  1. "You'd make a terrible butler."
  2. "In that case you're a kid. I've met plenty of people eons older than I'll ever be but still immature." Fadran leaned back. "That's how it works."
  3. "Omnipresent, maybe, but I don't think omniscient. I think that I can hide my presence from her well enough to avoid her direct attention, which is the only thing we'd really have to worry about." Trace frowned. "But... I can get where you're coming from. If she's using me as an inside spy..."
  4. "She's kind of omnipresent in all her servants: including me, though I don't think she knows that." Trace poked up one of her ears. "In most cases they're just impressions, not worded orders. Most yevon aren't capable of comprehending organized language."
  5. There's no telling how long he'll take. Alex clenched his fists. Do you have any methods of knocking him out real quick, preferably without alerting the others?
  6. "I already said I can't triangulate it; I can barely contrive a rough perimeter."
  7. "If you're still awake by the time I'm done," Wendy called, "then I'll buy myself some ice cream and make you watch me eat it!" She was grinning, then sat down and continued eating her nasty waitress food: she wished she had ice cream to eat. "She's not yours, is she?" Reyna asked. Wendy looked up. "Mine?" "Like..." Reyna awkwardly mimed childbirth in the most anatomically solicitous way a human being possibly could. "Oh, no! I'd've had to be... what, eight? Her age!" Wendy shook her head. "No, she isn't mine. I'm just taking care of her for now."
  8. "You don't act like a grown-up person." Fadran frowned. "So... what, do you get less mature as you go along?"
  9. Trace shrugged. "So... again, how do I best use this... thing?"
  10. "Plenty! I'll show you around." Katie pulled open the door. "And Ara! Katie!" Wendy stood up. "You two better be in bed before eight, you understand?"
  11. "If I've been around since the dawn of time, Cruz, then she's been around before time itself. You don't just take her out; not even Vespyr could do that, powerful though he is."
  12. "Well," Wendy pulled away, "I still have work to do today. I don't have night shift, so I'll be free after ten." She smiled at the two of them. "So go do your thing."
  13. "Well I could hear when she ordered the attack and I could hear when she ordered the retreat. I'm pretty sure that, tactically, knowing these things are pretty advantageous."
  14. "Okay. At least you're alright." Wendy squeezed her harder. "I'm glad you've made a friend."
  15. Trace chuckled. "In any case, I was hoping you'd be able to help me... figure this out."
  16. "Yay!" Leonie ran into the kitchen and pulled on an apron.
  17. "I can tell because she's uncharacteristically grumpy." Ayia muttered something like "if you wake me up I'm gonna be uncharacteristically grumpy," but it was really impossible to tell what she was saying.
  18. Fadran ran over and shook Ayia. "Hey! Ayia! I think your kid's..." he lowered his voice, "passing out."
  19. "You look really drained, kiddo. Maybe you aren't dying but you certainly aren't just tired."
  20. "No no no... kid..." Fadran placed a hand on her shoulder. "Ayia!" She muttered something unintelligible.
  21. "Being around since the dawn of time will do that to you."
