  1. This would assume that they will attain the knowledge, time, and resources required to make new shards. I think Taln may shake this belief the Alethi have about eye color to its core before long.

Or he can suffer from lack of credibillity because he is darkeye and in the Alenthi culture there is great bias toward darkeyed people.

Just a short while before TWoK took place, even the idea of creating a fabrial that could block a shardblade was deemed impossible. the quote should read "they can only take the shape of a shield, for now."

This is what I'm expecting and Navani is, after all, in the Dalinar Team and given the great loss in manpower because the betray in the Tower the use of fabrial weapons to even the odds looks a possible solution.

  2. And the greatbows like we see Sadeas use occasionally.

    And the painknife.

I'm reasonably certain one of Kaladin's new circle of acquaintances is one of the worlds best fabrial engineers. :)

    My exact thought =)

How know, maybe Kalladin will be the first user o some kind of "fabrialspear" that give the user parry capacity, against a sharblade, or at least enough resistence to damage a shardplate. One can only hope =)

  3. Well I said that was a "Simple Theory", after all I don't have much data to put here =)

The gem must be divided because "Conjoiners were fabrials involving an infused ruby which was split in half, the split halves would then create parallel reactions across a distance".

So the half of  the gem move like a whole, because, I'm conviced the spren inside  the gem, which must have be measured (like as done in one of interludes) must  act was a whole even when the part are apart.

Given that the spren trapped inside the gem is bonded to that measurement. If you have a gravity spren how is attracted to the earth with a constant force, and you move a part of the whole the another part of the whole must move likewise to maintain "the stability" of that measurement, or something along this lines =)

I think that make sense, but I don't have enough data to be 100% precise so take this Cum grano salis.

  4. Hello friends. A was reading about fabrial science in the coppermind, and something caught my attetion in the Navani Notebook.

In some part of the book was written that:

"The cut and type of the gem determines what kind of spren are attracted to it and can be imprisoned in it.

There must be thousands of possible combinations.

Once a spren is captured and the gem infused with Stormlight the fabrial can be used in machines.

    Flamespren trapped in emerald.

(These are labels describing which spren are attracted to different gem cuts.)

    • cold
    • gravity
    • pain
    • heat
    • wind"

After read this I finally solved a question that I had about how really worked the Spanreeds. The aswer is so obvious simple that must be correct. Trapped inside of the spanreeds gems must exist a gravity spren! =)

So the Pairing fabrials (Conjoiners, like the spanreeds and the Reversers) are simply a gem with a gravity spren trapped inside that was cut in the middle. If you move one part o the gem the other follow and the same principle probally is used in the reversers only with the opossite effect.

I must say that is very clever from Mr. Sanderson all this fabrial science. At fist glance looks very "magical" but if you look closer is much more like a "pseudo-science" that anything else.

PS: Sorry for my "rockish" english =)

  5. Yes, yes he killed one shardbear, buy it was more a lucky strike than anything else, even szeth how are, supposedly, an better fighter had a shard weapon to even the odds against the shardbears.

And, in my humble oppinion the infused rock trick Szeth used is impratical in most cases because is very stormlight demanding, have a limited applicability given the time need to prepare the attack and large dependence a massive rock to use was weapon.

And let be frank Kalladin is a spearmaster, so his abilitty must have be used to something so he needs a weapon that do not break after a few strikes. Fabrial spear is my best guess, Navani  could maybe provide the means to develop his weapon =)

  6. OK, I know  is a bit silly but, after re-read the batlle against the parshendi in the tower I kind begin wonder if Kalladin, in the long run, would have any chance fighting only with a simple woody spear.

I know that he could put to shame most of regular troops (human or parshendi), but, to me, is clear that the real foe in the coming desolation will be too much to a simple woody spear handle, give that even against regular parshendi troops his spears broken down to easily.

Think about, If Kaladin have to face a Clasmfiend type voidbringer (like sly sugested) or a thunderclast he will be in deep trouble, because, let be frank a simple woody spear is almost ineffective against their hard armor.

Against a shard plate the spear, how lack both damage potential and parry capacity in face a sharvblade, is likewise a bad weapon choice, because to to an full armored, no damaged, shardbear almost any spear attack is only a minor inconvenience.

Futher more in some point Kaladin ask do Dalinar "full right of requisition" to the quartermaster fact that made think that he, thinking along this line, would possible ask to a custom made and reforced spear, (steal made or fabrial enhanced, like the Jah Kaved halfshard if possible).

Another possibilty that hit me is that he will use his surge abilities to, in someway, reforce his spear but, give the nature of his surge I think is unlikely.

So what waht you guys think?

PS: Sorry for my bad english =)

  7. OK, I really liked the red head bandana that Kaladin is using to cover his slavemarks, because I was curious to know what he would do about it. Very Rambo like =)

Better yet, I already can see Kal taking off the bandana for suprise factor when some noble bad mount the slave or such =)

  8. OK, I tried find if someone already have noticed this but I dind't find anytinhig so here goes =)

I was reading (for the first time) warbreak and in the first chapter of the book something caught my atettion, look this description:

"The man whistled as he unwrapped the cloth, revealing a long, thin-bladed sword in a silver sheath. The hilt was pure black" Aka= The Nightblood.

And in the two time that the sword that Hoid carry in The Way of Kings as described by Adolin and Kaladin look what they said.

"Though he wore a long thin sword tied to his waist, was far as Adolin knew, the man had never drawn it."

"He wore a thin-black sheathed sword"

Everytime that BS was asked how would win an shardblade or the nightblood we let the aswer to our imagination, so do you guys (and gals) think that Hoid, without nobody notice was carry the nightblood?

Think about, long, thin, black and never drawed(because of the breath cost), maybe we in fact will see what happens when nightblood and shardblade clashs =)

  9. Ok,  long date lurker speaking for the first time here =)

I was re-re-re-re-reading the way of kings and a noticed something interesting about the two best cases of a person learning to use a Surgebinding  narrated in the book – Shallan and Kaladin –

Paying close attention to the history of this two characters I noticed that both, passed, unintentionally from some a kind of “rite of passage” before they started use they respective surgebind, more proficiently, what give me the thought that, maybe, before someone can use all the powers of an order they have to fill the following prerequisites.

1-Act by the ideal of an order(to attract the spren associated with an order)

2-Make a bond with the spren associated with the ideal of that order(to have access to the power of the order)

3-Be put in a situation where, while they are holding the gem of they order, they follow the ideal – The Trigger to the first level in the path of radiance.

In the book, both Shallan and Kaladin had contact with an spren(truth and honor) and both are holding the gems of they respective order (Garnet and Sapphire) before an event where the ideal of their order are followed( Shallan being honest and Kalladin protecting his man of being punished by the failure of the side carry), started to use their power (Shallan soulcasting and Kalladin  starting discovery his wind running powers)

    What do you think?

PS: Forgive my grammar, spelling. My enngrisshhh is very rusted.

    =)
