  1. I would suggest Spatial Awareness as Kaladins non-Stormlight ability. At times he comments on that he could fight with his eyes closed - and the way he so narrowly avoids so many attacks. Neither of those two by itself are special. But together... They indicate something more.
  2. I am more inclined to agree with Aleksiel here... It seems that her values of right and wrong are derived from deep down what Kaladin believes to be right or wrong. Its interesting that Wyndle and Pattern seem to have more of an idea with what is happening than Syl... They know what their Radiant's are capable of, know of the politics in the Shadesmar etc.
  3. I love this ""I can't think of a better origin point for deadly and destructive things." Also, if the Highstorm spreads out like a wave from the origin, it would spread - think a drop of water hitting a puddle - and get weaker - until it was half way around the world - at which point the high storm would start to get stronger again as it came back together - finally reaching a point exactly opposite the origin and kind of exploding into itself - or that is how it would be if it didn't lose energy and wasn't affected by the rest of the planet's weather. I'd say that both of those were true though, seems the high storm is stopped like a mountain before Shinovar - meaning you CAN take energy from it by land. Of course, it is probably being fed energy as it goes - because we've never been told its weaker anywhere than anywhere else - other than Shinovar - so I doubt we can really use any kind of semi-real-world-analogue to describe it.
  4. I spent majority of the book screaming at my phone (e-book) angry and frustrated things at Kaladin... And I loved every minute of it. He needed to travel that road and reach that realisation. Yes, it could have happened earlier... But after having the same thing beaten into him time and time again - and then when he finally almost gets over it - is hit with it again, of course he's going to hold back and react that way. But its not only that for me... If a story doesn't make me laugh, cry, rage, feel immense relief, throw the book, and generally shout all manner of things, then I'm not absolutely loving it. There aren't many books that can do that for me, and this was certainly one.
  5. I don't believe Nightblood is a Shardblade, that is just how you would describe it to someone like Szeth in world. In which case there would be a third type of blade. Shardblade (Spren), Honourblade and something else. That said, one of my friends thinks that the Heralds from Roshar are the five Scholars from Warbreaker - and that Nightblood may actually be an Awakened 'dead' Shardblade rather than just an Awakened sword. It's a little complicated. On an unrelated note. I'd love to know how many Heralds have Worldhopped into or out of the Greater Roshar system since they left Taln alone.
  6. I recall somewhere someone mentioned the strange symbol that was scattered all throughout the maps. It's faint in the shattered planes, and it was within the compass (NSEW marking, I've forgotten what it's called). I mention this because it's on the Stormlight archive shirt in a darker blue behind the double eye of the Almighty and the five swords. Thought people would like to know.
  7. Have we ever asked if Hoid is a Sliver?
  8. Did Taravangian imply that the Unmade were the ones causing the Deathquotes and the Thrill? He seemed to think that they weren't a really big deal though - and practically dismissed them - which seems a bit odd if they are in fact Odium's lieutenants. Also, it seems that it is the Unmade who can Voidbind... or cause Voidbinding in others. We have been told time and time again that seeing the future is a thing of Voidbinding - and Taravangian said that all them had some connection to the future... The Thrill doesn't really fit that, though... Battle lust isn't really foresight related. Also, these names don't match the style of the names in the Deathquotes... I guess that could be a culture thing more than anything though.
  9. There is certainly some kind of diagonal symmetry to it... But it almost looks like the whole land mass has been spun anti-clockwise about the center and left a trail of islands on each size... Which I don't think would happen if you span the planet about itself really fast... Right?
  10. Interesting that its silver, of all things. Silver resists Allomancy and destroys shades... Funny thing is, the only thing we have seen resist magical effects so far is a highly invested object. You have suggested allomancy couldn't affect people due to their bubble of innate investment - which is certainly interesting... But then why can Windrunners lash people into the air? I do recall somewhere that WoB said that Surgebinding is much more powerful than Allomancy though... Also, about Justice... I don't know - it seems awfully like a sub-ideal of Honour... (Which I would say is why it is one of the characteristics of one of the orders of the Knights Radiant) However as you have said, Justice and Mercy are generally considered Divine Attributes - the same way that Odium or Devotion are.
  11. I'd be interested. But I definitely have weeks where I don't achieve anything. And my work timetable is... Predictable in its unpredictableness. (I work on a ten day schedule. (Would fit in with a Roshar week nicely). Also, I am AEST... Australian Eastern Standard Time... So good luck fitting me in somewhere
  12. Thanks Peter. You wouldn't happen to know any off the bat that will ship to Australia?
  13. Seems fair. I can wait until then (have the e-book at the moment). I'll just have to make sure I pre-order the next one. Thanks!
  14. So... I have come to the decision that I am going to collect the hard cover editions of the Stormlight Archive. (So far I have been collecting the small sized trade paperbacks of every book - but they don't get released for a year or so after the book release - its an OCD thing :/) I can purchase a signed and personalized Way of Kings on Brandon's Store. (http://store.brandonsanderson.com/the-way-of-kings-hardcover/) Is there anywhere I can still get a signed and personalized copy of Words of Radiance (obviously a bit late to the party on this one), or will it be released on Brandon's store like The Way of Kings at a later date? Thanks in advance, Youngy
  15. Mistborn Spoilers
  16. Pretty much the following. Nightblood will just seem like a magical blade, which talks (has a cognitive aspect, like Shardblades), and more powerful than said Shardblades in whatever way. Really, you could assume Odiumblade and understand completely what happens when you see it.
  17. This is actually intriguing. The fact that Szeth could be resurrected could imply that he wasn't actually dead - it was simply his cognitive aspect which had been destroyed - which Stormlight seems to be able to repair. He hadn't quite died, the body was still living, just not receiving any commands. More to this. When a blade cuts off a limb, the limb turns numb, not dead - just a lack of cognition and control of the limb. When the blade cuts the spine, the persons eyes are burnt out and they die. Now, this is a bit touch and go... But to me, the eyes are the part of the body that most represents the cognitive ability of a person, the ability to see. So I would be implying you are right. Shardblades cut cognitive because they are cognitive. Stormlight healing however, can heal the cognitive part of a body because it seems to restore humans to the spiritual standard - encompassing both the cognitive and physical parts of the person.
  18. Definitely Cultivation I would say. We had WoB somewhere (from a signed book I think) saying Cultivation didn't like Hoid.
  19. But none of the Shards in the trilogy were actually Shattered at any point during the Mistborn series (or before or after).
  20. I was under the impression that "do you think that was an Honourblade" was a sarcastic comment because it didn't cut off the feeling to her leg. However, I also took that to mean that the Parshendi know Honourblades come in different forms - or change form.
  21. Really, we should have been given this glimpse with LESS context. 'Lopen, you are glowing, and this is impressive. But you can also fly. For this, you may marry my daughter.'
  22. I assumed it was Laramil that brought him down. Or Hashal and Matal found out why Gaz was paying Laramil and had him removed because of it.
  23. I immediately thought of the pressure theory when the lake draining was mentioned... But water isn't very compressible, so there would need to be something in the holes that was...
  24. I've been thinking a lot recently about the God Beyond - and who or what it is. The first thing I've found (or rather not found) is that we don't have much to go on. TThe second of course, was this topic about the God Beyond / Unknown God possibly being in opposition to Adonalsium. But here is what I've gathered: - Wayne (AoL)[ Silence Montane worships them. Shai refers to the Unknown God and that for her people there is a relationship between it and the rocks that fell from the sky. (And they carved these rocks) Raoden was possibly influenced by the Unknown God when teleporting in the final chapters of Elantris... This is speculation. So... The God Beyond is known in several planets across the Cosmere - Sel as the Unknown God - Scadrial and [unknown planet] as the God Beyond. The God Beyond may have assisted Raoden for some reason - we cannot truly know why without seeing what he accomplished with the remainder of his life - or whether it was just out of niceness... The God Beyond is known of on Scadrial - this is important, because it means either Sazed/Harmony introduced the religion there - after more scouring of the Cosmere maybe - or it has cropped up without his influence. I'd like to note one other thing... The name. This is getting a little bit speculative... Well, more speculative than the rest of it... The God Beyond. Now, to me, that could mean one of two things beyond as in beyond the physical realm (which could mean Cognitive or Spiritual)... But I am more inclined to believe that it really means from beyond death. And so it is my theory that the God Beyond is Adonalsium - or what was left of it after it was shattered. What we know of are sixteen shards of this power - each a contained intent - each with no cognitive aspect to direct it. So if there was a 'being' controlling them when Adonalsium was whole - maybe it wasn't completely destroyed in the shattering - and maybe it is still out there, subtly manipulating events where needed - either from the spiritual realm (or beyond - Sazed was pretty convinced that Vin and Elend were still around and well somewhere - which could have actually been in the spiritual realm now that I think of it). Any thoughts?
