  1. The advisor turned a corner briskly. A few moments later, the wall slid shut behind them.
  2. The Gray Man looked up at Ellis's exclamation. He cocked his head in curiosity. A couple of revenants started towards Ellis.
  3. The revenants' gazes are unfocused, but not mindless. They do not register Ellis staring at them, however.
  4. The advisor stopped at a seemingly innocuous section of hallway and tapped out a rhythm on the stones. He paused for a few moments, nodded, and continued at a brisk pace.
  5. Ellis arrives in time to see a grey-skinned figure drop a corpse to the ground. It stands up and shuffles behind him, joining the small crowd of undead the figure has already managed to create. As Ellis watches, he grabs a person huddling in fear and begins to drain the life-force from them.
  6. At that moment, the screams began.
  7. Yeah, it doesn't last for very long. Only a couple moments.
  8. The surge wasn't just a one-off thing.
  9. The advisor said nothing, merely led the way down to the dungeons.
  10. It's essentially the same thing as the last surge, just a little more involved.
  11. Nobody tried to use the quarter in a vending machine.
  12. The images flickered too fast for Ellis to make anything out, each one pulling a bit of power from him- Until it was done.
  13. The advisor shrugged. "Very well. If it is your desire to leave the resolution of the situation to others, you need not come."
  14. X pondered the inclusion of the term "normal".
  15. "The dungeon. And what lies beneath."
  16. "The place where this world began," explained the woman. The amulet surged with furious power, sending images flickering through Ellis's mind.
  17. The advisor pressed his lips together. "No," he said. "You are not." He considered for a moment, then turned around and strode out of the room. "Come with me," he stated.
  18. "You will have to learn, then," said the woman. The amulet twitched in Ellis's pocket.
  19. "Prepare," said the woman simply. "The Dark Lord will soon rise." There was a moment of silence. "Well," said Gerald, "We'd better find the world's origin before then. It's not good to leave a bargain with Fate hanging." The woman blinked. "You wish to go to the Origin? I can lead you there if you wish."
  20. "If it is not immediately apparent, it is because the mantle has yet to be fully realized by its inheritor."
  21. "A luxury that your ancestors decided could not be enjoyed, if the world were to remain whole."
  22. "Your family seized power from the Sturmjoln's two hundred years ago, after a civil war had left the land in ruin," explained the advisor. "This much is common knowledge. What is not, however, is what was done to the remnants of the formerly ruling house. Due to the power inherent to the bloodline, it was decided that the best course of action was total extermination."
