Jenny let the blades tumble out of her hand and onto the ground. She replaced her glove and squeezed her eyes shut for a moment. Maybe everyone had been right. She only brought death. At the very least, she was probably making Ed feel awful. ”I’m so sorry.”

Jenny removed a glove, reached down, and pulled up a fistful of grass. As soon as the blades were severed, they withered rapidly. She held her hand out for Ed to inspect the grass. ”Did I kill these too?” Something in her knew that she had.

“You don’t need to apologize. This is my fault, not yours.” Jenny tilted Ed’s face back up. At leave her gloves let her still interact with him somewhat safely. ”Ok?”

Jenny pulled back. ”Please don’t do that. For now, at least.” She looked downcast saying that. Would that be their last kiss?

“You almost died a few hours ago, and you’ve been feeling awful ever since.” Jenny pulled her gloves on a little tighter. “I can’t risk you.”

“If I killed something by touching it, then, well…” Jenny didn’t finish her sentence, terrified of the implication. Was just being near her enough to hurt something? When they arrived, she’d need to make sure to give everyone else a wide berth.

Jenny had forgotten that she’d been supporting him. ”Sorry!” She rifled through her bag and pulled out a pair of fluffy gloves. She’d brought them in case her hands got cold while they were camping at night. Jenny put them on, then went back to Ed and tried to help him back up. Fortunately, she was wearing long sleeves and pants, so her only exposed skin was her face.

Jenny thought for a moment, trying to figure out what Ed meant. Then, her eyes widened and she quickly pulled her hand out of his, backing away a few steps. Was she why he had been feeling so bad? Why he’d almost died?

“Are you ok? Is the pain getting worse?” Ed had trouble talking when he was hurting. She’d need to make sure that Jace healed him again tomorrow. Jenny squeezed his hand gently in an attempt to comfort him.

“It’s all browned and crunchy, though. Is it a really weird type of grass?” Jenny reached down and plucked a blade of grass. To her, it seemed unchanged. To others, it appeared to instantly wither, looking like it had been long dead. She spun it around in her fingers for a moment, then flicked it away. ”They probably just need to water it more.”

Ed was saying he was worried but also smiling, which was a bit confusing. Jenny hadn’t considered that Ashton could be a siren. Ashton would hate her in particular if that was the case. You can’t ignore this forever. Jenny glanced down, and noticed something odd. ”Huh. I wonder why the grass is dead.”

Ed wasn’t wrong. Lucid and Ashton had met only about half an hour ago. Looking back, Jenny realized that she had been very lucky that Ed was so amazing. She’d fallen for him hard and fast. It would’ve been easy for him to hurt her. He did hurt you, Jenny. Do you really know this boy? You claim you love Edgar, but you’ve only known him for a week. Jenny ignored the voice as well as she could, shifting so that she supported more of Ed’s weight as they walked. ”We should keep an eye on them.”

Jenny followed the others out, supporting Ed as well as she could. Hopefully he could manage to walk without making his poor state too noticeable; it could come off as suspicious. Noticing Lucid and Ashton holding hands, she whispered to him. ”They’re somehow moving even faster than we did.”

“Ed?” Jenny tapped him on the shoulder. He really was engrossed in his work. She wished that she could understand what he was doing. ”We’re going to that diner now.”

“Yep!” Jenny was still rather confused by Jace and Terrance’s interaction. Had Jace been threatening to kill Terrance if he didn’t eat? It was understandable that Terrance had reacted so aggressively. Even if you didn’t have severe trust issues like he did, you probably wouldn’t react positively, or even civilly, to someone who held a knife to your throat like that. She offered to hand to Ed to help him stand up. @Weaver of Lies

Jenny looked up to see that Jace was holding his dagger to Terrance’s throat and Terrance was holding his weapon to Jace’s chest. What the heck had happened for everything to somehow escalate this quickly? ”Guys?!” @RoyalBeeMage

“Do you wanna go get some food?” Jenny couldn’t tell if he was mad at her or not for bothering him. Hopefully he wasn’t.

“I’m hungry!” Jenny’s stomach growled. Being maybe-dead didn’t feel like it impacted her appetite, at least. Ed had said he was hungry earlier, but didn’t seem to notice what Jace had said. She elbowed him. ”Do you wanna go get some food?”

Jenny pulled out her ruby to see if there were any dead things nearby she could reanimate. When she saw its glow, her heart sank again. She’d rendered it useless now. She took out Sword and started tossing it in the air instead, practicing making it spin while she waited for Ed to finish whatever he was doing.

Hmm. Jenny tried squinting at the pile of gears and unfocusing her eyes a bit to see if that could help her figure out what it was. She didn’t want to interrupt Ed again by asking what he was making. It wasn’t particularly easy to hold herself back from that.

Jenny grabbed Timothy, then thought at Gift. Do you know what Ed’s making? She didn’t have any idea what his project was, but she probably just wasn’t smart enough with that stuff to understand. It looked very geary.

Ashton didn’t seem to be very talkative. Jenny didn’t blame her for not wanting to share too much about herself with strangers. She decided not to press further for personal details. ”Please let me know if you have any questions about demigod stuff.” Jenny made her best attempt at a reassuring smile, then looked over at Ed, trying to see what he was making. @Weaver of Lies @Wierdo
