  1. You didnt put up a link to the new message. The link changes with each message since the previous one is destroyed
  2. hmmm...while similar in this respect, i say they differ in too many others. For example, lashings only slightly resemble some mistborn powers but not in exactly the same ways (i.e. the gravity shift could be the same as pulling yourself towards an anchor, but there was no metal involved when it happened, and mistborns couldnt make things stick together) plus there was no metal swallowing required, as kaladin didn't need to. So, like i said, while this "drawing in" aspect is similar, i'm gonna have to go with the conservative answer and say no.
  3. bandersnatch drool that
  4. Uhh...got a link to it?
  5. in addition to this, it should be noted that lerasium (the metal that turned elend into a mistborn) apparently has other properties than making someone mistborn. That's apparently not its powers and just a side effect.
  6. Heh. i tried "xkcd" but that didnt work, so then i was just like "huh. guess its some stick figure comic i dont know of!"

    Redshift?

@happyman and Timemaster: You two are, apparently, more well versed in physics than i (ive only take up to a 200-level course) and timemaster's explanation goes a bit over my head in all, but not in so far that I can't understand him some. So i put out this question: In regards to refraction, yes or no, would it indeed scatter light like a prism? *--Off topic--* so this is off topic as well, but i thought i would post it here for the physics-minded types. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Dunno if its true or not (likely is since its nothing too terribly crazy) http://www.mycoted.com/There_are_many_correct_ways_to_answer_a_test_question
  8. I'd say capitalized. I think it looks better. But then again, i'm in the same boat where i think most things should. (my lazy typing and not hitting the shift key as much as possible excluded from "most things" naturally)
  9. Just a few easy steps to remember, and wilderness survival has never been so easy!
  10. Just a thought, but with the upcoming release of the mistborn short novel, and the possibility of future novels that has been stated before, is saying "mistborn trilogy" really the best way to go about this? Series-wide info would cover these novels as well, i would assume. Just sayin'

    Redshift?

So you did. I apparently missed that.

    Redshift?

This is... not accurate. From here we get a list of colors and their corresponding wavelengths. Let's say we we wanted to go from yellow to green. We'll make our emitted wavelength 572nm and our observed 568nm. That's a very slight difference, but still noticable. z = (568nm - 572nm)/(572nm) = -0.007 From z = v/c, we get that the relative velocity would have to be about 4,690,000 mph. 5,000 mph isn't doing squat. actually, i looked it up and realized my fault. It's KM/Miles per SECOND not HOUR. It's been about 10 years since my college phsyics courses, so naturally my memory of such things can be a bit rusty. However, a new though occurs! As we all know (hopefully), the speed of light is constant only in a vaccum. As it hits new mediums it speeds up and slows down. I'm willing to bet that if we slow time, we also slow the emitted light because its going to take longer to get places. As such, when exiting/entering the medium of the time bubble, it's going to cause the usual refraction. When light moves through different mediums, and as its speed changes, it would actually get refracted similar to light passing through a prism. So thinking about this, i'm actually gonna have to change my vote to a "no" on redshift, and instead flip over to saying that its going to refract light like looking into a crystal. What says everyone? Edit: i wonder what the angle of refraction would be on a time-dilation bubble?

    Redshift?

I assume you mean KM/h, right? Psh. Nope. When you go 5,000 KM total, ever, you instantly get a permanent redshift. (yes )

    Redshift?

Observable relativistic redshifts (for the doppler effect) kick in around 3,000 MPH (5,000 KM or so). Edit: And, actually, that is the point where it would turn yellow to green (or orange, direction pending)

  16. IIRC, the shards twist their users over time to conform to their ideals. I.E. ruin and preservation, Ati and Leras weren't embodiments of those ideals until after they took up the shards. Again, that's if i remember correctly (i could be mistaken) Also, obviously, someone isn't limited to only one shard, as evidence by sazed.
  17. and may you have twice the number, me cully. You mean like reading excuses on TWG? I know chaos set up a temporary forum for it while TWG is down, if that's what you're talking about. I can dig up the link if that's what you want.
  18. Honestly, i dont see why we shouldnt allow non-brandon RPing. I mean, sure, it's a brandon fansite, but what if a portion of the community wants to play some specific type of RP? Why make them go to some other place to do so, when they're all already here? For example, what if someone wanted to get some play-by-post D&D or GURPS goin on with others in this specific community? Why should we make them go elsewhere to do it, when they're all already here, and wanting to play it because they're here with this specific community? Know what i'm sayin'? It just seems like it would come off kinda asinine and elitist to disallow people having off-topic fun.
  19. Sup, yo. How's it hangin'? Yeah, it's certainly a database thing. Before it was put into maintenance mode it was throwing some database error.
  20. pffft. Chaos doesnt age. Chaos is a concept, therefore not permitted to have a numerical value associated with its being. Concepts are also not allowed human rights. [/prejudice] also: happy belated birthday, yo
  21. It was quite I personally dare anyone to contradict that. Its clearly the best use of the phrase.
