    Nameless was almost certain that that didn't work. In any case, there was no way that 16 Quarkbeasts would be able to eat all their connections in time, so he pulled out his Narrationblade.

    Well, that was what Mythos thought at least. Until they started killing people. Turns out that reforming withergeists is really really hard, nearly impossible. Butt smiled nervously. "Yeah. Totally that one. I definitely didn't make a credit card in your name."

    Unfortunately, Afterimage was dead. and every single one of the variants were withergeists. Butt Venture blinked. "Yeah, I totally didn't buy this with your credit card. It's made of plastic. Right."

    Mythos felt a brief ripping sensation, then lost all connection to Afterimage. Butt revived with a loud banging noise. Then he fed the Quarkbeast one of Thaidakar's platinum bars.

    Butt was surprised when the Quarkbeast starting glowing. So surprised that he accidentally spilled all one hundred and seventy-five of Thaidakar's gold bars onto the ground in front of the Quarkbeast.

    Butt was very thankful. So thankful that he fed the Quarkbeast three of Thaidakar's gold bars.

    AdoKho smiled. "Two can play at that game." He disappeared.

    The monster sprayed balefire indiscriminately, the illusions burning out of existence.

    The arm regenerated instantly, and AdoKho moved with blurring speed, smashing through Mythos' Shardplate and cutting him to bits.

    A stream of balefire hit him in the face. Butt pulled a gold bar he'd stolen from Thaidakar's personal vault and fed it to the Quarkbeast.

    AdoKho nodded. "Yes, we shall." he summoned his sharblade. Butt Venture handed the quarkbeast Thaidakar's pocket change.

    AdoKho shrugged. "I can't do that. I could not use them, but if I was going to lose, I would have no choice but to use the full extent of my powers. I have sworn oaths otherwise." Actually it is from WoT.

    "Well, I could agree to that. Not honestly though. I cannot seal away my other powers."

    The monster laughed. "I'm afraid I cannot agree to that."

    The glow in AdoKho's eyes pulsed. "Yes."

    AdoKho ripped his way back into existence. "You think you can beat me? I have sacrificed everything to have a chance at you." He summoned a Shardblade once again. "I will see you dead, no matter the consequence."

    AdoKho reformed, eyes burning with a deep red flame. "So, I'm going to have to kill you too. A pity. You seemed a nice enough man."

    "Justice does not expire." AdoKho stalked forward, shardblade forming in one hand, ball of fire in the other.

    "Not surprising, I suppose. It explains why you don't remember killing my father, at least."

    AdoKho shook his head. "No, it was before that too. Back when you were trying to be a 'hero'. Before you became a withergeist."

    The monster shook his head. "Of course not. You killed him before you lived at the lab."

    AdoKho glared at Mythos. "Of course you have a backstory. You lived before becoming relevant to TLT. And you killed my father."

    AdoKho blinked. "It wasn't on a page. It was during his backstory."

    AdoKho shook his head. "Why does everyone have to be someone else? Can't I just be myself?" His eyes burned. Balefire leapt from his fingertips, obliterating Mythos from existence.

    The monster reappeared in front of Mythos. "Is that the best you can do?" He laughed. "Since you killed my father, I have dedicated my every waking moment to killing you. I will not be defeated like that pathetic Spook."
