"So you did." Phaedrus reached out a wing to place over him. "You acted from your heart and not your mind. That does not make it your fault."

"Shhh. Child." Phaedrus smiled sadly. "It isn't your fault, child."

"Cava--lier." Blood dripped from her mouth. "Cavalier, you must listen to me."

Phaedrus lay bleeding on the mountaintop; badly wounded, surrounded by broken ironclad bodies, but still very much alive.

The sounds of fighting had quieted. All was silent.

Ollie turned away from her.

"She's gone."

"Phaedrus is gone."

Ollie only sniffed.

"So... genie magic isn't just 'you wish, I interpret.' I do take your meaning into account, but that usually turns out really, really bad," Jinn explained, "because when people wish for things, they're wishing for things emotionally, not logically; or, at least, their logic is emotionally-driven. This means that what they're wishing for isn't what they're telling me to wish for, it's what they want; and what they won't is usually really, really bad."

"GET OUT!" Ollie screamed. "GET OUT OF HERE! You don't know anything about Phaedrus! You don't know anything about her, or what she's done, or... or... you don't know anything! You don't understand--you don't--" Her voice was lost as she collapsed on the floor and started sobbing into her paws.

"She isn't going to die because of the ironclads. She's going to die because of you!"

"By doing what? What are you going to do to fix this? You must be crazy if you think that whining about your STUPID decisions is somehow worse than KILLING PHAEDRUS!"

"I'm not the one who ran down the mountain to go find the ironclads! I'm not the one who had to get saved! I'm not the one finding strangers in caves!"
