  1. Tom looked at her. "Hello, Tamika." His voice betrayed no emotion.
  2. He was tall, but not too tall. He looked older, maybe late thirties. He had brown hair, blue eyes, and a light beard. He had a tinge of recklessness in his eyes, but it was tempered by a sense of weariness that hung around him. This was a man who had lived life for a long, long time. Sam sank to his knees in horror. "No, no, no...."
  3. I was thinking of having the spell observe the environment and activate when a condition is met.
  4. I think you could activate it again, but the ink might fade each time you do it. The range of a spell would likely be power-based: i.e. more fuel=more range. I think the variables are included on each part of the main body and describe the specifics of that part, but this could be changed. That would be worth soooo many points... Maybe Not unless you include that in the spell. It would work like Hemalurgy (I think) Sure, why not. Trigger words.
  5. "Perhaps I can enlighten you, then." A door swung open, and Tom Joebob walked out.
  6. Sam stood up, putting a hand to his head. He felt… strange. He looked down at the key in his hand, then up towards the taller handerfle. He blinked. "Rorim? Why...?" His eyes widened. "No..." he whispered. Rorim ignored the half-handerfle. "No. Keyed refersss to... sssomething elssse."
  7. Rumplestiltskin walked through the woods. The leaves crunched softly beneath his feet. He passed a squirrel, and it scurried up a tree. He turned to look at it and sighed. Usually, when he walked through the woods, he made no sound at all. Animals wouldn’t even notice he was there. Usually. But today wasn’t a usual day, was it? Yesterday hadn’t been either. Or the day before. This week had been, as a whole, not the usual week. And with good reason: it wasn’t often that you got the chance to bind a changeling. It required planning, foresight, and a whole lot of luck. You had to be willing to spend a lot of money, too. Mountains of gold didn’t just appear out of thin air. He wished they did. Then, at least, he wouldn’t have to face the fact that he’d spent almost half of the family fortune for nothing. Because he’d failed. And it was his own fault. He’d done everything he was supposed to do, followed all the instructions, but in the end it came down to being able to actually go through with it. And he couldn’t. In the end, it was kidnapping, albeit bargained kidnapping. The child would grow up alone, without any other humans to keep it company. Sure, there’d be plenty of dwarves, but dwarves weren’t humans. In the end, they would benefit. Humans were capable of performing just as much magic as any other fae creature. The power was latent inside all humans, but as they got older it became harder and harder to access. That’s why changelings were taken at birth; the earlier the process of opening up the child could begin, the more powerful they would become. He’d known a couple of them in his lifetime. Many of them stuck around, defending the fae world from the advances of the magically devoid humans. That was their main task; because they understood humans, they could provide a bridge between the mundane and the magical. Without their help, the fae would have already fallen. It was a hard task, one that changelings were brought up to do from the very first day they were taken. It was certainly not one that they themselves were glad to bear. But they did it, willing to take whatever burden they needed so that magic would not disappear from the world entirely. The child he had just left should have been one of them. But he’d chickened out, unwilling to condemn it to such a fate. All that gold that he’d moved to replace the straw- wasted. Even worse, he’d ruined the chance that his family had had to gain the prestige of having bargained for and collected a changeling. They couldn’t be made from just any kidnapped human, after all. But it was too late now. He’d offered an out, and they’d taken it. All he’d gotten from his ill-made promise was a couple of ordinary-looking beans. Wouldn’t his father be delighted to hear that. He stopped and leaned up against a tree to rest and think. How was he going to get out of this dilemma?
  8. Arsek looked wounded. He spoke something in handerfle language. The taller handerfle looked up and laughed. "Arsssek isss insssulted by your comment, human. You have wounded hisss ego." At that moment, Sam appeared from thin air. He blinked his eyes and fell over. In his hand was clutched a something that looked like a key.
  9. The taller handerfle hesitated. "No." he said. "I didn't." His mind was racing. This was not good. At that moment, they touched down on the deck of the ship.
  10. Enolc looked up nervously. The Alleystorm was almost here. The boat began to move, agonizingly slowly. It eased out of the pier, but it wasn't moving fast enough.
  11. Hey, @beantheboy12 How will your character's appearance in the Alleyverse affect his story in Fallen?
  12. The handerfle paused. "I... I pick up thingsss. From my bosss..." He swallowed, aware he wasn't being very convincing. Arsek looked over, interested. He spoke something in the strange handerfle language, along with something that sounded like a laugh. The taller handerfle glared at him. "Your commentsss are not apprecssiated, Arsssek." Arsek snorted and began to slow down. They were approaching the ship, which bobbed in the entrance to an underground tunnel.
  13. The handerfles flew on. The taller one shifted Thought up onto his back. "Sssorry for the dissscomfort, Tamika. I-" He froze, realizing what he had just said.
  14. My idea is that magic is a resource that's semi-nonrenewable. It wouldn't be hard to get, not exactly, but there would be practical consequences to using a whole lot of it. I'm picturing it as an analog to electricity here on earth. There are plenty of ways to generate it, but they all have their drawbacks.
  15. Saying that Innates need fuel is a bit misleading. Innates have a natural ability; all the needed investiture is already in their spiritweb. Ritual should need fuel, though. Does anyone have problems with the crystals idea?
  16. Yes, but they could see all investiture. Including active investiture.
  17. I feel that it's too connected to Ritual. Maybe they can (in addition to seeing the spiritweb) also see the currents of magic that flow through the world.
  18. Arsek let AJ get onto his back, then began to follow his companion.
  19. How does Innate connect to Natural
  20. A bullet pinged off the shield. The handerfle hissed. "That'sss our cue to leave." He spread his wings and lifted off, taking Thought with him.
  21. I just want the Innate system to be able to work with both Natural and Ritual magics, allowing a 'translation' of sorts between the two.
  22. I'm okay with it not taking millennia to figure out how to move the "hot" gene.
  23. Enolc yelped and brought his hand down on Red's arm. A copy of Red appeared a few feet away.
