Mindscaping? thought Jeffery, intrigued. He'd never heard of that before, but it sounded like... well, best not to get his hopes up too much. Even so, he made a mental note to ask about it during a less chaotic time. "A withergeist," said Jeffery. "You wouldn't happen to be familiar with them, would you? They're a type of energy spirit involved with destruction and decay. Powerful weapons in the right hands- such as, I suspect, those of our pursuer."
-
Maolg bounded across the landscape eagerly as his targets came within visibility. They'd been moving plenty fast, but not faster than him- and they'd stopped to take several breaks. His bonded withergeist let out a shriek of pleasure, flapping its tattered wings to keep aloft in the air besides him. The sound rang out across the landscape and echoed in the group's ears. "Oh, dear," said Jeffery, who recognized exactly what the call signified. "This is not good."

"That's just the thing, though," said James. "There's no wind in here, so Fate can't talk to me directly. I'm... kind of on my own." -

"You don't know him?" said Chakra, surprised. "He's pretty famous. He goes around getting cursed by people and then he kills them."

"Thanks," said James gratefully, drying himself off with it. "Much obliged." He finished quickly and handed the towel back. "Now- is there any way I can stay here without being a guest?" @Channelknight Fadran -
This was unfortunate. Aridith had been rather looking forward to having a weapon of such capabilities on his side. Perhaps he could bring back Nathrangking? He sent out a quick blue inquiry to ascertain the man's location. A few small inquiries later, he noticed something alarming - a blitae, hot on the tail of Nath and his comrades. Well, so much for that, thought Aridith, letting the thought fade from his mind. The last thing he wanted to do was mess with the Witherlord. He'd just have to make do with what he had. To be fair, Baalhan was still plenty powerful without his spells. Aridith had, after all, been planning to move ahead before he'd even become aware that Baalhan existed. The addition of an extra fighter would not unduly alter the plan. The power that Baalhan had wielded certainly was singular, however. Given that further blue inquiries into the mechanisms behind the power were proving fruitless... the only thing he could suppose was that Narration had to be involved in some way. Whatever it was, though, it was a moot point. Both Baalhan and Nath were claimed by members of the few powers that Aridith feared. Their parts in his plan were finished.

"I've been worse," said James. "You wouldn't happen to have something I can use to dry my glasses with, would you?" -
In an instant, the onslaught vanished, along with the power supporting it. Aridith allowed himself a small smile of satisfaction. A moment later, the smile vanished as he realized that that wasn't the only support that had vanished. A quick blue inquiry confirmed that yes, the enemy had destroyed the foundations of the Outpost. Pretty vindictive, thought Aridith, destroying an entire city just to get to me. Luckily for the Hyxali of the outpost, he had an interest in keeping it standing. With a not insignificant amount of effort, he pulled power from the zombie population, using it to form black vines around the major supports of the outpost. That should hold it until the Hyxali fix it, he thought, grunting slightly with the effort. Which wouldn't be very long- Hyxali were fantastic workers. Already he could tell that the job was nearly a quarter done. I wonder if I can hurry it along, he thought all of a sudden, remembering his new acquisition. Surely Baalhan had to have a spell for repairing things. A quick blue inquiry confirmed and provided him with the spell, and a few moments later Baalhan was rattling it out. But nothing happened. That's odd, thought Aridith, making another blue inquiry. Moments later, the answer came to him. The spells were supposed to be natural magic, supported by the fabric of the world- except that they weren't. Not in Universe Hexagon, at any rate. In fact, the only reason the spells had worked at all was because of Baalhan's presence - and, apparently, that of his comrade Nathrangking. And not just the presence of the body, either; presence of mind was required as well.

"Huh," said James to himself. "So... I am supposed to stay? But not be a guest?" James let out a yelp as the pool water washed over him and knocked him to the floor. He pulled himself to his feet, sputtering and gasping. "Well," he said after he'd caught his breath, "at least it wasn't too cold." He removed his glasses and tried to wipe them on his shirt before realizing that his shirt was wet, too. He sighed. This was not exactly turning out to be a great day. -

"Hmm..." said James, looking critically at the few sticks of wood. "I don't think this'll be enough for a casting. Guess I'll just have to make do with a flip." He held a matchstick out. "What was the question again...? Oh, right- should I become a guest here? Flame end towards me for yes, away for no." He tossed the match into the air and let it tumble down onto the table between them. It pointed directly towards Tina. "Guess that settles that, then," said James apologetically. "Sorry I can't stay- this inn seems fascinating. Anyways, perhaps you could tell-" The match suddenly burst into flame. -
