Don't know if this counts as artwork
HarmonicMonk replied to HarmonicMonk's topic in Stormlight Archive
Wow, that would actually be amazing but not impossible, as most english alphabet letters are transcriptable. And you should try it anyway! I do have a horrible, like, terrorific handwritting in our real writing system, but that didn't stop me from learning these nice symbols hahahah Oh, btw I just realised I misspelled "Words of Radiance" and wrote "Wors of Radiance" instead- 3 replies

I actually don't know if this counts as fanart or something, but here are some attempts at the women's script from the vorin nations. Of course it's just transcripted English, but I thought this would be cool. Also, thanks to @Harakeke for the amazing work at deciphering this beautiful script. Has anyone else been practising this writing system and found anything that looks cool? or IDK, just give feedback and share something related if you want!

Has anybody done a Stormlight themed Bedroom?
HarmonicMonk replied to Shallan&Pattern's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't know what your relationship with art is, but some cryptic spren painting on the wall's would be cool. Also, some humming as white noise could make them more realistic. Hmmmm, yeah, that would do. Although having a "no mating!" voice message being played every time you enter the room with someone would seal the deal for me. Hahahaha, now, seriously, you'd want to have some storm shutters on your window just in case! -
Hahahaha, yeah @PhoenixWaffle and @Todesengel, those are some of the best. I can't wait to replicate this thread with Lightsong's knowledge on the Warbreaker topic. Unless someone has already made it.

Hi, and be welcomed into the Shard!!! It's good that you waited until having read a few books, so you hopefully won't get any spoilers. Tell us, which Brandon books have you already read?
-
Ok, spoilers for Defending Elysium and Skyward ahead, but I really need to know why no one is addressing this:
-
Well @teaspoon, that's a normal reaction to this whole metallic flavored baked goods thing. But as you would expect, cookie pretty much means what it would in any other context (unless you are British, then we mean biscuits)
-
Those are amazing hahahaha, I think the first one is from Alloy of Law, but the second one I'm not sure. Here are two more:

Hi and welcome. If you enjoyed the SA then you will most likely have a feast with the Mistborn books, check them out if you want more Sanderson in your life. Would you like to tell us which order of the knights radiant you feel like you'd be in? (Oh, and a friendly piece of advice, don't accept cookies from strangers in these forums, as those often come flavours yet unknown to you)

Oh, those are nice. Another one that really got me was

So, 17th shard, I've been here for a while and these forums seem to have everything Brandon related. Lots of theories, a library of WoB, amazing artwork, Role playing degenerated into a baking goods war... But there is something that deserves a place, a special place, and if there isn't one yet this is my convocation for it's creation. We need to collect those amazingly bright pieces of wisdom that Wayne is always spitting around and bring them together. So first, I'll start with this particular saying of his that has given me great insight into the true meaning of life:
-
Nice theory you got there, but I think this WoB you based it on may be no more than an error he committed. In any case, it's worth thinking about it. And if I remember it correctly, in WoK prime, the powers of the different radiant orders were much more like "elemental" ones, so the windrunners would be literally controlling wind, the skybreakera would control lightning and so on. So there is a chance Brandon still wanted some of that to get into Roshar, so I'll admit it looks like we could get some of it, but in a more "smart original way of using the surges we already know", instead of just changing the rules at higher oaths. I haven't read Oathbringer yet, so I'll most likely stay away from this topic before it gets to spoily haha haha, but hope more people give their opinions on this

Well, in the end it's kind of sad that this never got replied... Maybe he/she didn't exist after all. To bad you were summoned needlessly, but I appreciate the effort you put there...

Hi, and I can't say anything without first stating that: wow, that's a nice and big piece of Sel theory you got there. I'd advice you to make shorter posts next time, developing trough the different parts of your analysis as people interact with your original, introductory post; instead of sharing this big chunk of texts that almost scared me away. But I'll admit now, it was worth it. I'd agree that, for Sel's civilisation to go sci-fi level they'll most likely have to deal with all issues concerning geographical blocking of their magic, and now that you mention it, a unified language might be the solution. But as Brandon said, it will most likely have something to do with the mooncepter and the Dor, maybe a reconstruction of the shards eventually? Who knows? (Although I haven't read secret history yet, but I kind of understand that there are a group of selish worldhopers) But getting to the point: yeah, I'd say there is a hierarchical relationship between the languages, the geography and the magic. Because of how the AON RAO is broken and fixed trough the Elantris plot, I might even suspect that the order of events is: Dor imbued investiture in the geography, which created the magic system, in which some tongues based their grammar and writing systems. I mean, there is nothing in the AON RAO that implies the sound "rao", the meaning was taken from what the symbol did, but it's pronunciation came from a preexisting spoken language that maybe lacked a writing system, adopting these instead. Therefore, creating a unifying language might not affect in any way the magic systems, just as people missprounouncing AON RII until it starts sounding as REI wouldn't change its effects nor symbol. (THESE IS JUST ESPECULATION BASED ON WHAT WE KNOW. NOT THAT ANYONE IS EVER SAID TO HAVE MISPRONOUNCED AON RII) But those are just my thought on the subject, hope more people get to this topic!

Well hi, and welcome to the shard. Appart from cremposting, what other activities are you interested in? Hahahaha Nah, now seriously, would you like to tell us which Sanderson books you've read?

Hey, hello. As a Harmonic monk I must add our world view to this debate. It being that maybe it's not a question of existence in a real world, but a question of "I" in existence. Because maybe the world around you isn't an illusion, but your perception of yourself as an individual, as a being separate from nature, the planet, the universe, reality, is an illusion instead. Where does this thing we refer to as "I" or "me" or "myself" start and where are it's limits? Aren't we, as consciousness, the auto perceived product of a highly developed biological organ, which itself is a combination of neural cells and electrochemical signals, which again is the product of evolution? Cells and signals made of the same fundamental particles and interactions as everything else, therefore, any idea of separation is just an illusion meant to keep us, as a species alive? Or is there a soul, a part of our self that doesn't belong here, that lacks a physical, biological, material existence? Even if that was the case, wouldn't all beings possess one, wouldn't there be a big river of life and spiritual energy in which we, as individual droplets of water, think we are separate from the rest? I actually don't know. That may not even be Harmonies doctrine, I don't know (mistborn triology spoilers ahead) But I guess it's important to think about it.

Heeeey! Welcome into the shard! What @go_go_gragdet said is completely true (specially about the cookies), I'm sorry no one replied rapidly. And as he has already made you some nice questions for us to know you, I'll just wish you a nice experience trough the forums! Also, for my taste, The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages were a lot better than The Final Empire, although that's just personal opinion. And about Wax and Wayne series, yeah, I must agree that the rhythm for those books feels perfect, as I'm half way through Alloy of Law right now!

Uhhh, que hermoso Bariloche, yo del gran Buenos Aires, zona oeste. And by the way, Dalinar is an amazing character, even as I haven't yet read Oathbringer I think he is one of the more complex and well designed characters by Brandon
-
Be welcomed into the shard! Would you mind sharing something about yourself such as what books of Sanderson you have read? Oh, and a piece of advice for you as a newcomer, beware of receiving cookies from strangers, I wouldn't recommend it.
-
Yeah, well... As you are new here (hehe, says someone like me who had created an account just a few days back) I'd advice you to don't accept any further cookies from strangers from now on... Just a friendly piece of advice. Oh, and I was forgetting, welcome to the forums!!! Would you mind telling what allomantic power (atium excluded) you would choose to have in real life? You can choose just one metal!
-
Be welcomed into the forums @Luinedhel, I'm also argentinian so it's good to know there are a few of us Brandon's readers by these lands. I'll agree with the post above by recommending not to accept cookies from strangers, as they come in flavors yet unknonw to some. Would you like to tell us which books of the cosmere you have read and who is your favourite character?
-
Hi, welcome and just be patient about it, thats is a RAFO (read and find out).... You're pretty deep into WoR already. So either you'll find out in a moment or you'll have to wait for another book. Or maybe, it doesn't ever happen because of Kaladin's never ending mistrust of clear eyes. Just keep reading, we ain't here to spoil anything to you. And you should definitely read The Emperor's Soul (Elantris world sharing short story) I guarantee that you'll enjoy it as a little break from SA epic series. Also, would you mind sharing with the forums what is your favourite investiture (magic system) as of now? (Also, pro tip: don't accept cookies from strangers)
-
Welcome to the forums Socket, it's nice to know younger audiences also enjoy Sanderson' writings! Would you mind telling us your favourite character?

Omg, somehow I accepted the cookie... But I don't want to get into the Alleyverse yet! May the hemalurgic things take a while to obligate me into it? -
