  1. It was awesome when we finally learned that humans weren’t just the real voidbringers, but also the real axehounds.
  2. I thought of something cool. When Brandon Sanderson has finished all of the Cosmere works (pray that he lives long enough!) we will be able to give our grandkids a copy of Mistborn or whatever, and know that we are giving them not just a book, but an entire universe that they will be able to read for several years, and if they like part of the Cosmere, they'll probably like all of it. Imagine reading a book, loving it, and then realize that it is part of a series of series connected to other series. As a fast reader who can be a bit picky about what I read, and who therefore struggles to find books as fast as I can read them, this is my dream. I have part of that dream since Brandon has quite a few books out, but when I imagine reading one book and then being told, "You liked it? You miss it already? Okay. Then here's THE COSMERE." Amazing.
  3. What are your wishes for the remaining Stormlight Archive books? Here are some of mine: 1. For Hoid and Jasnah to either break up or have a child. Their relationship feels weird and wrong. Let it end, or if it must continue, at least give us something as interesting as a Hoidling. 2. MOroden! Sorry. More Oroden! I love the way Brandon writes family members, neither making them appendages of the main characters nor writing their relationships perfunctorily. Oroden! 3. For that most oath-keeping man, Lirin, interact with Honor in some vital way. If he bonds an honorspren accidentally, ascends to Honor, or reads the honorspren the riot act for not being honorable enough, I'll be pleased. Lots of Lirin, with Lirin actually doing something important with Honor instead of just randomly happening to be honorable to a fault in a world where Honor is god, that is my #1 wish. Cmon. Don't tell me he isn't significantly connected to Honor's intent. 4. More Cultivation. I assume we will be seeing more of Cultivation. It makes no sense for us not to. 5. A firsthand view of Braize. 7. Hoid's flute. 8. Rock. So what do you want in the next 6 Stormlight books?
  4. I've read the three Skyward novels, and now I want to read the novellas, but the later novellas may be available to me before the first. Does it matter what order I read them in?
  5. I thought it was cool when Hoid demonstrated that his magical inability to eat meat doesn't extend to cannibalism. So philosophically profound.
  6. Also, how annoyed would some people be if Lirin ended up being the hero and Dalinar the villain? Personally, I like Lirin, but I know a lot of people don't. If we had to root for him against a poor tragic Dalinar, some people might find that hard to swallow. I, though, like Lirin so much I'm going to be annoyed if he doesn't become a much more major character. I want him to accidentally bond an Honorspren, struggle with the concept of protecting people while maintaining his pacifism, and clash with Dalinar who is desperate for every Windrunner to fight, and for Kaladin to get drawn into the conflict. Or for Lirin to cure the Heralds by bullheadedly going his own way while everyone else is looking in the wrong places for treatments, or for him to repeatedly reject a spren's attempts to get him to bond and then somehow save the world by ascending to Honor or by doing something else entirely, or for him to be twisted by incredible circumstances into murdering someone and then driven by guilt to run away or to go mad, or for Lirin to end up screaming at the Honorspren that they aren't honorable enough and the Honorspren to have no answer to that, or.... There are just so many cool things that could happen with Lirin. I really want Brandon to make him a main character, or at least a very major character. It will be such a waste if he doesn't. Rant over.
  7. I'd like to think that science is just one aspect of Honor-vation, the aspect that was most relevant to Navani, and maybe the aspect that the Sibling got. I think of science as being more about investigation than cultivation. There's surely a lot more to cultivation, anyway. But who knows? Maybe Ruin-Preservation could have been several things but ended up as Harmony, and maybe there are several things Honor-Cultivation could be but it will be Science.
  8. I have a theory: Two people will become the vessels of Odium, Cultivation and Honor, with Honor divided between the two of them. For instance, Dalinar might ascend to Odium and half of Honor, becoming an Odium-heavy shard of War. Someone else would ascend to Cultivation and the other half of Honor. Maybe Lirin would be Honor-vation, as he’s got Edgedancer vibes but is honorable to a fault. Each would be an active shard, unlike Harmony, especially War. War might be even more motivated to take over the cosmere than Rayse was, because of the Intent of the new shard. Cultiv-honor (can anyone come up with a real name?) would have the potential to be a very “good” Shard, depending on who the vessel is and how the two shards combine. I am only raising this as a possibility. I wouldn’t bet on it happening.
  9. I thought Leras told Kelsier in Secret History that Why didn't any of the people who wielded Preservation (except the last one) ascend to Preservation?
  10. You need a significant connection to a Shard to become a vessel of that Shard, right? Does that mean that you would need connection to all Shards to become a vessel of Adonalsium? Or would you need connection to Adonalsium somehow? Something else? This might limit who could ascend to Adonalsium quite severely, depending on the answer to my next question. In order to have a connection to a Shard, do you simply need to act in line with that Shards intent, or do you need to connect with it on some other level. For instance, could someone from Roshar be really devoted on Roshar, then travel to Sel and ascend to Devotion (assuming anyone can ascend to Devotion), or would you have to be really devoted on Sel and connect with Devotion's investiture there before you could ascend? If you need to be on the same planet as the Shard, which I think you would, then only worldhoppers could conceivably ascend to Adonalsium. And what worldhoppers have become solidly Invested from Shards on multiple worlds? As far as I recall, we only know of one: Hoid. Hoid has access to Surgebinding, Awakening, and Allomancy, and possibly other Invested arts. Does this have something to do with Hoid's goal? Is Hoid trying to ascend to Adonalsium? This seems out of character for Hoid, who has never shown interest in ruling others, but perhaps he has motivations we don't know about. Whether Hoid is trying to ascend to Adonalsium or not, he may end up being the only person who can, and I suspect that when it is both necessary and possible, he will do so. Hoid will become Adonalsium. What do you think? Do you need connection to all Shards to become Adonalsium? If so, what kind of connection? Does this suggest anything about Hoid?
  11. Which actors would you like to play which Cosmere characters? Non-Cosmere Sanderson characters too, if you want.
  12. Thanks, everyone. Robin Hatter, I listened to Sabriel on your recommendation, and I liked it. I have the sequel and a Riyria book on hold at the library.
  13. Could you people recommend some books for someone who likes Brandon Sanderson? I'm mostly looking for adult books (as opposed to YA and younger), though I don't want graphic love scenes, and I insist on having some sympathetic characters. Fantasy is good, though non-fantasy could be good too. Any suggestions?
  14. If I want to read more Brandon Sanderson books, could I read summaries of the early Wheel of Time books and jump in to Brandon Sanderson's WoT books?
  15. Why Ookla? What does it mean?
  16. Why are there two of you named Ookla?
  17. Is it a coincidence that on Sel there is an Aon called Ati, like the vessel of Ruin Ati? Has Brandon answered this?
  18. Well, that would be one explanation for Hoid’s immortality, though I bet his predates his feruchemy. I want to see Hoid burn Rosharan godmetals and their alloys, and I want to see him use them as metalminds.
  19. Cool! What evidence do we have for that?
  20. Tglassy, I could see Kelsier becoming Adonalsium, except I don't think he's really interested in power per se, and because I think Brandon will give us a happy ending and I don't think that would qualify. Imagine a three-person fight, with Taravangian, Sazed, and a third Vessel, with Hoid as a bystander. Imagine the three have accrued more shards until they wield all the shards. Taravangian kills Sazed and the third Vessel, and is about to claim the shards he wants to shape his Intent and give him more power. Realizing what is about to happen, Hoid picks up the fallen Shards, ascends, and using their combined strength, slays Odium. I guess that doesn't quite work, because we still don't have a reason Hoid would then pick up Odium. Maybe if all three Vessels died, Hoid might be forced to pick up all the Shards to keep the worlds from dying without Shards and Investiture to keep them alive. Or maybe Hoid would pick up Odium in my original scenario just to keep it from getting into trouble by itself.
  21. Let's talk about some of Hoid's stats. First, in the Invested Arts. Hoid is a Mistborn, has a lot of Biochromatic breath (not sure how much after the end of Rhythm of War), and a Knight Radiant. Does he have Invested abilities from any other worlds? Does Hoid have access to Invested Arts from more worlds than anyone else in the Cosmere? What does it mean that Hoid has access to so many Invested arts? In a sense, it might make him the closest thing to Adonalsium in existence, since he has Investiture from so many Shards, whereas each Shard is wildly skewed by it's de-contectualization from the rest of Adonalsium. Not saying that makes Hoid the most powerful being in the Cosmere. That would be someone with more total Investiture. What could Hoid do using allomancy, surgebinding, and breaths at the same time. I know he's kind of limited because he can't hurt people, but there must be some impressive possibilities. Second, Hoid is the second oldest person in the Cosmere that we've met. If my understanding is correct, that includes the original vessels that we've met. Of course, he could just happen to be two years older than the oldest vessel we've met. But what if his immortality predates the shattering? He could have been ancient even when Adonalsium was still alive.
  22. What do you think Hoid's goal is? Brandon offered a hint, "To make that which once was." Do you think he regrets supporting the shattering, and wants to re-make Adonalsium? Do you think he wants to keep Adonalsium from re-forming? Or something else?
  23. Proof: That's why he's so chipper; he hasn't been scarred by hard years. Theory: Hoid is Adonalsium.
