I personally think they're more likely to be gems containing lesser voidspren. 

Are the sprenmoticons in my sig visible to everyone else? Or do they just show up as links? If they do show up as links, could someone tell me how to make them appear as emotes?

Though I disagree with the actions of both the Liebrary and the DA, I too will follow this movement to return that most elegant and enlightened garment into vogue.

If I recall correctly(been a while since I read Era One) Sazed taps a lot of weight to hold a gate at one point(to hold back a Koloss army?) and during that scene, he is much slower and less agile than he normally would be. This suggests that the reinforcement isn't directly proportional to the change in weight.

Though the device almost certainly works on similar principles to Allomantic bronze

As has been stated above, being a Pinnacle has useful applications when it comes to learning new skills. Careful application of this ability can make you almost as good at studying and memorizing as an Archivist, with other physical applications, like being able to exercise and practice longer.

Only the Set has voice communications, but telegrams are common, as shown by the bank scene. I can't find the WoB, but in a 2011/2012 thing, Brandon said they didn't have telegrams and instead used Coinshot couriers. 

There's also a WoB that says Scadrial doesn't have telecommunications. This is probably a good idea.

I believe something more on the order of crossbow would be more on the level required. Bullets would simply be too fast to do this accurately. Even with something less energetic, calibrating such a device would be very difficult.
