"I need a minute," Freedom said. sliding off the stool. She walked over to the wall, pressed her forehead against it, and closed her eyes. Then she tapped some age. Not so much that she was a child who couldn't walk, but to around Warmer's age. And thought it all through. She lessened the amount slowly, taking in the perspectives, until finally she started storing instead. At a certain point she came to the same conclusion every time, and she returned to normal. Don't do anything you'll regret. But what would she regret more? Taking this opportunity or losing it? Freedom turned around, making up her mind. Lusk was looking at the bar. She walked over and placed a handful of chrysts down. "Payment for you not to give him anything else to drink. If he offers you more, I'll give you more," she told the bartender. She looked at Lusk. Opened her mouth, then shut it again. The right words failed to come. everything sounded too sappy or fake in her head. Instead she just nodded. If he were anywhere near as smart as he acted, he'd know what it meant.

I left my notes for a class at school for over the weekend. I have a test in that class on Thursday. School for tomorrow was cancelled. I have none of my handwritten notes to study from. (Yes, the teacher does upload class notes online, so I'm not completely dead, but it's a pain to access) -

Freedom groaned inwardly. Of course it had to be a Ghostblood. And a Council Member at that. Couldn't the Cosmere throw someone more her level at her for once? "Great, you've done stuff with your life. You've accomplished things and been important, Mr. Uwik. Congratulations. You're one special snowflake," she said. She wasn't going to change her attitude just because she knew who she was actually talking to - besides, he was somewhat drunk. "You're right that that sentiment is garbage. In life it really is that some people get no chances, while others get more than their fair share even when they don't deserve it." She shrugged. "I'm thirteen, for the record, but age shouldn't dictate a person's right to be anything. Many people accomplish less in their whole life than some have by five. It's just a number. A number that people have assigned meaning to. If I think life hates me, I have every right to my opinion even if that were the case. I don't pout at life, I just don't think my calling is to be found from doing anything important." Freedom knew she had come off as too defensive the moment she shut her mouth. Nothing to do about it now.

"We probably should have a chancellor and system of decorum around here before we start trying to pass laws," Pry muttered, not really caring that no one would hear her.

“I know how to fight,” she said. “A bit of everything.” It wasn’t a lie. No Acute went untrained. She just wasn’t all that great at it. “Most people only get one chance to prove themselves. Mine’s already passed.” Freedom ran her fingers through her hair, brand on her forehead visible for a moment before strands fell back into place, blocking it from sight. “If creating a good legacy for future Atium Ferrings is what you want, then know it’s probably already out of reach. This Scadrian teenager had her turn in a spotlight and she didn’t like it.” Freedom sighed. Why do you want to go? Precious had asked her that before she left home. I want to...I don’t know. She had told her. She still didn’t know. It had just felt like what she needed to do. But now that she was there, she was even more lost. Now there was someone who could help and she was pushing them away. “Who even are you?” she said, unsure if she was asking herself or the other Ferring.

She watched Lena go, leaving her alone with the man at that end of the bar. Freedom raised an eyebrow. "And what would you teach me to do? Get drunk and stay that way?" Irritating him probably wasn't the best idea, but as she wasn't sure how else to react. Here was a stranger whose name she didn't know, who told her to drink underage, saying he should teach her. Agreeing sounded like a pretty dumb idea.

Freedom gave him a glare. A girl had every right to enjoy being young while she actually was, even if she could be older. Besides, she had tried to drink once and didn't understand the allure. All it did was taste nasty, make you feel funny, cost more, and give you bad breath. Nothing good. She was perfectly fine without.

Lena and the man had struck up a conversation, leaving Freedom free to think about what he'd asked her. Have you ever thought about... using it for combat? No. She never had. Investiture and fighting had always been seperate in her education. But what if they weren't mutually exclusive? What if they could work hand in hand? She thought about the peaceful Synod village Pry had shown her. Trouble never followed Feruchemy there because there was no violence connected to it. If she mixed the two, it might stop that for herself as well. You idiot. Freedom thought. Trouble's already followed you. What else do you call last year? Memories began to rise up, but she forced them back down. She wouldn't have a panic attack here. Freedom took a sip of water.
