Taking Suggestions: What to call a group of spren?
Yolenlightweaver replied to Quantus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Pokémon was genius. One Pokémon is a Pokémon. Many Pokémon would be like, "Look at all those Pokémon!" I vote spren would be singular and plural, or for the sake of losing my own sanity, we should call them sprens. -
I think you are right on that. I don't have a WoB but I don't believe that it was implied that Adonalsium was omnipotent nor omniscient meaning he can't do everything. I don't think that necessarily means that it couldn't accomplish what it wanted if it wanted to.
-
Does it pop up in any other books or just these two?
-
This may have been talked about previously but I haven't seen it before. There have been a few comments about the purpose of Unity in terms of what Dalinar is doing and it has been spoken that it will have an effect on the Cosmere as a whole. I was just listening to Elantris so pardon me for lack of page number, but when Dilaf was about to kill Sarene in front of her father, Hrathen was having a bit of a crisis of faith. In his thoughts, the last thing he thinks about before he attacks and stops Dilaf is "unity." This could be just a coincidence, but you have Honors remnant thinking about unity and you have the focus of all faiths on Sel focused on unity of one kind or another to have their individual gods return. Is this a latent manifestation in all shards? Does this appear in Mistborn/Warbreaker and I just missed it?

Sorry this is taking a long time for it to make sense to me. So if Adolin had died before they had been transferred by the oathgate, and the sword didn't come, then Maya would have stayed in the PR as a sword forever? If that is the case, how does the sword get transferred to the CR after the owner dies like the captains relative? Thanks!
-
I understand. That being said, does that mean there are still a ton of shardblades just hidden or lost around? Also how did the deadeye get into the CR in the first place? The only reason maya is there is because she was teleported with the others through the oathgate.
-
Makes sense. Why would the captain need to lock up his relative if the sword doesn't exist in the PR?
-
That makes sense, I guess I am just confused since if the shardbearer dies, the shardblade appears beside them. How would it get from that point to the CR, does it just dissipate over time? Are the shardblades still around or have they all transferred to the CR?
-
At one point when traveling in shadesmar, it is shown that the ship captain's relative, who is a deadeye, is kept on the boat. This is done as to not leave the spren to wander back to its previous location. After the Recreance there were a lot more shardblades than are in use today. Is it possible that Odium's forces, or even the radiants, will try and get old shardblades by following deadeyes in the cognitive realm to where their blade is in the physical realm? Probably not the radiants since their spren don't like the dead blades, but Odium's forces went back for Eshonai's plate and blade so they may want more. Are we going to see some shardblade treasure hunting?

Unity, Adonalsium and the Cosmere Endgame
Yolenlightweaver replied to Mage_914's topic in Cosmere Discussion
From what I understand, there were 12 groups but the Levites portion went to the eldest who gave his portion to his two sons, making it 12 groups again. Very good point though, is there one shard who has chosen not to invest themselves (besides Odium) and is meaning to act as a sort of intermediary? Good thought and welcome to the shard! -
I love that quote! It will be interesting to see what other shards will become so driven by their intent and become another 'villian' after something happens to Odium. I saw someone pitch a theory on another thread that Cultivation will become the 'villian' later after being driven soley by her ideal. For example, Ati was a good guy who was bringing about Ruin at all costs.

I wonder how Hope acts on its own. Would it work well with Kelsier or would it be countering what he is doing. He is full of hope, but I don't know if it is for hope's sake or just revenge. would it make a difference?
-
I was just thinking about when this song was written. Cultivation and Honor were on Roshar before the humans and Odium supposedly came with them. At this time, is Cultivation/Honor their gods, or is it Fuzed/Unmade/Odium? Just a thought.

Main character of Rythm of War
Yolenlightweaver replied to Callsign Radiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
I had an epiphany after reading the Lirin section that Brandon has released. For some reason the Herdazian general who has lasted so long is being hidden. What if he becomes the main character. 1. He is a herdazian and Brandon loved writing Lopen, 2. I feel like he would be such a cool character. With the little we have seen he is obviously skilled at least at escaping and he held out with his people for a year so hes no shmuck, and he just seems fun. Is there any info that we have been given that contradicts this? Thanks! -
Based on the Stormlight Wiki, we currently know of 10 Shards. (Devotion, Dominion, Harmony (Preservation, Ruin), Odium, Cultivation, Honor, Endowment, Autonomy, and Ambition) When looking at this list, it strikes me how cruel the shards could be. The only ones that I feel like have an inkling of love or kindness could be Endowment which I feel is a paternal/maternal sort of compassion in my head. Cultivation could fall under that as well, but what we learn from Odium (as much as we can trust him) is that she just wants progression, she doesn't care what direction, good or bad. Devotion could also fall under a moral understanding of "good" or "loving" but again we don't know a large amount about how that shard interacts. I just want to get some thoughts from all of you since this has been sitting on my mind for some time. Some shots that I have been dwelling on include: Caution: I always thought that the "Shard that only wants to hide and survive" was fear or panic, but based on what we understand of Fortune, I doubt that plain fear or anticipation of the future or unknown would be uncommon for a shard. This is also dissuaded when Harmony shares the thought that he also doesn't know where the new Hemalurgic spike came from. If a duo-shard can feel feelings about the unknown, I am unsure if that could make up an entire shard. Compassion/Attachment: I feel like this would be the Shard of Love for lack of a better term. It would be the thing that motivates the shard to do good for its creations beyond just the desire to watch things grow and be destroyed. Again, no basis for this one just the fact I feel like it should/I want it to exist. Agony/Guilt/Regret: Recently (I don't remember where so if you do, please let me know or cite it) I was reading a thread that talked about a reddit interchange about Agony. Brandon reserved the right to give RAFO but the theory should be shared. I feel like this is a feeling our characters deal with A LOT in the books and it would be interesting to see how a shard like this reacted. Would it be stopped from doing anything since it is scared that it would make a mistake, is it pushing forward trying to make things better due to failures, or is it just dark and depressing since it feels bad since it doesn't have an underlying optimism. Hope/Optimisim: This is where the tie starts to get strenuous. If we go back to Caution, Hope is also something that would need to be reconsidered since Fortune plays a big hand in knowing vs. hoping. This would be the deific balance for the Agony/Guilt/Regret. I know people have thought about this and instead of just throwing words out I would love to hear thoughts for the last two, modifications to the ones posted, or just general corrections for things I have overlooked. Thanks!

Who Will Swear the 5th Ideal
Yolenlightweaver replied to Yolenlightweaver's topic in Stormlight Archive
The WOB says that as of WoR, Shallan is ahead of Kaladin, so who has more oaths now based on Lightweaver/Windrunner comparison at the end of Oathbringer? -
I have been wondering for awhile what development we will see in the characters that we have been following. We last see Kaladin trying to swear the 4th ideal, with others being at their various points. Will any of the characters we know now get to the point of their respective 5th ideal, or is that a goal that is only extremely rare. We know Skybreakers haven't had someone make that oath in a very long time and I am assuming that is the same for the other orders. What order will swear it first in the story, and do we know who that person is or will Brandon make it extremely rare in the plot?

I recall when Wit tells Dalinar that he is actually a tyrant, and in another age he would fight against him, but maybe a tyrant is what Roshar needs. I feel like that lens is how we must view Jasnah's actions. It is true that killing people shouldn't ever be considered good, but is it just? We can't say the guard would take care of it since she already showed that they weren't doing anything, and if the justice system is not solid should justice be taken into one's hands? If you say she shouldn't have done what she did, that is like saying that Vasher is also evil for killing the people he did with Nightblood. I think it is a different time and age with people trying to solve problems. It was probably harsher and more up front than it needed to be, but I don't think we can say she did wrong.
-
Please correct me if I am wrong but based on a couple boards, I have assumed that the Sibling was in charge of making Urithiru work. When he left things kind of fell apart. I fell like this would make a time difference from when Nohadon bonded with the Sibling, and when the Sibling withdrew. Beyond that, I really like this theory!
-
I love that example. They are all about freedom from oppression to an excessive level. Nale could technically be a stoneward in this case too!

Main character of Rythm of War
Yolenlightweaver replied to Callsign Radiant's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really think/hope it could be Rlain. We haven't seen much of him, but since he was one of Eshonai's soldiers, is it possible that it would be a POV Stoneward? I feel like that would be super cool to flush out information about the order, especially from a Singer's POV. -
I think this is really cool! Another one that might work against Truthwatcher I feel like would be Lightweaver, providing the dichotomy between truth and lies. I do think the orders have opposites, but I agree with the above that it might not necessarily be based on locations due to physical surges.

I thought she went into her coma since they said she wasn't ready or too young for the bond. I understood that spren could bounce back depending on their age/maturity. I feel like they would have harbored ill will towards the knights radiant as when the Desolations came, they had a ton that had gone into a coma when their radiant died in the previous Desolation. Fair point though!
