His response to Dalinar's transformation provides a clue. He screams "we killed you.  WE KILLED YOU". But who is the "we" that Odium would accept as having been an equal assassin?

Speaking of "we", are we even sure who "you" is?

  2. That's interesting, I hadn't thought about that at all. Admittedly, "Strength before weakness" IS ambiguous, and I guess I only thought about one side of it after Teft's "lesson" in chapter 59 of Way of Kings:

    Quote

“Strength before weakness. All men are weak at some time in their lives. The Radiant protects those who are weak, and uses his strength for others. Strength does not make one capable of rule; it makes one capable of service.”

I wonder if people have other "odiumy" interpretations of the First Ideal. Can't think of any at the moment.

I am not a psychologist, but there are a lot of criterias for BPD, and "distorted and unstable self-image or sense of self" is only one of them.

    Check out (signs and symptoms):

    https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/borderline-personality-disorder/index.shtml

You'd have to make a case for a few of those...

For "fun", you could answer this quiz as an "informant", based on what you know of Shallan:

I find it unlikely that she'd get the diagnosis, really.

Vin does it more than once, I think. I do remember that she Soothes everything away but fear, and then Riots the fear, when she forces Kliss to tell her what she knew about a plot against Elend at the last ball before the skaa rebellion broke out.

Just checked it out, you are correct! It's in chapter 31 of The Final Empire.

Another instance (perhaps not as good an example), in The Well of Ascension (chapter 52):

"She threw a Soothing on the couple, suppressing their concern and suspicion. Then, she Rioted their willingness to help. She wasn't as good as Breeze, but she wasn't unpracticed, either. The couple immediately relaxed."

What happens when one uses both rioting and soothing at the same time, ie, Dampening all but one emotion then enflaming that one emotion?

There's a scene in Hero of Ages where this happens. It's at the end of chapter 41, 5 last paragraphs.

I'd post the excerpt but I'm new here and not yet sure of the policy regarding spoilers and excerpts.
