    Erif seemed dazed. "Yeah... yeah, I guess." "If I may ask," said the inspector, "what... happened?" "I guess you guys'll just have to walk," said Bacon, shrugging. "See ya." With that, he teleported to the top of the mountain.

    The destroyer remained pinned. Alone. "One day," he spoke. "One day... you will understand. You will use my gift. And you will join us..." With that, he melted away, flowing into the ground. In moments, nothing remained. Bacon muttered something and then teleported around a little. "Well, I can give myself the ability to teleport, at least," he mumbled. "I guess that'll work."

    "Uh," said Bacon, "Am I supposed to be here? It seems like an awful lot of nothing..."

    "I tried to Narrate a staircase straight there. It didn't work. How odd..." He Narrated himself into a cat, then a horse, then a pigeon. "Well, that still works, at least..."

    Bacon the Bard floated in the void. "Hello?" he called. "I was promised free food..."

    There was nothing in real space to see. The dream eater latched onto Zanitar's head and began to draw him into a dream. "Bacon the Bard," declared Bacon, accepting the handshake with a whoopee cushion in his palm. "You're a villain, right?" Nogard set her down gently. "I'm glad. I... I'm glad. Er, you're not concussed, are you?" Selppaenip thought on this for a moment. "Should we... return to the battlefield to reunite with our allies?" "Onyx restrains us," spat the horde. "but he cannot restrain us forever we will break free we will destroy him" Anger still flowed from the destroyer, but he seemed... calmer. The remnants began melting into the ground. "How about I just..." Bacon paused, frowning. "Huh," he said. "That's odd."

    "We do not serve Onyx," whispered the remnants. "You could not kill us..." The anger sloshed in her, alive and burning. It began to ooze into the Threads tying Ista to Intellect and Mirth, distorting them. "Ahh...!" said Bacon. "The muffin origins?"

    The portal snapped into a view of said mountains. "Lead the way," said Bacon with a flourish and a bow. Is this the place where Beosta's school is? The anger pulsed within her as she used it, burning. He is trying to kill my friends. He is trying to kill me. I hate him. I hate I hate I hate "Ista!" cried the inspector. "Don't let it in! The rage kept flowing. The destroyer slammed against the ice. He hung from it, suspended, his empty eyes watching. He is weak. We can destroy him.

    "Indeed!" said Bacon. "And right away. We don't want Cricket's mysterious bad guy catching up to us." He snapped, and a blank portal appeared. "What were the full name of those mountains again?"

    There was nothing for miles and miles around but dead trees. There was a strange cry. A tattered black bird- a dream eater- swooped in at Zanitar. He could feel its cry tugging him towards sleep. "That's a shame. Well, to the mountains I suppose!" Hmm. I can't find a place by that description, replied the guide. I'm afraid it doesn't exist. Welcome back! "Ohoho!" said Bacon. "I don't believe we've been introduced." Nogard went slightly pink. "Ah, you're welcome. Um. You are alright, aren't you?" "I do not see the Silent Hero chasing us any longer," said Selppaenip dutifully. Anger flowed from the destroyer. And flowed. And flowed. It whispered. "do not trust them do not trust anyone they will fail you we will not fail. become United with us we will take our vengeance" No matter how hard Ista pulled, the river did not cease. "Oh my! Another villain! I suppose we had better start running."

    Nogard and Selppaenip followed. "Seems as good a plan as any. Hey, did you finish your project thing?"

    Bacon tried to remember what those were. "Can you take us with you?" asked Nogard hopefully.

    "Wait!" cried Nogard. "We... we need help." He scooped up Subversion, who seemed to have fallen subconscious. "We-we're being chased, see, a-and the OA..."

    "He will only get stronger," warned the inspector. "Anger gives him power." Blood drained away, but it didn't seem to slow the destroyer at all- the cuts were filled with red light before they had even fully opened. Green light began to seep into the Thread, holding it fast. Green crystals also began to grow around Ista's hands and feet, anchoring them in place. Orange light played around the destroyer's limbs as he dropped from faster-than-blinking to a paltry quick. His blade, which was outlined faintly in gold, struck out at Ista's heart. "you are strong," whispered the remnant, "but only with borrowed power."

    "No!" cried Nogard, swinging his spear uselessly through the space where Falvan was mere moments before. He fell to his knees. What were they going to do now? Is Arranis still there? Or Desolation? @Scars of Hathsin @Aeoryi The zombies pounded on the dome with mighty force, heedless of whether or not they succeeded. The destroyer attacked once more, moving faster than the blink of an eye. "Which mountains?" asked Bacon. "You mean these mountains?" Bacon helped everyone disconnect from their pigeons.

    X's avatar fell to Melody's side, barely daring to breathe. No. It couldn't be. She couldn't be... There. A pulse. He let out a shuddering breath. But it was faint. Too faint. It hardly seemed like she was there at all. In fact... X's avatar reached out with his mind, confirming his suspicions. "She's been taken to the Land of Dreams," he said grimly. Nameless frowned. "The... what?" "A place of pure Light, just as the Void is a place of pure Darkness. In it is contained everything that ever was." "A place of pure Light? That doesn't sound too bad," Nameless remarked. "Should we be concerned?" "Yes. Not everything that ever was is nice. And besides, there are... rules. You can't bring things back from there, not if they belong there. Melody doesn't, not right now, but if she's away from her body for too long..." Nameless nodded, understanding. "So how do we get there?" "That's the problem." X's avatar clenched his fist and slammed it against the ground. "There are a few ways, but they all take too long. If we don't get to her before some of the nastier things in there do..." He couldn't finish the thought. "There has to be a way," insisted Nameless. "We're Narrators! Nothing's impossible." X's avatar gazed at Melody. It looked... wrong, for her to be so still, all her life and energy gone. He couldn't let her die. No matter what. He lifted his head, making eye contact with Nameless. "There is one way," he whispered.

    I guess I'll leave it undecided for now. "So," said Bacon. "Now what?" "No!" cried Nogard. The crystals continued to grow towards him, but slower. It seemed the destroyer's attention was focused elsewhere. Nogard strained against the wind, summoning his spear in an attempt to block Falvan 's attack. "You are trying to touch his soul?" The inspector seemed disturbed. "Be very careful, Ista- if your soul is touching his, then his is touching yours." So she's trying to connect to Onyx? Orange light played around the zombies. Several began to make powerful leaps up to the platform.

    The destroyer swung his blade at her chest and was knocked away. He opened his eyes. Where they should be was only void. A blue light shine through, analyzing Ista's Thread. "Do you think you can defeat him?" asked the inspector. Meanwhile, the zombies had nearly dragged Tull beneath the soil. Bacon followed, having either collected Ciara's soul or not.

    The destroyer paused, momentarily, as if perplexed, then his eyes glowed with purple light. Ista felt a pull on her soul. It whispered. Join us. Become one. Unity is strength. Strength is Unity. "Wait, what?" exclaimed Bacon. "You just... killed her?" Bacon reached out to her soul as it fled, attempting to catch it.

    That makes sense. It would be kind of a problem for an Ennuller to go around making withergeists. The ice lacerated the destroyer, but red light oozed from his wounds. In moments he was whole. He raised his hand and a pulse of white summoned Ista to that location.

    Erif blinked. Right. Of course. He teleported inside Ista's globe. "Oh," said the inspector. "Is it... wise, to anger him?" The destroyer vanished in a flash of black, appearing inside the dome with his arm reaching for Ista's neck. Er, that would be... difficult, after being killed by a withergeist.

    That is the bite of a withergeist, telepathed Bacon. A corruptive power of Chaotic Darkness that spreads until it consumes entirely. A terrible way to go, I've been told.

    The Ennuller the group met reported that Ciara died in that invasion. The backstory that was intended to support was that Ciara faked her death so that she could go do her own thing. But that doesn't have to be true if you don't want it to be. Green crystals sprung up from the ground towards Zanitar.

    Ciara would have experience with withergeists and their corruptive abilities, presuming she was around for the Witherlord's most recent assault.
