Anniversary Game 4/Anonymous Game 1: A Fresh Start
Fifth Scholar replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Agree with @randuir on this. Well played to each of the Elims, each one of which had me completely fooled. Thank you very much to both Orlok and STINK (and Wilson and Elbereth later on) for running this AG, especially to Orlok who did so while suffering from an illness. This was a great intro to SE for me, and I very much look forward to future games with all of you.- 1054 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Unfortunately, with the cycle about to close, I don’t really have a clear suspect, as new evidence has come to light that A Joe in the Bush was acting honestly. I don’t really have a reason to join any of the current lynches, so I’m just not going to vote this cycle, as it would serve little purpose. and I don’t want to die to Koloss- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ooh I want to die too! A Joe in the Bush. My case against Joe is threefold. First, most of his posts have been in RP. While I appreciate RP and it’s quite elegant, especially his, Joe’s tendency to put characters dying and potential in-game information into his posts makes it very difficult to discern his motives. Also, he’s been portraying some of the characters in his RP doing some very anachronistic activities, such as having the very fine dinner Olaf was having turn into an Uno game. This is likely a way of sending secret messages to certain players, and I would like him to tell us which players are secretly being signaled. Otherwise, the whole thing looks fishy. Second is his PM behavior. While I’ve made an effort to include Joe in every PM I’ve made in this game, he has yet to respond to one of them except a brief interruption to correct a grammatical mistake. This suggests to me that Joe is playing hard-to-get, and doesn’t want to reveal his intentions in front of a large group of people. However, he’s contacted me in an individual PM, so he’s clearly not incapable of speech in PMs. I’d like to know what he’s planning, which is secretive enough so that he can’t voice his concerns in front of a large group of people, but then he suddenly finds his voice when talking one-on-one. But of course he never talks about plans, just reports on actions and rules questions. And that’s all he’s been doing in my house doc too. Speaking of my house doc, he’s in it, but I never see him talking about how much he wants to betray us, and I don’t think he even sent in an action last cycle. He’s not even listed under the members of our house despite being in our doc, which may be a GM error, but I think a doc-spying role is a greater possibility. I didn’t mean to out Joe like that, but I definitely would like an explanation for why he’s been snooping around in PMs and docs, and I think revealing a possible role he might hold is a small price to pay for the information we might gain if he responds. Third and finally, he seems to know information others don’t have access to. For instance this post Shows how Joe seems to get important info about who is attacked and killed before the rest of us do. And that’s dangerous, because think of all the information he could be holding back from us as we speak. Sorry Joe, but you definitely look the most suspicious right now, and I think you deserve immediate lynching attention, no matter what house you or anyone else may be in. @A Joe in the Bush, care to respond to these accusations?- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
The plot thickens... I find it kind of funny that my house was the only one not to have a kill go through. At least 1 member of my House lied about their Night action, which led to our kill being blocked. Guess we were just too busy playing Uno by candlelight I’d keep a very close eye on the Tormanders. One of the three is in a good position to seize control of the house, and I suggest we refrain from lynching any of them this cycle. A house with only 2 members left would become... volatile. And I’m not sure if we want that much unpredictability turn two.- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Okay. So voting for no lynch actually does stop the lynch. That’s interesting. I didn’t think it would work that way, but evidently I was wrong. With that said, this little peace treaty is clearly unsustainable. I fully expect at LEAST 2 people dead tonight. Sorry to everyone going for the all-Kandra win con. I will continue to tag @shanerockes and @Mafia until they return to activity. Please join us, it’s so much fun when you get to murder your fellow Sharders!- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I agree with Orlok here. A No Lynch slows the game, and provides no real way for us to gain info about players. It is too convenient of a middle ground. Ivan Heron/Mafia Because Contribution Crusade. PMed both him and shanerockes, but still no reply from either. 3 minutes left in the cycle: everybody switch your votes now!- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Again, your idea is nice in theory, but the reality is that not everyone will go along with this. And the plan requires everyone. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be trying to have fun; if your “everyone wins” strategy makes you happy, I’m fine with you pushing for it. But it doesn’t look like this is going to gain universal support. If anyone has any thoughts on the lynch that don’t pertain to Drought, I’d love to hear them, as I’m kind of at a loss as to who I want to lynch. Anyone interested in providing some ideas?- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Magestar@Bugsy My issue with Drought is that he’s presenting a “solution” that essentially requires everybody to do nothing. What could he possibly have to gain from this? For all we know, his plan is a giant ruse designed to get himself a bunch of Atium to fuel Mistborn that will kill all of us. Not saying that’s what he’s trying to do, just that a plan that requires everyone to sit and wait likely involves some form of “plotting to kill you later” in it. For all I know, Drought could actually want the Kandra win. But I don’t, and I have no real way to ascertain Drought’s motives, so I must assume the worst. I’m not going along with Drought’s plan anyway, but you’re probably right that lynching him isn’t the right move- if anything, the number of lynch votes he attracted seems to indicate that his plan won’t work anyway, and so the plan itself isn’t the greatest reason to vote on him. Droughtbringer. With that being said, despite my support of a Contribution Crusade lynch, it’s a wee bit early in the cycle to start targeting people for “inactivity” which may be timezone/availability based. I’d be happy to jump on a CC lynch later this cycle, though. @livinglegend Does the immediate retraction of my vote signal an Eliminator attempting to quickly distance himself from a lynch and deflect attention, or a villager who doesn’t want their actions drawing suspicion so that the actual Elims can be dealt with?- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hey guys, if you didn’t realize, everyone’s house affiliation is posted up in the OP for this cycle. Everyone supporting this Kandra win is a Tormander. 4 people are against it: 2 Heatherlocke, 1 Heron and 1 Ffnord. Don’t listen to the evil Tormander plots. I sense doc coordination. Droughtbringer. You’re welcome, Steeldancer and Bugsy. (If Orlok and Lopen jump on, which I find unlikely, it’s 100% doc coordination.) Also, I know I’m joining this bandwagon, but...this is really early in the cycle for a bandwagon.- 352 replies

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I dislike this plan, as it would take too long, and I don’t think the GMs want to run a game that’s mostly just waiting around for a perfect unified victory. It doesn’t seem like a lot of fun. Of course, it’s likely to not be that much fun to other people as well, and I suspect those pushing the no-death win condition of having ulterior motives for their posts. Namely, trying to get other houses to sit on their hands while they accumulate wealth and atium, then using it late-game to kill their rivals and win. (I mean, we all have ulterior motives, but theirs seem particularly nefarious.) As such, I don’t support this strange all-Kandra joyfest, but I do support either a D1 no-lynch or a Contribution Crusade lynch. It seems that in this game, the lynch functions more as a way to eliminate political rivals than to kill a player who’s acting suspiciously, and hopefully no huge political rivalries have sprung up yet. But a Crusade lynch would encourage discussion AND support one House which would lose one of its members, putting the rest closer to victory. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, I think if you vote “no lynch” Joe will probably create a character whose name is No Lynch, and have everyone who voted on him die. Or something similarly trolly. Basically, I don’t think voting for “no lynch” will stop a lynch unless literally every single player who votes, votes for it. And I’m not going to .- 352 replies

[OB] Poll: Which news will the coalition take worse?
Fifth Scholar replied to WhiteLeeopard's topic in Stormlight Archive
Definitely the Skybreakers in my opinion. It mainly weakens Dalinar, as others will wonder if 1)Dalinar can keep control of these mysterious “Radiants” 2)Dalinar himself isn’t susceptible to betrayal 3)Dalinar has the ability to stop a full order of Radiants that has gone rogue. Plus, of course, the immediate threat they would pose to the coalition could cause many to panic, exacerbating the other issues dividing the coalition. If I couldn’t vote on the Skybreakers, I’d definitely say Dalinar’s deal with Odium is the most worrying to other coalition members, as Dalinar made the deal without their agreement, and the fate of the world could rest on it. -
I’d love to hold Shardic Power! (yeah, Shard game. Could you put Harmony in this one though? I think it’d make for an interesting switch-up)

Long Game 42: Master of the House
Fifth Scholar replied to Jo and the Bush's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Hmmm...I think I’ll give this a try. I’ll sign up as Count Olaf, and I prefer longer night turns. Questions for the GMs: 1. At what point will the game end? With no typical Eliminator or village factions, does the game continue until one player is left alive, and then all members of the Houses that survived the longest win together? Or does the game end when any 1 player achieves their win condition? 2. Do Guards have an Atium ability? 3. Can you use Obligators on a member of your own house? 4. Does Skaa mining have a 30% chance of success, or does it succeed 30% of the time? (For instance, if 10 mining orders are sent in, would 3 go through no matter what, or would each order have a 30% chance of going through?) Excited to try out an LG, and hope that I don’t get screwed over by one of Joe’s infamous secret roles.- 352 replies

[OB] Known/Speculated Black Spheres
Fifth Scholar replied to Enyo_Face's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Enyo_Face I believe these spheres contain Voidlight, not trapped Unmade. The descriptions of the light inside the spheres match the descriptions of Voidlight in OB. In addition, let’s run through our Unmade: Moelach- Loose and roaming Sja’anat- Loose, betrayed Odium? Ashertmarn- Loose, roaming? Returned to Odium? In Kholinar? We aren’t specifically told. Ba-Ado-Mishram- Status unknown Nergaoul- Trapped by Dalinar Yelignar- Last inhabited Amaram. Odium likely picked him back up after the battle. Midnight Mother- Retreated deeper into Urithiru or left it completely after confrontation with Shallan. Chemoarish- Status unknown 9th Unmade- Status unknown However, even with 3 Unmade that haven’t popped up yet, I find it implausible that all 3 were captured without Odium doing something about it, and even more implausible that Gavilar somehow got all 3, and even more implausible that he starts handing them out like candy on Halloween night if they really contain Unmade. While they likely have some significance, I doubt they play the role you think they do. -
[OB] What parts of Oathbringer touched you?
Fifth Scholar replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
While many of the scenes in OB moved me, the only one that actually caused me to tear up was the Dalinar flashback when Renarin hands him the bottle. The whole scene is profoundly moving, and I love how it’s Renarin that makes Dalinar turn around, consider his problems, and finally turn himself into a better man. In particular, these sentences at the end: “Oh, Almighty. Oh God. Oh God please... I’ve started to hate my sons. Why hadn’t the boys learned to hate him back? They should hate him. He deserved to be hated. Please. Anything. I don’t know how to get free of this. Help me. Help me... Dalinar wept and clung to that youth, that child, as if he were the only real thing left in a world of shadows.” -Oathbringer chapter 94, “A Small Bottle” -
Hello! As I saw a topic for new member introduction, I thought I’d make myself known to some of the other people crazy enough about a book series to join a fan site for it. I am a long time reader of fantasy, my favorite still being Tolkien’s universe. However, when my friend Cameron (aka Hemalurgic Headshot) mentioned that Oathbringer was coming out soon, I thought I’d try out this series. And down the rabbit hole I went. I started with Way of Kings, was hooked enough that I finished in three and a half days, then got straight into Words of Radiance. Since then, I’ve read all of Brandon’s Cosmere works except Emperor’s Soul and the Wax and Wayne series (my public library has Bands of Mourning and Shadows of Self but NOT Alloy of Law). However, after I find a copy of AoL, I should be able to join the rest of the Cosmere theorists. Until then, I just wanted to put myself out into the community and see what I could do here with the books I’ve already read.
