  1. @Gaz

    No problem.

I did say "likely", so no confirmation (much like with the Honorblade), but we do have some evidence to look at for him having an Awakened sword. In retrospect the "you're on the right track" might have been about Nightblood being on Roshar, but I still think there's a fair case to be made for the theory. There is Brandon's "you might be onto something...".

There's also a theory floating around (though I can't find it) that lays out some in-text evidence about the appearance of Wit's sword in WoK that lead to all these questions.

Oh I'm not saying it's impossible that Hoid held nightblood at some point, just that there really isn't evidence for it. Brandon could have easily just been amused that people were looking for Nightblood in SA.

Perhaps someone should ask Brandon if Vasher had nightblood when he arrived on Roshar. If he lost it prior to coming to Roshar then Hoid would be the likliest candidate for taking it. As he's one of the few people powerful enough to take anything from Vasher and then planethop to Roshar. If Vasher DID have Nighblood when he arrived then he really could have lost it in any number of ways.

  2. The vast majority of it is not in the books. There's hints and tidbits in the books, but the majority of things come from interviews/signing Q&As, which makes it really frustrating to get into for anyone who hasn't been keeping up with it from the start.

On the bright side, those little tidbits aren't needed for enjoying the books, so it doesn't matter too much.

On the down side, people on this forum and others include those who have been keeping up with everything Brandon has ever said, and base all of their conversations on that information, making it nearly incomprehensible for people who have not (Barring good people like Kurkistan providing links for everything, but even then you have no way of knowing until someone else does link it).

Ah but that glorious moment when you finally become a sharder and realize that Brandon's books are even more spectacular than you thought. Awespren abound.

  3. I'd be surprised if you did know about Allomantic bronze, actually, Ranstang. A lot of this info is squirreled away in weird places such that you either had to be active when it came out or have someone else link to it for you if you're ever to know of it. That's why I'm a linkaholic. :)

That's also why he has so much rep, he links to old discussions :P

  4. The real question to be is that what happens when an Honorblade and Nightblood fight. Personally I am inclined to believe that it would be a close fight and more determined by the skill of the wielder than anything.

Thats why I am hoping that Zahel gets an Honorblade to defeat Szeth

Nightblood is far more heavily invested than a Shardblade, Brandon says this. Nightblood will definitely come out on top, but I don't think it will be auto-death for the spren. Probably the shardblade would be "dispersed" for a while, knocking the spren out of the physicl realm, and being distinctly unpleasant.

  5. wasent there a wob that someone sufficently skilled in bronze might be able to sense feruchemy, or did I dream that up?

You got to it before I did. Yeah I know I read SOMEWHERE that someone good enough with bronze and who knew what they were looking for could sense things other than allomancy. Im betting it works with all forms of investiture. It worked with the WoA after all, which is just pure investiture, not actually allomancy.

I wonder if chromium and nicrosil would work on people holding stormlight....

  6. Ok, forgive me if this has already been mentioned. I know we already assume that Hoid has Breath but did anyone else catch, when he talked to Kaladin in prison, he said that tuning became much easier now that he has "Perfect pitch" wasn't that the second heightening? meaning he has > 200 Breaths... second question, how does he keep said breaths from warping the colors around himself noticeably? I sort of remember there was a method for that, but I can't remember what it was.

Also I am wondering if the powder Shallan saw Hoid put in his drink (one of the flashbacks) was metal shavings... I would guess he started soothing her and her father.

Vasher is also able to hide the effects of his breathes. There is still a lot about that magic system that we don't know.

  7. Q: Could Sazed take down Rayse since he has two shards?

A: Rayse is VERY scared of Sazed. However, given Sazed is a coposite of two diametrically opposed shards, he finds it very difficult to act.

I'm glad he finally answered this one. I asked more or less the same question and he just said "Harmony is two shards in one". Which told me exactly nothing.

So this is +1 to Sazed being the most powerful thing in the Cosmere? That's how I'm taking it.

    *Edit*

If I were Sazed, I'd look at Odium and say: "I'm going to preserve the people you seek to kill by ruining you. Let's get it on."

  8. Question regarding your spoilers

I've seen evidence for the 200 breaths, the Honorblade, Allomancy, and the Lerasium bead. What points to him having Feruchemy, Compounding, and an awakened sword? As far as I know, Nightblood was the only awakened sword, and it's almost confirmed that he wasn't in possession of him. Did I miss something in my readings? I've read pretty much every published Sanderson work except for the Rithmatist and the Alcatraz series.

    Thanks!

WOB is that he uses feruchemy to figure out where he needs to be to intercept important events. There's no evidence that he has an awakened sword though, or that he ever held Nightlbood, particularly given that Vasher is present on Roshar.

  9. Do you think they would really put it out around midnight, though?

In my experience no. They put them out around 9-10am. So unless they put it out the day before then you aren't likely to find it at midnight. Of course different stores could run on different schedules. Personally I'm ordering it for the Nook. They seem to have the quickest release times.

  10. So I'll be ordering a digital copy of this. Because I like to read in random places and it's a lot easier to do that on a tablet than it is to carry around a 60lb book. But I also want it as early as possible. Does anyone know what the delivery times are for the various e-vendors? I've waited until midday on the day of release for a book from Amazon to come available before. So what are people's experiences? B&N? Or some other vendor?

  11. Haha there are so many different opinions. The only thing everyone really agrees on is that Sanderson is awesome. Personally I've read everything he's *published* (and one ot two things he hasn't) with the exception of Alkatraz and the Infinity Blade stuff. It's all good, but certain works will appeal to different people.
My advice is this: If you've read The Name of the Wind why in god's name was Wise Man's Fear not at the top of your list? You should already be reading it. :P The Wheel of Time could conceivably take you years to finish if you're a very slow reader. It's worth it, especially since WoK is your favorite book, but that's your decision
As for Sanderson. Read it all, I doubt you'll regret any of it.

  12. My first thought was that they might look something like Aoens, not exactly Aoens because those are unique to that particular area of Sel, but perhaps a similar structure.

Although after you mentioned impossible shapes, like perhaps an Escher drawing that does seem more likely to me.

  13. Wasn't prof always present when they used the Harmsway? He could have just been gifting them while it was being used.

Your point with the Jacket is valid. I assume Prof would have no way of knowing when one of them takes off their jacket during a mission. Also Megan didn't seem to have a problem using hers. So in that case it does seem likely that the prof bonded his power to the jacket rather than the person.

  14. 1) I would have no specific powers myself. However when any Epic uses their powers against me I steal their entire power set and they become human. I have their powers until they die. So I have to keep them locked up safe.

    2) My weakness would correlate to the weakness of which ever Epic's powers I am using at that moment.

    3) Name would either be: Reaver, Harvester or Downfall.

    4) I would go into a psychotic rage when I go through drive-throughs and they get my order wrong. I would not be able to stop until every person in the building had been annihilated.

    5) Costume: Normal clothes, except my underwear would be outside of my pants.

  15. This would be an interesting question to get WoB on. So far every Epic we've seen has a power that's pretty useful in some way. I wonder if there are any Epics with totally useless or harmful powers? Like someone who can make themselves older, but not young again. Or an Epic who's power is spontaneous self-death.

The reason I ask is that it would give us some insight into the nature of Calamity. If every Epic has a power that is somehow useful then we could guess that there is some intelligence behind Calamity. If not then it could be a natural phenomenon that is randomly mutating people.

  16. Fortuity was a pre-cog. This implies to me that it was "always on", so I tend to agree that he was stormed. Also I think this explains why he was particularly sadistic. He was being exposed to the "taint" (yup, I'm coining a Wheel of Time term for it. Deal with it) basically 24/7.

  17. I'd probably burn the world.
Oh sure. I'd start out with good intentions. I'd start out as Superman, the guardian of all goody-ness. Then I'd get fed up and start laying down ultimatums. Then the government would still screw everything up so I would take over and run the world by myself. I would eventually become an inbittered ruthless tyrant. And finally I would give up and burn the whole thing down.

In short...I'd be the Lord Ruler.
