Cassie waved back, grinning, still right next to him since she’d been right next to Leona.

What is that acronym?

“Oh, hey,” Cassie said lightly. “She’s right here.” She nodded at Leona and Flid.

It was more than a relief when all at once Gati’s power soared back to her, Negating everyone around her in a wave. She held them far from her and Truth easily now, letting them move a fraction of the way toward her, not even close to a full step, before undoing it, and keeping them in a loop of that like bubbles popping. The goddess let out a quiet laugh at the rush of power, though she quickly stifled it. As good as it felt to be normal again, this wasn’t the right environment to be laughing in. He managed to carry Truth outside of the tent; they were spotted by one man, but Gati simply reversed his movements until he had turned a corner and was out of their view. He pushed back the soldier’s thoughts even further, to leave him just slightly confused, and used that time to get Truth out of the camp and behind a tree. Anderson would recover on his own. The best thing for both of them would be Negation finding the other deities and warning them of Entropy’s betrayal as quickly as possible. He began running through the forest, not bothering with stealth. Getting to the clearing mattered more than merely getting away. Gati dashed through dancing shadows, under leaves lapping at the wind, and by boulders with lichen creeping down their cracks. A smacking sound thumped through the air, then another. He would have ignored it, if it weren’t for the voice that then spoke. Tion. Negation relaxed and followed the other god.

“All right,” Cassie said carefully, watching the other girl as she started walking toward Leona and Flid. Finally, she faced them, shook off the uneasiness Shana had infused her with, and said brightly, “So, how do you think I do this Shardplate thing?”

Didn’t I already say this? Maybe she missed it. Or maybe I wasn’t clear. Yeah, it was probably my fault. “The point where I have the powers a Willshaper of the Fifth Ideal would have?”

Cassie looked down uncomprehendingly at Shana’s hands holding her own as she begged, waiting for her to finish. When she did, Cassie started speaking slowly, trying to calm her down. “I don’t know specifically where Joy is at this very moment, but I’m sure she’s around here. I promise you, Shana, she’s all right. The Nightwatcher told me I wouldn’t be able to see spren. It wasn’t the Voidbringers, it was a Radiant spren - a Bondsmith spren, no less.” She smiled gently at Shana. “I’m still a Knight Radiant. Maybe I didn’t have to say all the Immortal Words before I got to this point, but hey, I’m a Willshaper! We’re supposed to do different things and explore in new directions anyway.”

Deteca stared at the paper tiredly, blinking to ward away the demon of sleep that really wanted to drag her down with it. It was late at night, a day after the attack on the city and the subsequent defeat of Ajax and his forces. She was in her room in TUBA’s main base, grateful that the defenses had held up during the mob of Investiture and insanity. The desk before her was strewn with papers, ranging from lists she didn’t want to look at, communications she didn’t want to answer, and notes she’d written that she didn’t want to think about. Should she see a doctor about her strange shock symptoms? How many TUBAists could be helping with the reconstruction efforts at once, and where? Where were her parents? No, that wasn’t right. She knew where they were. What she didn’t know was how she was going to get them back. Deteca groaned softly and pressed her palms into her face. She couldn’t think straight enough for this. Letting her hands fall back to the table, she braced herself against it, seeing that dead young girl in her mind’s eye just after her moment of victory. For a second, her face flickered, becoming not Zaphiris after all but another young girl, limp and empty, crumpled on the ground. Whole, not bleeding, but just as dead. She tried to refocus on her work, latching onto a new piece of paper. Surprise pricked her through her exhaustion when its contents registered, because this was something she actually did want to deal with. Scrounging under a damage report to grab her phone, she thumbed buttons until she got to the correct place. Deteca entered Zokora’s number and saved it as a contact, almost smiling. Slightly more invigorated, she started to make progress again on that infinite war of paperwork.

“What?” Cassie took a step backward. “What do you mean, crystal? Joy is fine. I’m fine. I haven’t been hurt.” She frowned at Shana. “I don’t get it. What’s wrong?” Why are you so panicked?

Deteca accepted the paper with a tentative smile. It wasn’t often that a Ghostblood who knew who she was gave her their number, and less often that she felt tempted to actually contact them with it. But Zokora was...nice. So she took the paper and slipped it into a secure pocket, nudging Zokora’s arm back in a friendly way - before realizing that she’d only touched her to Elsecall her and dying a little of embarrassment. No matter how old you get, a faux pas is a faux pas. Acting like it had been totally normal, she said lightly, “Thanks. And that’s a good idea.” Then she closed her eyes to the Light of the teleportation and readied herself for what was to come. For all the many, many things to come.

Cass stopped as Shana stepped in front of her, touching her arm. “Oh...okay?” Shana looked so serious; Cassie racked her mind. Had she done something wrong? Been rude? Messed up in any way? She hadn’t said anything out loud to Shana about testing her Plate; had that been the wrong thing to do? Had Leona only meant for the others to come out with her, and she’d missed some social cue about being too old or too bad at fighting to join in?

this - take it to the HS PM or the A-J, please, if your interactions start heading in that direction. Cassie watched and waited, wondering what Leona's Shardblade would look like. Her spren was named Onyx; would it be black? But her small spike of excitement began to die as nothing happened...and was abruptly extinguished when Leona, Shana, and Flid all started minorly freaking out over a Blade that Cassie couldn't see. Her eyes squinched for a second before she smoothed her face out and said, "I can't see it, but congrats, Leona. Sounds like it must be pretty awesome." Why can I only see my Joyblade and not any other? Because I have to fight with mine, and the Nightwatcher was being nice? Just some quirk? Something to do with her being bonded to my soul, and other spren not? She followed Leona outside with a shrug. Maybe I should do what Shana suggested and try to summon my Shardplate. @Sorana @BookishOcelot @Lord Furret @Sherlock Holmes @ShadowLord_Lith

Deteca nodded in agreement, but didn't move either. Moving would mean going back to the again-decimated city, having to be a leader, having to know what to do. And continuing to sit here just meant enjoying the view of water and ships and the occasional bit of conversation. After a few minutes, she sighed and looked up. As much as she didn't want to, she had to face the press of issues sometime, for her guild and the innocent citizens of the Alleyverse if not for herself. She felt guiltier every second she sat here doing nothing except composing herself for the inevitability. "I'm sorry to ask this of you, but could you Elsecall me back to TUBA's main base in the Alleycity?"
