  1. The Ghostbloods are an interstellar organization. Hence they must have branches on different worlds. That leads to an obvious question. Who is a member? And are they operating under local names? In the relevant time frames we have seen the worlds of Roshar, Scadrial and Nalthis. Now I must admit I have a pet theory (Scadrial)
  2. That raises a point. Are we indeed talking about Stoneshaping? Or was Venli actually only special in that she made the stones act out the memories, but the act of getting the memories would be possible to anybody who got the right bead?
  3. Hardly. Rock is ultimately a freeloader. I am sorry, but I have to put it that bluntly. He recognizes the need to fight Odium. He is faced with an extinction level event. Yet he lets others do the fighting.
  4. I stand by it. Kaladin will find true solace in the branches of Cultivation.
  5. To put it bluntly, why are we supposed to rejoice at the preservation of a backwards monarchy promoting superstitions that keep people from using a unique ability that could improve their lives? Why support people who make money from tolls at everybody's expense? Why are we supposed to like the idea, that thousands of zombies with a rudimentary mind left just doing their jobs are betrayed by their own country?
  6. I suppose people are running kind of retirement hostels. Poor seniors go there, are cared for the few months and years they have left in exchange for their Breath.
  7. Well, what I was trying to actually say is that it seems kind of silly to me to blame Moash to a ridiculous degree for something most characters would need to be blamed for. I cannot, for example, get why people love Zahel. That guy straight up murdered his wife and advocated censorship. And he did know what he was doing unlike Dalinar. But a man who killed two people who were combatants gets visceral hate. I cannot repeat it often enough. Elhokar died during a battle he had been swinging his blade in. If you wish for a perfect character in the whole Stormlight Archive, the only candidate I could come up with would be Ivory.
  8. Cultivation is a friend of Roshar, because she has to. She resides there. No other Shard is. Harmony and Hoid are forming a coalition against Odium, not for Roshar. They are trying to pull in other Shards. They are perfectly willing to fight Odium to way you control an epidemic in veterinary medicine. You deprive it of its hosts I am sorry to formulate it that way, but I am afraid this shows a fundamental flaw in understanding the aims of Hoid and the Shards.
  9. Because Teft was, maybe still is, Bridge 4 and cannot be blamed for leading them to a sell out, like Kaladin. Moash knows loyalty. But is Moash on the evil side? Now, you may argue that it is led by the evil god. But it is also the side that is fighting against slavery, that had gotten lobotomized collectively and whose home was stolen by traitorous refugees. We will have to live with Moash being a murderer and a freedom fighter and a traitor to some degree. Just as the Stormlight Archive cannot be reduced to a story of good versus evil, you cannot do that to Moash either.
  10. 12 is divisible by 4, 3 and 2. Given that Aethers are the most universal powers possible and that Brandon probably does not want a lot of people running around with half a dozen Aethers I think he will still split them into incompatible groups and likely arrive at 4 groups. If this is to be one of those surprisingly densely populated Cosmere worlds, you'll need an Arcane source of food. You need to split the Aether of Night. It is inconsistent and overpowered.
  11. Vin needs to have a pragmatic side and she is a killer.
  12. Did it ever have one? If not, how did people get to Ashyn in the first place? If so, where are the Ashynites?
  13. That is demonstrably wrong. In fact we have very good evidence that the basics of morality is biologic. Morally enraged monkeys
  14. Two immortal worldhoppers at the same time on opposite sides of a conflict? How many of them are they and who hired them? If they were the only ones. Unless both sides had pretty good Futuresight or access to Fortune, that is unlikely. If that is not your assumption, you need a breeding population.
  15. If we are thinking about the time of The Stormlight Archive absolutely. But they remain valuable later and it cannot be their novelty. Hence, why? What does an Aviar do, that some Mistings could not do? Amberite, on the other hand, is almost Shard Plate.
  16. Well, isn't that an objection you would have to make against every leader who chooses to surrender? He is. But then do those who want to fight ask everybody else what they think about them putting everybody else in danger? In a very limited sense even Lirin had a point. Did Dalinar ask the Alethi whether they are comfortable with betting their fate on a single champion?
  17. The Ghostbloods know Aethers and have access to live Aethers. I am afraid that conclusion is pretty much inevitable since Oathbringer. Yes, it is theoretically possible that they bought that piece of Amberite in a dead state from a middle man. But then it would really require a pretty big implausibility for that piece to turn up in a cellar of a house in the middle of an extremely provincial place on Roshar. So why are we told that Mraize has no Aether? I am afraid we need to rule out rank. He has an Aviar and a Seon. That leaves an intriguing possibility. He has no Amberite Aether because he is carrying an incompatible Aether. I cannot help myself but think that for an organisation so active as worldhoppers Verdant and Corpates would be extremely valuable. So valuable that they would leave Amberite for specialised paramilitaries among their ranks.
  18. Since Oathbringer at least Amberite is canonical. Aviars have advantages of other Cosmere Arcane Arts. no dependence on location no exotic fuel available to everybody potentially unlimited abilities An Aether, however, seems even better. It does not need to be fed; in fact, they feed you in some cases. It cannot get sick. It can be hidden. I know Brandon likes birds. But why are they in so high a demand in the Cosmere? Aethers can grant you at least a form of immortality. You can teleport. Why don't people get Aethers and Aviars remain a useful, but minor form of Arcane Powers?
  19. Possible, but a bit, well, wouldn't you think that in the middle of an apocalyptic war Mraize has better things to do than to handle a show piece? One of the things Mraize would do however, would be to train against users of Amberite. It would be strange for an organization that can use Amberite not to use it.
  20. The extinction of the species would also be permanent.
  21. We can do so, but then we admit that this boils down to personal preference. That may be correct, but then there is nothing to debate here. That is radically incomplete. If we go by results, then Taravangian secured survival of the species. He got a binding promise out of a Shard. Everybody is out for blood. Do I need to dig out Hoid's words on letting Roshar burn to stop Odium again? In fact Moash is the only one who can claim justice. His grandparents are dead. That much is factually true. Everybody else has to claim necessity as their justification. He is. That is what his trip to the valley got him. He was the most intelligent man on Roshar. That robs him (and us) the excuse of doubt. If he chose not to act, it would mean that he'd chose the consequences. It is not out of his hands. No, I don't. At best he is fooling himself, at worst he is lying. But he is factually right. Alethkar is better of with Elhokar dead. His own uncle and sister thought so. In fact, he thought so himself. There is very little room for doubt. As soon as I know that, to ask any further means denying that objective good and evil exist. The act itself is good. That cannot depend on whether the one performing it believes so or is honest about his motivations.
  22. When? He killed his first three in a comparatively short time and the results are quite different. It looks like Honor and Cultivation took a different defensive approach and it took Odium longer to overcome it. Very well, but why did he win in the first place? Devotion and Dominion versus Odium was 2:1. Why did he win? There is something fundamental we do not know.
  23. Well, Honor was not an isolated case. He was fourth in a sequence. Does it really make sense to look at the victim, rather than the killer?
  24. The Shentis play a role in te story. Nope, a gratitious alien species, name-dropped and never mentioned again. Could you explain?
  25. But an allomantic link does not transfer force. It creates force.
