[OB] Jasnah Kholin Appreciation Thread
Egomere replied to Stromblessed's topic in Stormlight Archive
I took that the mention of her family was because of what happened after the event and how they 'treated' her (locked her up) and she felt like she was being ignored and maltreated by her family in order to 'fix' her 'lunacy'. - This could have come from having been molested - broken, bonded with Ivory and then how Gavilar and her family didn;t believe her story about what had happened and so thought she was fitting / mentally unstable and dealt with it badly - leaving her to feel neglected. Although I think there's alot about Gavilar we have yet to find out about - and I suspect it's that it turns out he's not been the person Dalinar thinks he was... although so far in BS works when has that not been applicable to almost any character. -
It is a good point but I think due to the split of the series I think it's going to be 2 distinct story archs. The first (obvs) 1 - 5 and dealing with Odium on Roshar... the second 15 years later Roshar time but it begins to include the rest of the Cosmere and jumping around planets (with surviving people we know and love from 1 - 5 ) Because I believe BS has said that all the Cosmere works will slowly perculate into 1 finale and I reckon 5 - 10 of SA won't be the Finale but will certainly lead to it and the characters leading to the Mistborn Space opera thingy (which also includes Hoid as a large part I think) Then again I could be wrong.

[OB] Jasnah Kholin Appreciation Thread
Egomere replied to Stromblessed's topic in Stormlight Archive
@mariapapadia Yaep Jasnah definately developed into a proper person in my eyes this book (and it was proably one of the better parts of OB). In TWoK and WoR she just seemed too focused and driven; 1 goal and damnation everything else. Now seeing how she has started... not to open up and lose focus but defiantely showing she is a 3d character than and has more aspects to her than previously shown. banter with Kaladin, awesome battle skills, and yes that Verbal evisceration and lambasting of the Roshar second worst person was brilliant. And I have an unfounded suspicion that maybe that jaunt she took Shallan in Kharbranth was not only due to wanting to make a teachable moment and get rid of some nasty people but also because of what happened to her as a child - then she was powerless to stop it - now she's not and maybe she gets a cathartic release (she can't punish whoever hurt her for whatever reason but she can others / prevent like situations happening to others - all logical above board.) -
I think I agree and could easily see Taln following Ash - whether they were a genuine couple before hand or whether he cared for Ash yet unreciprocated wouldn't matter. I could see him forcing himself into the pact in order to keep a protective eye on Ash.

With the current availble info. I would guess she was talking about Glys; but it may have been Son not in the literal sense but in a metaphorical sense due to her having corrupted him. This I feel would fit with the fact although Renarin has a corrupted spren he isn't actively working for Odium - I feel due to seeing the visions of the 'future' is was because of despair that he didn't do anything and then due to Jasnah sparing him he realised he'd been 'taken' in by Odium - explaining his ambivalence and failure to warn people. So Sja-anat was telling Shallan to talk to Glys because although he is 'corrupted' he's not a voidspren dominated by Odium.
-
@The Invested Beard Well I will definately lay money down on the fact that is Spren is the Sibling but whether it's Cuis I'm not sure. Especially as we don't know the identity of the last Unmade (who could be Cuis or Dal-gon pretending to be Cuis or a number of any others. Need more info - or preferably Book 4 and 5

But is Cusicesh male or female? Because as I said I'm sure the Stormfather calls the sibling female...

[OB] Poll: Which news will the coalition take worse?
Egomere replied to WhiteLeeopard's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm not sure I can choose - I mean all of them could have some Serious repercusions and anyone of them could lead to the coalition falling apart. I'm not even sure that it would be better or worse if they are revealed over time or all at once... As I said all of them could screw with any aspect of the coalition as we know it... although Jasnah as Regent-Queen could probably handle them. -
6-8/10 Enjoyable with some highly amusing parts all around (from Pattern, to Kaladin and Jasnah banter, to shadesmar Syl) and some genuine awesome moments (Dalinar semi-ascending, Jasnah on the battlefield, Nightblood. But felt a bit lacking in certain areas that weren't quite what I expected of BS so someparts were good some not so much - but I felt pumped during the confrontation scenes but then the ending was a let down due to a few reasons... really hate waiting for the installment in a series of books anyway so all the answered questions I have to wait to get answers for always bugs me.

@Steeldancer Wasn't dissing Taln (i mean i think it would be awesome if he was a genuine nobody before and then it turns out not only is he a great character he was also the dude that showed up all the other supposedly amazing heralds by never have been broken even after 4500 years in Braize alone + all the previous years. I just don't know what he could have done before the pact to be the one who Should never have been...
-
Not at all accurate theory : Taln was just a bum at the beginning of the first oathpact and had been trying to ask Jezrien for a bit of change or some stale bread when Honour appeared and was like 'Hey Jez great work gathering the best and brightest people in the realm lets get cracking' *proceeds to empower them as Heralds and create Honourblades with Taln getting caught up in the Invesiture ritual.* Serious Theory : Hmm not sure. I imagine he may have just been a lower slave or something - Jexrien gathered people he thought were right for the job due to devotion to Honour, martial, technical skills (like Taln talks about how each herald will teach people certain things (like soulcasting bronze cos steel would take to long and tactics.) Taln was no-one special or important - maybe 'involved' with Ash who had been picked because she was Jez's daughter or something... will think more and edit again accordingly.

Radient : "But I'm not your wife" Adolin : "Well send out Shallan" Veil : "She's doing her hair... very important stuff" Adolin : "Well is dinner ready at least?" Radient : "It was logical for me to eat alone earlier as Veil has work to do tonight"...

[OB] House Sadeas & Adolin's Murder Consequences
Egomere replied to KidWayne's topic in Stormlight Archive
Does acting with Passion / Hatred instantly open you up to Odium influence though or does Odium have to have an active role in 'priming' people (like with the thrill and alethi in general leading to Dalinar. I mean on Adolins behalf it was proably a 1 time deal - but will that make him susceptible to future manipulation by Adolin (even if this time ist wasn't). And despite not having seen the consequnces yet I would have said I hope there were - glossing over it would be a bad thing for people trying to hold to honour beat a near god strength shard of evil intent. Something needs to happen politically imo. -
Yaep know how you feel... like running out of stormlight after running the highstorm... that plummeting feeling when you realise it's never going to happen (it being meaningful interaction between Kal and Shal...

Don't forget Drawer 10-12, sapphire (Windrunners) My spren claims that this recording will be good for me, so here I go. Everyone says I will swear the Fourth Ideal soon, and in so doing, earn my armor. I simply don’t think that I can. Am I not supposed to want to help people? This really implies that it's not always about protecting people (or everyone) which is why I made my previous posts in the vein of having to chose not to protect everyone for some reason or another...

[OB] Which death took you most by surprise?
Egomere replied to dantlee's topic in Stormlight Archive
Mine... on a serious note Amaram - not that he died but more who killed him - the fact Rock did so. -
I think he was already King (or certainly high up). I mean we got some hints when his family arrived and (can't quote from book - and too lazy to find it atm) he seems to feel happy that they arrived (and he was able to save them obvs.) but sad that Bridge Four would find out he had lied about alot. And when talking to his wife? he says something like "I should Never have let HORNEATER NAME go / try" - now if the person he let 'lead' the expedition was security distraction and a brother of his surely that could mean he Could have stopped his bro from trying to win the shards. We have alot to learn about Rock and his background... - will try to dig out the exchange I'm talking about in a bit so highlight the part i'm talking about.

@mariapapadia Your post was fantastic. Defninately dissappointed over the whole triangle. As I've said in previous posts - it wasn;t that Shallan and Adolin got together it's just how it was done. Felt so unnaturally forced with Kaladin and Shallan having almost no page time to address how they feel. (and the thing is I'm quite happy they didn't get together - it's just how Shallan chose to Adolin after deliberately avoiding and 'repressing' / shunting feelings for Kaladin to Veil. It didn't feel like she was making a choice per se (how can a choice of 1 be choice?) I mean ok so Kaladin feels better around Shallan - that's cool but why did BS not give them time to work out they care for each other as friends not actually romantic love. After having the Chasm scene they seemed to go from potential friends / more to nothing at all (and it's almost all Shallan's fault for the lack of interaction.) Well to be fair he still might... I mean I'm not entirely sure how it would work but if he is able to revive Mara? eventually he could become and edgedancer (was Mara an edgedancer's blade previously? If he does revive her and that allows him to start on the path of a radient that would add an extra layer into the Shadolin mix. I mean we really don't know if the wedding was the end or not yet.
-
hmmm all I know for sure is that the Stormfather seems to care for her (because he tells Dalinar that your've hurt her too much already) then refuses to talk more.
-
@Blacksmithki @ADIMORTIS ah right thank for the info. the honourblades go over my head as to which are around and whose is whose...

I thought Taln's blade was the one Dalinar had hidden and was then stolen by the parshendi and given to Moash...

@PlanetReelo And Adolin definately comes accross as a playboy type person doesn't he having seemingly dated the entirety of Alethei lighteyed daughters before meeting Shallan. Add in BS overuse of arranged marrige this I can imagine would make your reading the book twice as hard with prolonged headaches....

[OB] Jasnah Kholin Appreciation Thread
Egomere replied to Stromblessed's topic in Stormlight Archive
I enjoyed the moajority of her scenes in previous books but now she really came into her own and she was fantastic. even joking with Kaladin... really can't wait to see the results of her first year as Alethi Queen come book 4. I imagine she'll have bullied roughshod over most of the remaining countries governments as well... also : I am worried about the revelations of her past but I guess we might have to wait till her book in the back 5 (i'm pretty sure she's going to get one right?) -
[OB] - The Cosmeric implications of Oathbringer's ending
Egomere replied to rdog2213's topic in Stormlight Archive
Hmmm you mean the Unite them wasn't talking about the Rosharian People or even the three realms but potentially talking about the very Shards themselves? or maybe just the three on Roshar to become like Harmony? I would place money on the fact that he takes Honour's power but overides it to Unity intent but maybe in the future he can do so with Odium and Cultivation as well?...- 69 replies

This. The Shallan that has been getting to know Adolin (during the courtship) is yet another personna. - During the fight she creates many potential illusions of herself (and others) to use as distractions. Remember when Jasnah goes to fetch her - takes 'Shallan' by the hand and she pops - forcing Jasnah to take Radient? This happens IMO becasue none of the personnas are the real Shallan - she remembers Wit's words but hasn't actually processed them correctly - she keeps forcing parts of her into each personna. (like how she feels for Kaladin into Veil). And the Shallan 'popping' is showing how flimsy that personna is as well. Now the problem I have is not that Shallan chose Adolin but because of how the choice was depicted so far. I'm not sure that Kaladin would have been a better choice or even a more honest one - I just don't believe BS did his best work in how he went about it. As in my earlier post it felt forced as BS didn't give half as much time for Kaladin to talk to Shallan at all in comparission to Shadolin onpage time (and even that was split between all three personnas - 2 of which didn't like Adolin as the choice). So I do hope that the two of them can work the marrige thing out but I feel Shallan has regressed (like @PhineasGage says) and is heading for a major disaster and probably sooner rather than later that the marriage might very well exacerbate the matters rather than helping. (although if it does I'm all for it - and I hope it work out for the two of them I just can't currently see it ending well with how I see Shallan's position atm.
