  1. It seems that way, but it's not the only possibility. He implied that the events of the Elantris sequels might be important for Mistborn Era 2: So maybe there will be some Sel/Scadrial interaction in Era 3? That would make it very well possible for the Ones Above to be Selish people. Their practices also thematically fit Dominion, so who knows. I agree that Era 4 Scadrians is more likely though; of all the people to set up for Era 4, of course it would logically be Scadrians.
  2. That doesn't contradict what I was trying to say so yeah, I agree. It's (like I said) kind of like an aesthetic taste. They like seeing things move in that direction (physically, sociogically, etc.), so it's comparable to a personal taste. I don't mean it in a literal way, but it's a way of thinking about it that made it easier to wrap my head around what Intents mean. It's like a very, very strong form of preference.
  3. He didn't approve of his actions, logically. However, I fail to see how that matters to the point I was making.
  4. As for the Autonomy debate, it's important to note that a Shard is always defined by what its vessel wants to see, not necessarily what it wants for itself. Preservation didn't want to survive, he wanted other things to survive and even sacrificed his own survival for the survival of others. So Autonomy wants other beings to be autonomous, so able to make their own decisions. We know that her avatars all have their own minds and opinions. She doesn't rule over them, but "manifests" them (how the heck she does that, who knows) and lets them make their own decisions. Of course there's this question why she interferes with other cultures so much, but that seems to be a case of utilitarism. After all, Preservation definitely allowed a lot of destruction to happen. He could never destroy things himself, but he is capable of planning or indirectly causing destruction for the sake of other's survival. That's how Ati was killed. So there's some wiggle room there. If Autonomy wants things to stay autonomous, she is capable of manipulating things so they stay that way. I'm pretty sure she has some limitations in doing that, though. I imagine a Shard's Intent as a kind of aesthetic taste. Like Preservation being just delighted by the Lord Ruler's capability to survive. Honor's "aesthetic taste" in that regard is the opposite of Autonomy's in the sense that Honor wants to see people act according to oaths/established rules, which would definitely lead to them not being autonomous at all. The heralds made their own decision when they left Taln. Bavadin would have loved seeing that happen.
  5. The wording of the question is very vague. Like, when is a Shard full? Wouldn't Endowment also be "non-full" because of the Splinters? But I take it you just mean beings that aren't Shards and still want to include Splinters like the Stormfather? It also depends on your definition "strongest", as in, "most Invested", "most powerful", "would win in a fight", a combination of them all? As for an answer to what you're probably asking, I could be wrong, but I feel like Susebron might be more powerful. He'd still lose a fight against the Lord Ruler for obvious reasons. Nightblood is probably highest in the ranking though.
  6. Oops, of course you are right. Sometimes the numerous cosmere-aware organizations just fly around in my head uncontrollably and I get them confused. It's an interesting theory for sure. I still think that Mraize has other ways of getting ahold of these things, considering he has a lot of them. I doubt Hoid has got him all of them so the Ghostbloods seem to be capable of a lot of risky worldhopping stuff. But it is a possibility!
  7. There are two little problems I have with that theory: Brandon has confirmed that Hoid and the Ghostbloods hate each other, so it's very unlikely they have a deal. It's also unlikely that Obrodai is First of the Sun, since the letter is written by Patji himself and he talks about Obrodai as "there" which is not "here", where Patji would be. Wouldn't a doll be very risky (as in, easy to catch)? I don't know how important it is for these letters to go unnoticed, but Hoid seems to be very scared of Odium, so he'd rather not want him to know he's writing to Frost etc. But this is certainly a possibility, assuming that the command would be simple enough for the doll.
  8. I think it's a lot to ask for a Shard to have a good reason for their actions. Every Shard is one single sentiment stretched into infinity. Preservation wanted to preserve humans because of that, Ruin wanted to destroy them, Endowment gives Breath for the same reason and Odium just loves to make people hate each other. He might have had good reasons for picking up the Shard way back, but as he is now - after 10,000 years of holding "God's own divine hatred" - I don't think we can expect him to act according to complex intentions anymore. That's not the way Shards work.
  9. What, I ... do not remember that scene. Well, it's a long book ... There's another tough scene in there though that I will never forget, in the first third of the book (don't know how spoiler sensitive people are on here, so I'll hide it nonetheless), when he That's one of the most impactful scenes I've read.
  10. On to a classic: Michael Kohlhaas by Heinrich von Kleist. I was hungry for more of a "challenging" read after devouring 6 Asimov books in a row. Honestly, I can't even imagine the pain it would take to translate Kleist's endlessly nested sentences (I'm reading the OV).
  11. David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust right now, continuing the tradition of the last few days. I recently wondered what my favorite album of the 70s might be. It made me revisit this because I thought it was a close contender, but now I'm actually quite positive it takes the cake.
  12. I am extremely happy about that one. It's honestly three games late, but great to finally have him. The first Smash DLC character I've been genuinely excited about. Can't wait to check him out and I'd love him to become a character I'll play frequently.
  13. I mean, it makes sense for the characters to make a bogeyman out of it, since they're the ones having trouble with it. That doesn't necessarily mean that Brandon would agree. Although I do think that he has since become way better in a nuanced portrayals like that, as seen with how the listeres are handled in Stormlight. It's a similar case, but way clearer. So I see where you're coming from.
  14. Only the physical release. The Kindle release is still in June.
  15. He hasn't:
  16. I'm slowly starting to believe they are using Fortune to guess the release date, and some Shard loves to mess it about because its Intent is Impatience (or, possibly, Annoyance).
  17. There is a discussion about the broadsheet page here. Brandon said about the supposed Parshendi: So that one's a red herring. As for the chronology of Mistborn and Stormlight: Yes, Era 2 Mistborn takes place right between the two 5 book arcs of Stormlight. So it is very well possible that the things happening in SA1-5 influence what's happening on Scadrial at the time. That said, there's also this thing worth mentioning: Before writing sequels to it, Brandon had Alloy of Law placed behind all of Stormlight. Trell was already mentioned in there, so his interference with Scadrial can't be dependent on whether the book takes place before or after Stormlight's back 5. Given that it's very unlikely that Rayse is gonna survive Stormlight (why spent 3+ million words with a story if you don't even want to solve its main problem?), it's just as unlikely that he is directly tied to Trell. I personally am convinced Trell is an avatar of Autonomy (yet not necessarily assisted/approved by Bavadin herself in his actions) and maybe backed by Odium due to their shared interest in having Harmony dealt with. Also, mind that as of Stormlight, the Fused, as spren, are probably tied to their system and will have problems leaving it. Although there seems to be a way around that. Who knows, maybe Trell has some help by one or two Unmade. That would explain Miles' death rattle.
  18. I like the first one. Don't care much for the others. They all don't really capture the feeling of the series very well though. I'm happy to have the anniversary editions. They have a sufficient amount of black/grey. To be perfectly honest, those are the only English language Mistborn covers I can deal with.
  19. Obrodai or not, Hoid definitely didn't try to contact the new avatar. Because if so, why would Patji feel the need to tell him she exists? The "one who cannot respond" has to be someone else. Although, sure, it's possible that they are/used to be located on Obrodai.
  20. That's very, very unlikely. Hoid worldhops via perpendicularities and Patji's eye is the only one in the system. He probably couldn't even go to the other worlds, let alone "return". I think it's very safe to say Obrodai is a world in a system we haven't seen yet.
  21. I don't even think that "we" has to refer to multiple avatars in this case. There isn't even one use of first person singular in the letter, so we don't know if Patji ever uses it. Maybe "we" is just him in some cases. Although It wouldn't be too shocking if there were multiple avatars on First of the Sun. But then, Patji would have to be the one most Invested in it, since it's been pretty clear that there's only one perpendicularity there and it's clearly his.
  22. Shadows for Silence is between Warbreaker and Stormlight.
  23. I hope he doesn't overdo it ... Stormlight books are already insanely long and take up a good part of his time. I'm not sure it's necessary to add novellas between every two books. I'd rather see that time spent on other Cosmere works. Considering word count, Stormlight is already far more than a third of the whole thing. Of course it's the right thing if this is what he's eager to do. Mostly looking forward to the Sixth of the Dusk sequel, since that would mean more (albeit probably very vague) information about sci-fi era cosmere.
  24. It's June here and September here. So I guess that's the answer: Kindle release date is June 19, physical version September 10 ... for reasons unknown.
