Movies that need sequels:
(Read: movies that I want sequels for):
- Tron: Legacy - This one was made as a sequel itself to show off the mind-boggling visual effects of 2010. It never fails to leave me with that wistful heartache feeling you get at the end of a movie that you just really don't want to be done with (like Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, which would have been included if the sequel wasn't due to release in just a few weeks). Imagine how cool it'd be to have another Tron movie with EVEN BETTER graphics! Though we probably wouldn't be able to fit in Jeff Bridges which would be unfortunate.
- The Lego Batman Movie - first of all, this film is one of the greatest of all time in the superhero film category; perhaps the greatest, depending on how you slice things. But Lego Batman's primary arc throughout the movie is coming to accept his weaknesses and work to overcome them as a person with narcissistic personality disorder, but I'd argue that a single night isn't enough to "cure" narcissism. I'd love to see a movie where he has to go to some sort of bat-therapy and fall into the same mistakes as before in a real struggle to overcome a very real mental disorder... and, of course, I'd just love to see another masterclass in animation, screenplay, comedy, and storytelling in theaters again.
- Inside Out - Probably half of Pixar's full movie roster at this point is in sequels and spinoffs from its most profitable franchises, but I will fight anyone who says that any of those are anything less than carefully-crafted marvels of the film industry (and yes - that includes Cars 2). Now as much as I'd love another Wall-E or Onward or really any of them other than The Good Dinosaur, the reason I picked Inside Out in particular here is because depression is a long-term thing. As a kid I just sort of assume that Riley was "cured" at the end of the movie, which of course is absolutely ridiculous. I want to see Pixar's take on the whole process because I'm sure it'd be remarkable.
- Studio Ghibli's Castle in the Sky - It's my favorite movie! Ever! EVER! Ring me up, Miyazaki, I've got this whole sequel planned out and everything...
