I'm a beginner as well, but from what I've seen there are three main strategies: 1. Craft your vocal melody (possibly by writing it out, or just by singing over your basic chords and seeing what sticks), and then write your lyrics according to the melody, giving you a structure for you lyrics 2. Writing your lyrics, and then writing a vocal melody for the lyrics you write 3. Deciding on a song title, theme or anything that the song is about, so you can write the music and vocal melody and structure your lyrics for the melody. (this is the strategy I prefer) When it comes to actually writing lyrics, take a look at a song you like, and study it's form, whether it's verse-bridge-chorus or verse-chorus-verse, and write your song in that format.

Brin laughed at the man's audacity as Gethren pulled a chair up to their table. "I didn't ask your name, mate, I asked who are you?" Brin responded.

Augur arrived, smiling, at the Ghostblood headquarters. He had his rough cloak under his arm, his "Drane" cloak. He hummed softly to himself, a classical tune from back on Scadrial. As he opened the door, Augur noticed a letter. "Why, that's unusual," he said to no one in particular. In the back of his mind, Drane whispered in suspicion. He opened it. My name is Cassandra Adama, it read. Augur skipped through the boring stuff. My deal is fairly simple: have the Ghostbloods use my shop for some of your supplies, and spread the word of its quality. In return, I will give you the names, descriptions, and abilities of every Metalborn within this city who visits my store. Augur liked that proposition. He always wanted a new metalmind. However, he couldn't possibly know what to do with the name of every Metalborn. He'd take this letter to the council, let them deal with it. He made a mental note to pay a visit to Ms Adama. Augur closed the door, and went into the Ghostblood base.

Brin could tell that Althea was annoyed, and he didn't care. He wasn't a prissy city boy, he was Captain of the sea. "I apologize…" Brin said unabashedly. He was comfortable with his bluntness. "Althea. Now I understand what the bloke was doing, but he came running from this van of sorts. I just want to clear up what it was. And if he came from this van, he could possibly have some... acquaintances. Meat chaouta, thanks mate." That last part was to a server at the restaurant. He was feeling snippy. It did turn out, after all this time, he was itching for an investigation. Did he... miss this? No. And yet, he felt exhilarated. It was a rare feeling, one he only got from the occasional raid. He was shocked at the fact that tedious investigation did it for him. Huh. @Sorana

"Look, mates," Brin started. "I just decided I'll be staying in Alleycity for little longer. I'm going to help hunt down that Dustbringer." Brin's drink arrived, and he took a long draw. He sighed, relaxed. "Alright, everyone, say what we know. Once we have all the information needed, we bring it to the Watch." Brin was experienced. As a Skybreaker, he was nothing more than a glorified detective. Others in his order would say that he's a glorified executioner, but Brin rejected that idea. "Let's start at the beginning- that carrier van, what was it for?"

Drane rolled his eyes when the newbie asked such... such newbie questions. He made a note to tail him. He wanted to keep up to date on the other members of the Ghostbloods. In the meantime, Drane headed back to base.

Drane stood in the corner of the room, hidden by shadows, and completely unnoticed. He wasn't even sure that Azrael knew he was there. He was filling his duraluminminds. Azrael had brought a new recruit. Drane kept silent, Soothing the awareness of the other occupants in the room. His curiosity was spiked- he wanted to see what the kid could handle.

I really only meant the term "ground troops" to be a reference point- "foot soldiers" would be more accurate. I think you're onto something, however, I think that the Willshapers are the fortress defense- here's a quote from the official summary: "In war, they might be sent to a town to fortify it against an oncoming invasion." As well, the summaries detail that the Stonewards and Windrunners are the main attackers, and the combat engineers would probably be the Elsecallers. As for the Dustbringers, they "tend to act as the artillery." However, they are used as sappers, according to the article. Here's the link: https://www.brandonsanderson.com/the-ten-orders-of-knights-radiant/

Each order of Radiants stands individually, but during desolations, they also stand together. I want to figure out the relationships between each order. For instance, according to the official summary, Stonewards are "renowned as [The Radiant's] finest soldiers (a title that, on occasion, the Windrunners dispute)." This quote, along with other clues, gives me a theory as to the relationship between Windrunners and Stonewards (and Bondsmiths). You see, the Bondsmiths are basically the "Kings" of the Radiants, (ironically, Jezrien, Herald of Kings, is not the Herald of the Bondsmiths). The Stonewards are the "foot soldiers" of the Knights Radiant- the groung troops. So as I see it, the Windrunners are the "King's guard" to the Stonewards "foot soldiers", if that makes sense. I propose that other Orders of Radiants must have had similar relationships, though I can't surmise what. Thoughts, anybody?

Maybe someone will Ascend as Honor AND Odium, similar to Preservation and Ruin being merged into Harmony?
-
I think Brandon might pull something similar to what he pulled in Mistborn- we might EXPECT Dalinar to Ascend as Honor, but in classic Sanderson fashion, it might not be the person you'd expect to Ascend. Plus, I don't think any Ascension will be happening until the second arc- and since Jasnah's book is at least PLANNED to be last, I predict that she'll ascend as Honor. We already see her as the ruler of Alethkar, so why can't she go a step further and become a god?
-
I'm going to be honest, I don't know who most of these people are, but Neeson would be amazing as Straff. Taln: Idris Elba. Again, pulling from the Marvel god book, but- c'mon you have to admit he'd be amazing. Szeth: Elijah Wood, maybe? Wayne: Neil Patrick Harris, maybe?

Honestly, I dare you. Does anyone have cast ideas for Kelsier? I feel like he should be easy to cast but no one comes to mind who would fit the role.

Who Will Swear the 5th Ideal
BringerOfLight replied to Yolenlightweaver's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think it can be assumed that our main characters will eventually get to the 5th Ideal. After all, they are leaders in their respective orders. (except Szeth but he's the only good guy in his order) -
In this thread, we cast the Cosmere! Think of actors and actresses to play your favorite Cosmere characters. Hoid- Tom Hiddleston. Tom Hiddleston has his hawkish features and incredible acting that would fit very well with the character. There's something low-key about him. (low-key? Loki? get it?) I also saw someone suggest Alan Tudyk, that would also be amazing. Elend Venture- Taron Egerton. I don't know why, but my brain casts this guy as Elend when I read Mistborn. Lightsong the Bold- I think, going with the theme from earlier, Chris Hemsworth would play him amazingly. We already have seen him as one nonchalant god, can't we see him as another? Not to mention, he fits the physical description well. Spook- Me. I wanna play Spook. I fit the physical description, fight me.

Brin smiled widely. "Alright, mates! The Cremling's Claw it is! We should discuss what to do next over drinks." Brin made his way down to the Cremling's Claw, chattering as he went. It occurred to him that the pansies in Alleycity wouldn't approve of someone his age drinking, but storms, it's not like they would care. Make enough noise and have enough swagger that they'll ignore his age- that's typically what people do. Brin reached into his jacket, brought out his flute, and played a sweet sprinkling of notes. He put it back in his jacket as they arrived at the Cremling's Claw, where he took a table in the open front of the bar. "Horneater lager, please!" Brin called. "Mates, siddown here!" @Sorana @kenod @I think I am here.
