  1. By WOB recently this was said

Me: Can you use hemalurgy to power machinery?

Brandon: He was initially confused as to what I meant, so I said I got the idea from thinking about FTL travel, and he said that it was a RAFO, but that I was thinking along the right lines, there needs to be a merger between magic and technology.

So, if we need we need something of be a merger between science and magic. How about this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source_Code

Put a allomancer, (well the better part of him at least) in a "matrix"  machine device. We are in a sci-fi setting, so lets' say insert some cranial neural electrodes mambo-jumbo to active the "almost but not quite" allomancer body using his power but at same time that you have precise controls of what is going on and voilá a very creepy Bio-FTL-Allomancer drive.

Or we have the something between in this way, like if you wanna play square, use Hermalurgy to put in, let's say, a cloned body without conscious the required allomancer power to act like the bridge and  tcharammmm less creepy Bio-FTL-Allomancer drive.  (Ethical concern plot problems are a bonus)

In a more serious way anybody asked to Brandon if the Hermalurgy could be used to give Allomancer powers to animals ? I think that readed that Kandra could receive a spike with allomancer power,  but never if a dog or such could. If the answer is yes we could have something of Bio-FTL driver really going on.

    Crazy? Possible? Jujubes ? =)

    =)

  3. Me? I just speak Portuguese, a little bit of Spanish, and even less English, but man i like to fantasy so or I learnt English or I would stay grounded to read Harry Potter forever =)

There is no better teacher than necessity one could say =)

  4. Allow me to disagree.

This is really more of a comment on the militaristic elite of any people in history. I, for one, never really got an American vibe at all from the Alethi.  Maybe the French, but that's really just because of the uniforms and I think BS actually mentioned this at one point.  The language puts me more in mind of like...Arabs or Indians, plus the curry.

I don't see any commentary on either capitalism or consumerism either.

First my sentiments from everything that happened those days.

Second i stand my point, but this is just me, saying "Hey, I got this felling too".

It's kind cultural thing really. Most likely this is the reflection of the image that USA got here in my subconscious. I live in a very non-militarist country, so to me Usa foreign internationalist policies looks  a bit  aggressive and mostly like i associated with the Alenthi culture, after all interpretation are bound by the context and experiences that oneself have, to me something  mean a very different thing that to other people with different context.

Same thing with consumerism, i deeply aggravated by the issue of wealth distribution in society so i associated the Alenthi social paradigm of wealth distribution with the problem of consumerism, but this is me again going bananas =)

Don't read to deep in this ok =) All in all let agree in disagree, shall we ? =)

And take this upvote as a token of good fatih =)

  5. Well, nothing against you guys but indeed I agree that Alenthekar looks a bit it USA, they even have some minor Mexico issue going on with Herdaz (don't tell me you didn't notice that Lopen are latino =P) LOL

In true, I see here Brandon's small critic of consumerism and capitalism. Alenthekar the greatest country of Roshar have a a Elite class that enjoy a very opulent life style (that many times are put in very bad lights to the reader), where people are grinded to create profit that are used to the said elites pay for they pleasures.

Also them have a militarist way of solve problems. Are formed by smaller states that have a common origin but are relatively independent of which other, etc

Said this, plenty of things that a non-american person associates with USA you find in all Empires of history so no big deal here, and i'm not in the least trying do bash any country, but i really can see what the High  prince of geeks wanted to say, and agree with him. =0

    Peace  =)

  6. He going away will be some a plot device just made put him in a vulnerable situation with no stormlight and in the heart of the chaos, but i don't see offsetting his bond with his squirs. Lopen was in the Shattered Plains and Kal was in Urithiru when Lopen started to glow, so distance  shouldn't be such factor.   =)

There is plenty of spheres in the world and they discovery that will need they to fight Dalinar could easily  create more. We already saw 300 Knights together in the recreance (and this are just one order)  1000 squires aren't so different of what they had in that time =)

We don't Know enough to say that Syl will be affected, by my book this could be inclusive the that  next step in Kal Knighthood, his 2 first vows are about protect, maybe the 2 remaining are about be a leader and have 1000 squires to lead are a good way.

And finally Brandon 0 Rule, In Doubt err for the side off awesomeness LOL =)

  7. I think we are fixing to much in the "Kal will have no authority" "he must have some way to validate is authority" point. After all he can easily summon a shardblade, that glows, change shapes and that make his eyes almost with. Both things  in Roshar's history are related to power, the use of shard and and the eye color, and i'm sure he have no problem to do it if the need arise. He accepted his place as a radiant and now he will play his role, book 2 Kal character arc was exactly about this.

The real problem here is what he will do to save his family and city, something made thing go to hell there so he must investigate and defeat, after all this is the command he received from Dalinar save your family and help anyone that you could, and his order theme is exactly this protect the others.

In a way is funny that even after 2 books we really don't know much about the enemies in this serie. Ok there are the parshendi, but what the everstorm will really do with them? They will change only to stormform or all the forms will be available? And the other voidbringers when they will appear, thunderclast, nightessence, etc, etc.

Sanderson is a master in give only little bits of information per book, the next book I'm sure that will be the book where he show the enemies, and Kal being in the fry will be the perfect character to scout the Odium's spawns. =)

Kal are the actual powerhouse of Roshar, sure there are better fighters, but none have his powers, so putting in a difficult situation where he don't have access to plenty of stormlight and have to protect his family will create a great plot, after good books are all about conflict (plot, conflict) ;)

Roshone, Laral, pft... they are nothing by the second chapter Kal will have put both in they places, Roshone by taking away his authority, and his childhood sweetheart by being... well himself (serious Laral will think gosh i realllly mistreated the wrong person and to me this is enough) =)

The only doubt that i have is where Tarah will fit in this. Two books of hints are killing me, Se must have made a hell of impression to kal remember of her exactly when he are hugging a very pretty thing in a very cozy and wet way ;)

    Good be back. =)

  8. Well, whatever happen when Kal find his parents I think that they will not be able to stay in Alethkar. The country will be in chaos, so Kal will have to take his parents (and everyone else) to the Urithiru.

So Kaladin path in book 3 will be:

Kal look for his parents (problems, plot, problems) > find them, travel do Kolinar (
problems, plot, problems) > active the oath gate(problems, plot, problems) > epic battle with odium spawn of this book plus bridge 4 return like radiant  squires army trained to be awesome and kickass > kiss the girl *insert your favorite fandon here*  > end =)

  9. There are Female ardent Ive or something like this, that Vasher asked to helpin Kaladin sword training, she is my best bet. Close to Vasher, had a name with a little of resemblance of Viviane.

But to me Vasher comment that everyday that he choiced "to breath" he made a hadr choice, and other similar comments kind gived me the vibe of someone that are sad for something Vivi death maybe ?

  10. Both Lirin and Kaladin mother are very suspicious persons.

Thinking about them Lirin hobby are predict highstorm.

We all know that this is a veryyyyy odd thing to do and also difficult.  Kal this looks a hooby but if you look closely this are a very dangerous thing to man aspects because Vorin pecualiarities that frown on people predicting the future and man writing.

Also Both Liril and Hesina have a mysterious past. Kaladin knows almost nothing about his folks parents. Also Hesina know how to read where Alenthis darkeyes usually don't, and they did enter in contact with her parents even when they almost starving.

To me both are hidding something. Likely that Lirin are a former Stormwarden in the Restares secret society or Hesina are a enviseger.

There are always others secrets indeed =)

  11. To gain immortality they would have to be heavlly invested all the time(what are a dificult thing to do given the fact that thy leak ligh). Maybe when they are able to perfect hold the stormlight they will stop aging, so old Radiants could survive long times. What would be perfect with small orders like the bondsmith where they have a few member.

Also, this give hope that even after the timi skip we will have Kal and others character keeping relevant in the history =)

  12. I don't believe that Sanderson will play the spren turn in something again. He didn't showed who the plates are originated because he want to make a big deal of it later. We already saw that some ancient Fabrials are muchhhhh more powerful than the modern AKA Oathgate. This Fabrial was made from a metal similar with of the Shardblades, so it is possible to replicate in someway the metal used in the blade.

About why not equip all squires with plate. well we don't know who dificult are to create the thing, remeber that in the recreance Vision nort all Radiants had the plate, the windrunners are a foot. If  you had only a few paltes you for sure would use o protect your most powerful warriors.

My best guess are the bondsmiths. They must use some kind of spren/cognitive material to create the plate. =)

  13. Ahh don't forget poor Tarah. Two books of foreshadowing it must exist a reason. dhazellouise summed perfectly all KalxLan evidence, but three things stay in my mind when I think about them.

One - Shallan brother are huge a set back, and i think that Brandon will play this card before Kaladin and Shallan come close enough to be together (first rule of  love in fiction don't let your character get together too soon, a happy couple aren't very interessing)  This will set them a part very hardly, Kaladin know the true but are holding, this will not come from him Amaram or other person probably will realese this storm and when this hit the fan things will go south fast and furious. This is a treason.

Two - Tarah, Kaladin have this in him past we don't knw who she is put she is someone dear to Kal, thta helped him when he are down, and someone that he was intimate but that he failed. This knot must be untangle before Kal jump in another relationship, he like to blame himself for things and this kind fit in his personality.

Three - Shallan are playing a dangerous game with her spy act, and her pesonality are already fracturing because of this. This Shallan that like Kaladin aren't the only Shallan that exist. She are creating another persornas and she see this persornas like live persons (she commented that her spy self would be better to survive in tha Clasm and also said that if everyone must know that she are a radiant she would let them have this persona and keep the others to her). She hate pattern, and she have the habit of block the things that hurt her, I totally see blocking her original person(the one that like Kal) and using another one not soo lovely =)

In the first book Kaladin, Shallan, Szeth, Dalinar

    And of course this:

"There are four whom we watch. The first is the surgeon, forced to put aside healing to become a soldier in the most brutal war of our time. The second is the assassin, a murderer who weeps as he kills. The third is the liar, a young woman who wears a scholar’s mantle over the heart of a thief. The last is the highprince, a warlord whose eyes have opened to the past as his thirst for battle wanes.

The world can change. Surgebinding and Shardwielding can return; the magics of ancient days can become ours again. These four people are key.

One of them may redeem us.

And one of them will destroy us."

Guess who I'm thinking that gonna fall in madness; And guess who i think that will have to kill his heart to protect the wolrd. Tragic have to kill the one you love to protect the wolrd, isn't. This will be his last ideal probably =)

  14. Aw man. Well, something has to happen to Kaladin on the way to Hearthstone...

Well he goma fly without know  exactly he are with a power fueled by stormligt that he he just discovered  and without any mean to meassure how far he can go. For sure everything is gonna be alright =)

My best bet is that she will crash where Hoid and Jasnah are and there he will fall in love with her making every Jasnadin shipper happy.

Hoid will approve this given the fact that he already shipped Kaladin with Shallan just to spit Adolin. Some people just want see the world burn =)

Serious I'm hoping that he take bridge 4 with him he kind let his friend aside in WOR and the Almighty know that he must help his squires to achieve a good level of awesomeness =)
