    The guard led Wendy through the hallways, though she had no intention of actually meeting up with Nicolae. As they walked through an empty hall, Wendy spoke. "I'm really sorry about this." She said. "Hm?" Wendy grabbed the guard's head and smashed it against the wall, knocking him out cold.

    "Aryanna said I didn't have to go back. I don't want to go back, I can't go back..."

    "The Queen, the Qhoral Queen... she's horrible... she... she..." Janice's voice became panicked. "She took Trace, she was TRYING TO KILL ME." She grabbed her head and squeezed her eyes shut.

    "Don't..." She began to shake. Janice balled her fists.

    "No sir. Right away, sir." The guard ran off. A couple minutes later, he was at the gate. Wendy looked up. "So...?" "Says you're not his sister, but you can come on in."

    "I was--" Janice closed her eyes. "I--"

    "N--nothing. She just... saved me."

    "Vespyr showed them to me." She reached in to see if she could grab Scarlet.

    "The one on the right is Scarlet," Janice whispered. "She's really sleepy."

    "Can I go to him? Please?" Wendy asked. The guard yawned. "I'll go get him." He closed the door.

    She stopped by the tree, swinging around to the other side by a small hole. "Look down there," she whispered, "and be quiet!"

    "Follow me!" Janice started running over to a tree behind Sparrow's house.

    "Nicolae's your... father?" The guard asked. "Um... no! No, sorry, he's, uh... my... older... brother?" She shrank a little. "He's like my father, though."

    A grin broke over her face. "Wanna see the baby foxes?"

    "How's about we worry about getting to the store first and then see what I should wear?"

    "Oh! Right." Janice shrugged. "I don't know. I just kinda want to get out of this stuff..." she gestured at the clothing Vespyr had supplied Trace: brown, ugly drawstring sweater and trousers.
