    Unintelligible coughed weakly, falling to hands and knees as he fought to stay conscious. I agree. Curiosity jerked, shocked awake by the pain of the attack but too exhausted to so much as whimper. She felt herself being ripped apart, Identity splintered, Connections breaking, soul dying. She struggled to stop it, but was too weak. the Plotblade dropped from her grasp, and her vision faded until all she could see was darkness, interposed by lines of light. She watched, helpless, as one by one they frayed and snapped. One by one her connections, all that held her in this thread, died. One by one, the darkness drew closer. Finally, there was only one thread left. She watched it, last shreds of hope dying as it frayed, unravelling till it was too thin to see and then- Curiosity screamed. The sound echoed across the now-silent battlefield, shattering the brief stillness that had settled on the plain. From her spot on the field, Whimsy suddenly became alert, spinning on Curiosity's prone form. Reasoning peeked out from behind her rock. Curiosity's eyes exploded with radiant light, reflected off that single thread, dimming the sun by comparison. Instead of breaking, that connection was growing. becoming more and more powerful, more and more real. Abruptly, it grew taught as if something had grabbed onto it. Curiosity struggled to sit up, a strength that was not her own washing away pain and exhaustion. As her vision cleared, she saw the thread trembling around her. The thread twisted. Then it ripped. Then it shattered. A shockwave exploded around Curiosity, sending spirit, narrator, and character alike flying in its wake. When the smoke cleared a figure stood at the epitome of the blast, broken splinters of reality around it, a hole into emptiness behind. The figure was almost recognizable as Subversion, save for the cracks that covered her entire form, pure prismatic light issuing from them. The figure looked down at Curiosity as the mostly-dead shard of a narrator collapsed back to the ground, breathing normally. Then it looked up. Around it, cracks continued spreading, the sound of Curiosity's scream replaced by the grinding noise of a breaking thread. The figure itself did not move, merely staring at the place where Feanor had vanished. Reasoning took a deep breath, sitting up from where she'd been tossed. "This-this is bad. Very bad."

    Curiosity cut through the last of the spirits attacking Platypus. "Quite the novel experience, actually. As far as I remember, this is the first time any piece of me has actually fought directly! We should do it more often." the Plotblade she carried glowed brightly for a moment, and Platypus found that he could move again. "Now, let's get Ro-oh, never mind. I'm sure you can... get him.... without me." With that, she slumped to the ground and fell unconscious from exhaustion. The rock flew straight through the spirits, although some tentacles from Arranis did disperse most of them a moment later. The one that was attacking Unintelligible remained, however, and his attempts to get it off were slowing more and more.

    Curiosity cut through the spirits facing her as she fought her way towards Platypus. "You know, playing a hero is actually quite fun!" Whimsy reflected on Platypus' words from where she sat in the grass of the field, holding an oddly-shaped rock. "Nah. I'm busy. Let him help himself."

    Curiosity ducks the Narrationblade, then pulls her Plotblade out and uses it to cut down a few spirits that try to get in Platypus's way. Unintelligible cursed some more, feeling an unnatural lethargy as the spirit continued draining his soul. "Can anyone help me? This storming thing's intangible!"

    Unintelligible cursed, fighting his way out of the pile of characters that he'd gotten buried under and struggling to shake off the spirit. Spotting Arranis, he waved in desperation "Hey, Arranis! I could use a hand! Can your sword make me resistant to spirits or something?" @Scars of Hathsin

    He collided midair with Unintelligible, who had leapt to save Ryss at the same time. The pair crashed into Ryss and the spirit and fell to the ground in a pile of limbs, wings, and crushed spirit pieces.

    "Harder than you think. And I'm more than 1/10 of myself, after an encounter with a Plotblade."

    Curiosity barely avoided being decapitated and dropped to the ground as Platypus cut the spirit in two. "You're no fun. The dagger's not actually Mordite. I just wanted to see what would happen if you stabbed a Narrator with a blade they thought was Mordite."

    Reasoning ducked behind a nearby rock and hoped people would stop looking at her so that she could teleport away. Unintelligible ran towards one of the spirits, wishing he had a sword.

    "I'm ready. Don't worry, I won't slow any of you down."

    At that moment, Curiosity stabbed Platypus in the arm with a blade that leaked shadows.

    "Yeah. Well, if you try not to trip me by accident, I'll make sure not to stab you by accident." Whimsy frowns at him. "Don't be like that. It's not like I was the one with the Mordite dagger."

    “That’s an oddly specific power for the Author or narrator who made you to give, but yeah. Totally possible.”

    “Yeah. You a Narrator?”
  16. NameIess
    Reasoning walked over. “Any type of magic can exist, if one or more Narrators decide to make it. Also, you can leave. Unless you’re a Narrator, or on a similar level of power to one. Then you’re stuck here.”

    “Standing behind you with a dagger, of course.” As Curiosity spoke, Platypus felt the cold bite of metal stabbing him through the heart.

    “Of course.” Curiosity seemed to be struggling to keep a straight face. “Why wouldn’t I?” “Sure. I think Unintelligible’s going on a quest to find new weapons, you could join him.”

    “Because it’s interesting of course! Soon, the plot will come to a head and all secrets will be revealed! Also, I think me and Whimsy got most of Subversion’s optimism in the split. Or maybe just not enough of her empathy. Hard to say.”

    Curiosity watches the wing-seekers, grinning widely. I wonder if Arranis has as much control as he thinks?

    “Yeah! Some mysterious cloaked guy stabbed him, and then he gave a prophecy and died.”

    “Something with Feanor, oh! and Shadow died. Also, stay away from that guy over there with the wings if you know what’s good for you. On second thought, how about you go ask him for some wings?”

    “I guess you being a side character at the moment insulated you from the effects of the Plotblade, huh?”

    “Oh. So it didn’t do anything?”
  25. NameIess
    “It’s the blade of Side Character. I nabbed it from Rirrom and he hasn’t said whether I can keep it, but I can still stab you in the meantime!”
