  1. There is a professor on campus that vaguely (at least in my mind) resembles Hoid. My friend and I have a game to see how many pictures we can take of him showing up at random places. At the end of the month we total the number of pictures and the loser buys dinner.
  2. Not to dig up an old topic, but I just barely found this thread, and as a Mormon, let me just say I really appreciate the respectful and well educated discussion of our beliefs. The 17th Shard has officially renewed my faith in the internet! Also @ryshadium90, I have also noticed the similarity between chiasmus and keteks, which I have found very interesting. I have done a bit of research on chiasmus in the past because it has interested me and it is an Ancient Hebrew literally device that can be found in the Book of Mormon as well as several places in the Old Testament. A really good example can be found in Genesis 7:21-23 for anyone who is interested.
  3. A friend that I met in one of my engineering classes at school was talking about books with me one day. After hearing we liked similar things, I recommended that he read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (which you should all read too if you haven't). He in turn recommended that I read Way of Kings. Not wanting to buy something that I wasn't sure I would enjoy (yes, I was so naive) I went looking for it at the city library. I couldn't find it but I did come across the short story, Perfect State. I read that and really enjoyed it and from there went to the Reckoners series, which I also really liked. Eventually Way of Kings became available and that is when I really fell in love.
  4. I personally love Oathbringer, chapter 105, Spirt, Mind and Body, and chapter 114 The Cost . Dalinar is my favorite character and the culmination backstory is epic. The path he takes from the bloodthirsty warrior from his first flashback to the man we first meet in WoK is heart wrenching at times. But he did eventually become "the only honest officer in the army, an honorable soldier" as Evi described him to Renarin. And then his journey from a man still looking for answers on the Shattered Plains to a Bondsmith bonded with the Stormfather and then literally and figuratively confining the Thrill outside Thaylen City and coming to grips with his past is just amazing. I know that is way more than one chapter but the two mentioned above are the biggest moments in my opinion.
  5. Wow well done @HoidsRock, much more in depth than what I had thanks for the insight.
  6. Great point, I suppose that distinction is pretty significant
  7. So I have been pondering about the Heralds lately: where they are at, what's going on with their Blade, and how their various states of crazy are manifesting. I have complied a list of what I could come up with. Please fill in gaps, offer any corrections (I'm sure I probably missed something), and most importantly, let fly with all of your wild speculations. 1. Jezrien-Well apparently he and Dalinar drank themselves into oblivion together once upon a time, but it seems he is dead, and not just back in Damnation until the next Desolation dead but dead dead. Moash (Vyre, whatever, that one guy we all hate) killed him with that weird knife and now Moash also carries Jezrien's Blade. 2. Nalan-Decided to go all in with the Voidbringers because he likes justice and stuff. Got his Blade back from the Shin somehow. 3. Shalash-Likes to deface art (pun intended), last seen hanging out with Taln outside of Thaylen City. Blade presumably with the Shin. 4. Talenel- With Shalash. Obviously he is a stud for withstanding torture for 4500 years and allowing mankind to advance without Voidbringers messing stuff up. Is understandably a tad loopy but might have started coming out of it a bit at the end. Maybe? Who knows? Also his Blade has gone AWOL. Nobody knows where that went but someone should probably track down that all-powerful piece of Honor himself before it ends up with the bad guys. If it hasn't already. 5. Battar-Apparently she is hanging out in Karbranth and everyone's favorite King of Variable Intelligence knows it and use it somehow. Wasn't super clear on this one. Blade still with the Shin. 6. Ishar- Crazy emperor dude, wants to take over everything. Blade with the Shin as far as we know. 7. Kelek- Showed up randomly in Kohlinar the night when everything went down and had a chat with Nale. Jasnah saw them. The Shin got his Blade. 8-10. I have no clue on Paliah, Vedel, or Chanarach. The Shin have all their Blades, which means that this group we know little about has a whole lot of power and access to all the Surges except Gravitation by my reckoning. So that is what I came up with, lets here what you have to say.
  8. I really like the idea of the white being a shade of red Kaladin can't distinguish. Its been awhile since I last read WB, maybe its time for a reread but I am seeing some good arguments that it is not the same painting. Definitely the same artist though I would think.
  9. So reading through Oathbringer I noticed more connections to the Cosmere as a whole than any other book, particularly in regards to Warbreaker. Most of these have already been discussed and maybe this one has too, but one that jumped out at me was when Kaladin was looking at the painting in the market that came from the Court of the Gods. In it Kaladin saw the Odium's champion with nine shadows. The description of the painting reminded me of the painting that Lightsong saw of the Red Panther in Warbreaker. If I remember correctly Scoot described the painting as being abstract and showing something unique to whomever was looking at it. In both cases the painting was described as swirls of red and black. It also wasn't destroyed because Lightsong liked it. Could this same painting have somehow made its way to Shadesmar? At the very least it has to have been done by the same artist right? Could the artist be working with some sort of Investiture to make these paintings? Your thoughts please.
  10. As an engineering student I can totally see where you are coming from. I would definitely included myself in the group of nerdy introverts, but I do have a friend who is just as much into engineering (and the Stormlight Archive for that matter) as I am and he is very assertive, especially with relationships. Navani is certainly outside the norm I would say, but not completely unbelievable.
  11. I haven't read any era two actually. I am currently rereading Well of Ascension, little more than half way done and then I'll do Hero of Ages and start on the Wax and Wayne. As for favorite Sanderson book....hmm that's a tough one. I would probably have to go with Oathbringer, it was absolutely phenomenal! Steelheart was my first however so it will always be special
  12. I personally love Jasnah. Brandon does a great job at crafting complex characters and she is one of the best.
  13. Hey Guys! So I have been reading posts and discussions here for awhile now and finally decided to make a profile and join the discussion. I am currently working on era two of Mistborn but other than that I have read all of Sanderson's published work to date, except for maybe a few missed short stories here and there. I really like the Cosmere theories and seeing how everything ties together and am looking forward to getting involved
