  1. Nicolae shrugged. "I'm not thinkin' we has the authority to do that."
  2. "Ah, who a-sayin' it's a knock, miss?" Nicolae smiled mischievously. "Perhaps they've gotten past the guards an' are now tryna knock down the door."
  3. Nicolae raised an eyebrow. "Thinkin' that's what they've locked us down for, miss?" @Condensation
  4. Maverick flipped to the next page in his book. It was getting rather exciting. Usually, he could figure out most of a mystery novel's plot before it ended, but this one had thrown him for a loop. Instinctively, he reached into his pocket to finger with his handkerchief. When he realized it wasn't there, he paled, panicking slightly. Where... Mav patted his pocket, turning it inside out, before remembering that he had handed it over to the Raveness. Stars. That handkerchief was the only thing he had left of his brother! He bit his lip, glancing over at the Raveness who was using the cloth to wipe herself down. He desperately wanted it back, but... he couldn't just go up and ask her!
  5. A relieved, "Thank you," came from one of the guards. He and his companion then awkwardly found a way to carry Darrin to his cell where he was thrown in with little regard for how his body hit the ground.
  6. "Hey, hey, easy there," Darrin protested. "I'm the one who slipped through your defenses and got close enough to kill the king, I think I deserve a little respect!" He paused. "Then again, I'm also stupid enough to get caught, so- OH, oh, oh! Haha, maybe I wanted to get caught. Dammit, that would have been perfect! Go back, I want to go back so I can tell your beefy superior that-" A hand was clamped over his mouth. "Stars, will you shut up?" Darrin continued to talk, muffled, beneath the hand. "Well, I could, but whether or not I will is doubtful. After all, if it annoys you, then-" The second guard turned. "General Praetorium, permission to knock this man out, please?" @The Ward's Guard
  7. Darrin took the slap with grace and smiled, though bruises were beginning to form on his face from being punched by Jasper earlier. "Yeah, alright, you have a nice night too, sir."
  8. Darrin grimaced at the pain. "Yes, please do. If I'm going to be tortured, I'd much rather have the professional do it. This whole impromptu interrogation is not first rate by any means and I don't want to do anything half-rate if you catch my drift."
  9. Rose trembled. Her cloak was wrapped tightly around her, its hood drawn over her face. In the shadows, she heard whispers. Memories - of her mother, of her brother, her aunt and uncle, the strange extended family she'd met in Castle Celeste - and things that would come to be, stirred in her broken mind. Jahora would coming back for her. There would be no bounty for them at the house. And something about that red dress she'd seen in her dream. Though her eyes were open, staring sightlessly forward, she saw nothing in the real world. Her body was in the alleyway, but her mind resided in the Void, floating along with the waves of time. Such a state was painful quite painful; the separation of cognitive and physical caused an ache in her head that she was incapable of turning away from. All in all, between her trembling, her muttering, and her hunched over position by the wall, it wasn't hard to understand why Darrin and Riva had thought her to be insane. In fact, as Rose sat, she could overhear voices from outside the alleyway. Drunk. Crazy. Poor wretch. Urchin. Had she been more lucid, she might have run at them in anger. But all she could do was sit and shake and cry, waiting for something to bring her out of her misery.
  10. When you're tired of aiming your arrows
Still you never hit the mark, oh
Even in your rains and shadows
Still we're never going to part
    Come on baby
Don't let it break your heart

I really needed this song today. Made me break a little bit. :)

  11. With a scoff, Heather folded her arms. Her facial expression - aimed at Pheo - was an accusing one. "Okay, will someone please tell me what happened between you two? Sta- Mom seems super freaked out by you, I don't get it." "Freaked out?" Ember echoed timidly. She got up from the floor and spared a glance at her departing master. "Yeah. Aren't you two supposed to be this perfectly happy little couple?" "Ooooh," cooed a wide-eyed Sophie.
  12. "Oh, WOW!" Sophie exclaimed. "Can you show me? Not right now of course, maybe, like, when the Witherlord is dead though. That would be amazing." “Yes. Chosen to bond with Master Star.” A deep red blush spread across Star's cheeks. "Ember, you can't just... oh, bother." "What? Is it not true? He is Fated to be yours, yes?" "Well... I..." Star bit her lip, looking down at her feet. "I'm sorry, girls, right now, I... just can't." She turned around and left, mumbling a, "Have fun with Pheonix," as she did so. The Destroyer appeared utterly confused, wrinkling her brow. Though she knew she was missing a massive amount of context, she had absolutely no idea what. She eyed Heather for assistance and the girl shook her head sharply. "Have I done something wrong?" Ember asked nervously.
  13. Darrin made a show of pretending he was deep in thought. "No, I suppose I don't. But... oh dear. I could scream any name under torture and you would have no idea if I was telling you the truth. Was it, perhaps, the Raveness herself, bored with the current king and longing for new management? Or it might have been Robin, the King's Lady who defected. A servant who decided they were sick and tired with being mistreated. Or..." Darrin grinned darkly. "The king himself. Wondering just how well his lackeys would respond when he was shot."
  14. "What'cha lookin' at me like that for? It's not as if I can escape from this tiny little room. I just don't like being tied up, I'm sure you can understand that."
  15. Darrin shook himself and stood, the ropes that had bound him - which he had sneakily untied - falling at his feet. "I thought the Raveness was in charge of torturing criminals," he said, folding his arms. "You don't have near as much presence as she does."
  16. Darrin was unfazed. "Well, you won't kill me until you know who hired me, so I think I'm pretty safe."
