plague doctors are so wild

like, it feels like fan fiction

if it turned out that plague doctors were caused by some time traveler frickery, i wouldn't be surprised

but like, i swear it feels like fan fiction. or something similar. no no no no no wait, it feels like fan theories. Like the stuff we do here. Like, we take what we know about this fantasy world, and extrapolate to invent our own technologies. Like when we theorize about possible fabrials or medalion contraptions. we have a set mythos, and extrapolate to make new conclusions.

they had a mythos too, about what prevented germs. oh, these strong-smelling herbs prevent disease? well, what if we stick em in a mask so that we're constantly breathing them in! oh wait! what if we light them on fire too so that they smell even stronger!!!! that would work even better!!

thinking about it more, i guess this is just sorta, how new technologies arise. like, in the real world, with real science =P
it just feels super strange with plague doctors because of how completely wrong they were, so it feels like fiction. because it was. they just didn't know it.
