  1. The corpses appeared suddenly and with little warning, clawing their way down the alleyway. Grace gasped, backing away. @Channelknight Fadran @Mystic Syn
  2. Grace looked up sharply. "What is going on?" she inquired.
  3. "Well... where is he now? Is he not here anymore?"
  4. "It would have to be willing," the Wanderer replied. "X did not seem too happy to see the Witherlord in the flashback... and I suspect if such an arrangement had been made, the tree would not look like this. Besides, X is noncorporeal and the Witherlord is currently most definitely not." She sighed. "Although who knows, at this point? I'm not sure how confident I am in X's noncorporeality anymore, after seeing this..." "Wait," 655 interjected. "Was X... here?"
  5. The Wanderer blinked. Then blinked again. "Say what?"
  6. "I mean-" the Wanderer hmmed. "It shouldn't be possible, technically. X doesn't have a physical presence. He's more of a living concept than an entity. And yet..."
  7. The Wanderer frowned, touching the tree. Light flashed at her fingertips and in her eyes and she yelped, pulling her fingers away as if burned. "Memories," she said.
  8. The past, answered the survey. "What was what?" asked the Wanderer.
  9. The clearing is still and undisturbed. No corpses line the floor; no scars line the walls. -then-then-then- The armies of X face <the figure shrouded in mist>. They are as helpless as the sand against the coming tide. X wants to know why? -then-again-then- The Witherlord looks at <the army>. He sees <the tree>. This is the end.
  10. The survey was unsettled. "It's important, that's all I know," 655 answered. "And X's avatar came here before disappearing... I guess that's kind of obvious."
  11. It was pain. The Wanderer shook her head. "Where even is this place?"
  12. As the group approached the tree, they saw its scars more clearly. It wasn't pretty. The tree's bark and flesh was splintered as well as charred, as if whatever had struck it had also blown it to pieces. The tree's glow - for it was glowing, just like the threads that filled the sky - was flickering haphazardly, like a dying man's breath. Fallen leaves lined the floor, marked also with withered blackness. The survey felt... something.
  13. *shifts guiltily with voidspren gem*
  14. 655 looked longingly at the exit and sighed. Then he turned and began walking towards the tree.
  15. The Wanderer frowned. "What could this mean...?" Her eyes were drawn to the tree on the other side of the field. Tall and majestic- but with a huge black scar straight through the center. The survey noted that something felt familiar.
  16. Before the Wanderer could respond, 655 spoke up. "Uh," he said. "Who are... those?" He stood at the crest of a small hill, looking forwards. Before him stretched a vast plane, covered with the bodies of the fallen. All of which were, unmistakably, X's avatar.
  17. "These are very old," the Wanderer countered. "Whatever created them is likely long gone."
  18. The Wanderer knelt down. "Again," she said. "Withergeist marks. He was killed by Chaotic Darkness."
  19. The hole ran downwards and downwards. Its walls were blackened and charred like a burn wound. Abruptly, it ended. Beyond it was a vast cavern filled with glittering threads. The Wanderer stood still for a moment, mesmerized. "Incredible," she whispered. 655 swallowed and pointed. "Um... who's that?" In front of them, sprawled on the ground, was X's avatar. Dead.
  20. "We will see, I suppose..." said the Wanderer, stepping forwards into the gaping hole.
  21. "I will give you purpose far beyond your wildest imaginings," spoke the Queen, extending a long, pale arm and placing it on the Corpse's head. There was a flash of dark as they were transported elsewhere.
