  3. "And that's good." Kris went a whole second before rushing to correct himself. "Taking care of him, I mean! Not... not the abandoned part."
  4. Kris shrugged. "Just because it's something you're supposed to do, or would do anyways, doesn't make it any less considerate."
  5. "I think I heard... from someone..." Kaeni began to weave around her words a tad carefully. "There's a gateway shrine down south that we can use. A lot of people arrived for training here from that way, I think."
  6. The city council had recently unveiled the brand-new rail trolley down the center of main street, running off of an entire rooftop garden of various technically-placed bushes and flowers to clatter along a pair of iron bars laid into the street. So far it had been remarkably successful despite the near daily breakdowns from various disturbances - but, after all, that was what the conductor was paid there to manage. Kris had actually been planning on taking a more orthodox means to the magniporter station, but figured that this massive group of depressed-looking children and teenagers could use a little trolley ride down a cobblestone street. They still wound up walking after it broke down two minutes in, but it was nice while it lasted. At the station they were stuck back in a long line of backed-up patrons and wealthy partygoers, as one of the cornerpots had to be replaced. The manager had apologized profusely to everyone for the inconvenience, but by the strain in his voice it sounded less like a mishap and more like neglect on some worker's part. Kris always had found it strange how a world so centered on constant and consistent care of so many diverse species of plant could be so negligent at times, but he supposed that was just the beauty of imperfection. While they waited, he glanced down at all his companions and asked, "So what even brought you to join such a mission anyways?"
  7. Well, there're two ways to look at this: Logically, a bunch of stars clustered around a common center of mass would probably be a lot closer to each other than they would be to the planet. In terms of parallax, the distance between each of the stars would be somewhat negligible. Or you could take some real-world examples and find out that our own closest neighboring star - Proxima Centauri - is a tri-star system whose bro Alpha Centauri is thirteen thousand AUs away from it. That is thirteen thousand times the radius of Earth's orbit. In this scenario, you might actually be surrounded by stars instead of the other way around.

  11. The problem with having a lot of suns is that the propablity of having eight equally-sized stars in perfect harmonious orbit of each other is about as slim as convincing Frustration that the imperial system is inferior to metric. Obviously you could say "the gods put them there" and call it a day, but if you wanted to be at all scientific then each of the stars would have different masses and different orbits, and ultimately would wind up gobbling each other up until just a couple remained. In terms of worldbuilding, I think having one sun and seven moons would work great. Very believable while still being quite fancy schmancy.
  12. What are you guys thinking in terms of roleplay?
  13. I have exactly one good poem

(It's in a sonnet format; that's what the little letter lads are for)

Waiting past the hourglass’ sifted flow - A
Upon a rug, I wait and tug away - B
    At a string, a thing I always know - A
Whenever I endeavor not to stay - B
It patters on, the tattered song of a - C
Tower’s box, the hours’ clocks chime out -D
In jubilee, from two to three, for they - C
Truly have a duly travel to talk about - D
But here again I wonder when I will - E
Hear them tremor, but then remember that - F
They lie awake and never mistake to fill - E
The emptiness, and see, lest it all fall flat - F
A comforting thing, the coming rings so deep - G
Enough so to not toss to and fro and sleep - G
