  1. "Not specific. Only that eyes see." He replied, pointing to his eyes when he said the word 'eyes.' He wasn't sure if he should add that she could heal from stormlight as that may be a secret to the woman, but it could also speed-up her recovery.
  2. As they reached the room, Deras set the injured woman down to where the doctor indicated and stepped back, eyes looking from the woman, to the doctor, to the environment. He wasn't too sure what else to do or if he could still help. "Can help?" He asked the doctor.
  3. A large man in a worn cloak and pants burst through the door, carrying a wounded woman, using his legs to kick the hospital's door open without breaking them. "Need heal." He said in a deep voice, but not inhumanly so. "Woman injured." He added as he walked inside. The man himself was grey, almost like a corpse and without colour. He wasn't panting though he traveled far in a sprint.
  4. There was a war? Who was fighting? And why? These were questions his curiousity brought up, but they weren't important right now. He nodded. "Understood. You point way." Deras lowered his arms and waited for the woman to get up. When she did she stumbled but caught herself on the wall. That wouldn't do. "Need carry. Will be faster." The Lifeless approached which made the woman flinch. He hesitated. "No hurt, just carry." with that, the woman nodded and Deras picked her up. She was surprisingly light, though that might have been because of his immense strength that he still did not know how he had. As he picked up the woman and turned to leave, he felt the invisible presence flit by. It seemed to be the woman's companion whatever it was. As they arrived by the bunker's hatch, he stopped for a while. How was he to get both of them up if he was carrying the woman? He could try jumping the elevation, he had immense lifting and gripping strength, so it stands to reason that he also had higher leaps from the strength. He crouched slightly and after making sure that woman would be hit by the ceiling —or floor— by the opening, he jumped. Both of them sailed through the air and cleared the hatch easily. Deras felt the ceiling hit him in the back of his head, but it didn't hurt and the woman wasn't hit either. That was the structure's ceiling! The jump was definitely high. They got outside the structure and he started jogging, then running. As he suspected even just running he was inhumanly fast as well. "Need directions." He said as he ran. The woman pointed a direction and Deras charged there, fast, but still careful not to accidentally trip or hit the woman on random debris around.
  5. The Lifeless nodded at the woman. "How arrive there?" He looked at her, realizing she might still not be fit for walking, he asked: "Need carry?" gesturing his arms in a carrying motion. "Know where is hospital?" He didn't know how much the stormlight had helped her, but he knew that it wasn't enough, hopefully she wasn't in too bad of a condition.
  6. He thought for a bit and looked around, he saw the small marble-like objects around which he figured were the spheres the woman meant, none of them were glowing though. "Understood." He said before leaving the room. The spheres, she could harness this 'stormlight' and use it somehow? He was unsure of how to go about finding spheres that were filled with these, before realizing: There is something within him that enables him to detect presence, or life, or such, this might be used to also feel exactly where concentrations of stormlight are given her description of it. He breathed another unnecessary breath and closed his eyes, he still felt the people's presence as before, though there was a difference with the injured woman's presence, possibly because she was already awake. There was something else though, something fainter and he couldn't tell the exact location, but it was there. It felt like a smell, only instead of the nose it was felt by the skin. Deras followed his metaphorical nose, going one way if the feeling was getting stronger, and the other way if it was getting weaker. Like a game of hot or cold. He finally found a small room with different shelves and drawers, likely just for storage. He went over to where the feeling guided him, to one of the drawers and opened it. There he found four spheres with different colored gemstones in the middle, they were glowing, but faintly. He could see a slight amount of light trailing very small wisps into the air, and he confirmed that these were what he was feeling. He retrieved the four spheres and made his way back to the room where the woman was. "Found." he said as he stretched his hands to the woman, the four spheres in hand. "Hope these are right ones."
  7. "Not friend," he began, "but not enemy." He didn't even know who Devaan was. He remembered proper grammar and syntax now, but he didn't need to use it. If he could use less words and still be understood, why not be efficient? He did however, not know what stormlight was. "Storm...light? ...what is?" He asked.
  8. Deras heard the cough and another sound so he went to its source, it was the wounded woman. "Aid, need?" he asked quietly, and with little fore-thought this time. "What problem?" he was sure now that what he felt was concern.
  9. The Lifeless saw the injured woman talk to nothing that he could see, but he did feel something there, an invisible presence that he felt moving about as she finished speaking. He approached where the woman was, but not too close, or close at all, he knew people did not like being approached much by those they've yet to know. Just close enough to hear: "Awake?" He asked. No answer. Asleep. He thought. The rate at which he was learning —or re-learning, as it were— the concepts and terms like wakefulness and sleep was remarkable, even the very fact that he thought and new that it was remarkable was itself remarkable. Though he was getting a bit bored seemingly. He had the urge to sit even though his legs weren't even tired, and more so, the urge to experiment with what he could do. If he was immensely strong and had keen senses, maybe there was something else he could do? He breathed an unnecessary breath and closed his eyes, there was nothing... then, He felt it, he could sense four presences in the immediate area, more than that he could feel them, one was the injured woman two were somewhere in a lower level, he suspected it was the duo he met earlier. And a last was inside the structure as well, but on the same level as them, their signature was similar to the woman currently sleeping, so they must also be sleeping or also injured. He did not know this final presence, so he went over where they were and saw another woman, or a girl, more appropriately. She was much younger than the woman below and was also asleep. Deras returned to where he was previously, not wanting to wake people so he could sate his slight boredom, and stood, continuing to wait. Perhaps it was his concern for this injured woman? Perhaps he was still curious as to what the place, the whole place, was for, not just the bunker? Perhaps he could train his patience while waiting.
  10. As the two stepped out the hallway, Deras stood waiting, and looked over the woman. Her chest heaved: Breathing, a sign of life. She was... unconscious? He studied her wounds, there seemed to be different kinds of wounds, some where the skin was cut open and was slightly bleeding, some were discolored patches of skin, and others were crusted over skin. He continued to stare at her injuries curiously, but did not move from his spot.
  11. The man repeated his question for some reason, though Deras caught the man's previous lines of questions: Where did you come from? "Came from stone structure, wooden table. I strapped." He said before remembering a word: "Was. Was strapped on table." Who sent you? "I..." he said. "Sent by... I... myself. Wandered here." What is your purpose? That gave him pause. What was his purpose? That was exactly what he asked himself, and for some reason, this game him significant distress. "I... purpose..." He muttered, a bit strained. "Not know... my... purpose." He inhaled air. Though he didn't need to breathe, this seemed to help calm him and disperse his distress.
  12. Deras saw the small gesture and interpreted that as telling him to follow. And he did. The Lifeless man was the last to enter the bunker and he saw a woman resting, she was battered and wounded, and it roused an emotion in him. Pity? Concern? "What... happen woman?" Or 'happened' as it were, since he just remembered the past tense. He felt that there were some words missing from the sentence, but the general idea should have been communicated properly enough. "What... is place?" He looked around. He remembered a word to put between 'is' and 'place.' "This." he muttered.
  13. The Lifeless stared at the man with his weapons out. He still wasn't adept at speaking, but words seemed to be coming back, and he could understand the man well enough. He gestured to himself: "Deras." He answered the first question, but the second was more complicated, he could almost feel his mind turning as it searched for words, terms, and answers for it. "I..." He remembered the first person and its pronouns. Though he remembered some words, he was still re-developing usage of language fairly fast. "I... wander here." He said as more words and meanings came into his head, almost a full grammatical syntax. "Was... curious."
  14. Let's say you (iron) spike 2 Koloss into a human host, would that human then have the strength of those two Koloss? (or the equivalent of 8 human-strength iron spikes) And would that mean there's less spirit web damage since the host is being pierced with only 2 spikes?
  15. "W..." Deras started, the shadow of a word forming in his head. W... "Wait...!" He finally yelled, and moved to open the hatch. It was stuck, but he pried at it and the hatch came lose quickly. He dropped into the hatch and yelled out again: "Wait!" He started walking forward inside the corridor path.
  16. Deras stood back from the hatch and waited for any sort of response. His keen ears picked up some subtle sound which was slowly getting louder. Someone was approaching from inside the hidden path.
  17. Curiousity, and some other feeling, —perhaps it was boredom?— got the better of Deras and he wandered close to the structure. His keener ears heard noises coming from the inside, like shuffling and speaking, so he opened the door and went in wordlessly. Inside, he didn't see the people, but he still heard them so he followed the noise to a room with an open hatch on the floor. He didn't want to startle them, was there some way for him to call there attention? A noise? He knew there was some way to make noises with a part of his body... His mouth! He made a small noise, testing the waters, before crouching down the open hatch and yelling in monotone: "Aaaaa." The noise reverberated through the hidden path. His voice was deeper than average but not inhumanly so.
  18. A man in a brown, shoddy cloak and worn pants stepped onto the training grounds. His skin contrasted with his clothes, being a dull grey as if the color was sucked out of it. A Lifeless. Or specifically, his name was Deras, as he had taken to calling himself. He looked around and saw a structure, but no one around. He didn't know what this place was or at all what was happening so he just stood and waited.
  19. Alright, so it's likely not what I'm thinking of, which was a thing called Roko's Basilisk, the whole 'danger' on that is knowing exactly what it is, but I don't really think it's much bad. There are certain parts of it that I can tell you without triggering the memetic effects like: It involves a clone or likeness of you being super tortured in the far future, the reason for exactly why or what is the memetic hazard, but the logic of the hazard only works if you consider that far future clone actually you in the metaphysical sense (or such), so feel free to google the hazard if you don't think that. @FRedgli (were you thinking of this too?) @Storyspren Cool that you got into SCP, but the memetic hazard I was talking about (which I explained partially above) was a real life thing, not just from SCP. It's not as potent as the memetics in SCP tho definitely Yeah, I don't think I have much more on this theory, and I don't wanna discuss this here so that it doesn't go off topic too far.
  20. @Storyspren Unsure, but the way you're dancing around naming the theory seems to imply it's related to that one real memetic 'hazard' thing which I won't name in full in case people don't want to get memetic'd (obviously this is just gonna spark more curiousity)
  21. @Unlicensed Hemalurgist That's an interesting system, I figure Kinbinders aren't widespread based on your explanation of the world's history? @Ripheus23 Thats real cool, it sounds like it's set in a more urban fantasy setting? I do like how developed the world is
  22. @Kureshi Ironclaw Ah I see, nice nice @_Tempus_ Echo is recharged over time pretty much as Echo is in Seyr's (their planet) atmosphere, and the Echo in the atmosphere is recharged by things called worldbeats which are basically tremors that start and stop very quickly, but happen every few days, though they don't know that's what worldbeats do, they just know worldbeats happen Resonators don't feel the worse effects of lacking Echo unless they use it for really big displays of power, or use it for a very extended amount of time, so Resonators can fight in battles and as long as they don't really lower their reserves, they won't feel the negative effects The user doesn't forget how they've Forged something, just certain aspects of the thing they Forged based on which of the three sub-systems they used, since it's directly to fuel the effects they produce, like the effects are literally created from memory. Like with Image Forge, the user will only forget what their Forged thing can do, but nothing else, so if they drew and summon something like a gun with a sword attached to it, they'll forget that the gun can fire bullets (and forget exactly how to fire bullets) and the sword can slash things. A way to get around this is to pre-summon things if the user knows they're getting into a battle and rediscovering what that thing does, since they can't summon it a full day prior since the Image Forged thing has to constantly retake the same memories every few hours to keep itself from disappearing hmm, Givers and Melters seem to be more powerful than the other three classes of Vibrance users, is there some way to counteract Vibrance effects? Or perhaps the CharacDust that they ingest distracts them from battle too much by providing a high? It's cool though because this system really lends itself to good world building, are Vibrance users outcasts or exulted? How easy is CharaDust to come by? Cool stuff!
  23. @Ripheus23 Spellmasonry sounds great (both the name and the system) shame it's already used by another work as you said. What's the difference between that and Trigonomancy (or is that just an alternate name)? And are there things like spellcities? @Kureshi Ironclaw That's pretty cool, do the Class 1 powers interact like the Class 2's, or just as individual elemental powers? (like Earth/Air does have a unique power that lets them use things like floating rock bullets, or are these just straight up earth or air manipulation)?
  24. I wanted to share some of the magic systems I made with you guys, but then I thought to make it a discussion so we could like help each other develop our systems, and it just seems like good fun! Here are three systems that are the most developed so far: 1) Resonance - (This has an actual book associated with it, so spoiler warning, I guess? Don't want to sound conceited just dislike giving out spoilers without any warning!) This was made based on the usual mana to spell magic, like fireballs, but I put up some limitations for the system so that it's a true system. The main resource is called "Echo" (might change it to echoflow or echotide, so it's not confused with the regular use of the word "echo") Echo is life energy and the mages of this world (called Resonators) can tap into their Echo to produce one of three physical interactions: Force, Heat, and Light. Most Resonators only have one resonance, but some can have all three (called Cadent, you can see my inspiration from Mistborn lol). The resonance is determined by how the Resonator most naturally stimulates their Echo: Dynato (Force) let their Echo 'thrum' before letting loose at its peak, Ignitran (Heat) quiet their Echo for a moment before firing a burst of flame, and Luminar (Light) pretty much just take Echo from their own bodies and convert them into floating lights (like Magelight basically). The more Echo used the more powerful the effect, but if a person uses too much of their Echo they're in danger of dying or falling into a coma. A Resonator can also infuse items with Echo to give that item their resonance, though Cadents can't infuse. There's also a newer rarer kind of Resonator which uses one of the three resonances but in reverse: Still Force, Heat, and Light, but their absence instead (or opposite with Force). The way these effects are achieved is kinda to stimulate their Echo in reverse, so thrumming but letting lose at a low point attracts things instead of repels, revving the Echo to a breaking point then suddenly quieting it sucks the heat from a targeted point, and taking Echo away from a place instead of supplying it creates darkness or shadows. The reverse stimulation is a major plot point in the story. 2) Forge - A system which requires two or more specific things to work and is fueled by the users memories and understanding of concepts (literally). This was inspired by me mishearing someone say something about using memory as fuel and like your usual spoken spells. In this there are three systems: *Word Forge - which uses 2 to 4 words linked together to produce effects, and is best suited at less abstract effects. So saying "fire ball" would conjure a ball made of fire which would float in mid-air with no direction before dissipating. The user will temporarily forget the words they just said. *Image Forge - connects two or more images to summon creatures or items. These can be cut together pictures, drawings, etc. as long as there are two or more previous things combining to create one new thing. A user can save Forged drawings without summoning them, for later. A user will then forget what exactly their item/creature can do which forces the user to rediscover what it does, the image is also consumed but not the medium it was made on, so a drawing would disappear but not the paper, and a picture would have holes in it, etc. All memories of an Image Forged thing will return if the thing is destroyed or de-summoned. *Command Forge - connects one key word and one or more command words to produce effects. Can handle more abstract concepts like gravity or flight and can produce trickier effects like saying "Self. Twenty meters forward" which will then boost the user forward exactly twenty meters by their understanding. The user will forget the meaning of the command words, but not the key word, and the commands are based on the user's understanding of the concept (saying "Self. Transcend" does not work.) 3) Aspect Naturality - A magic system with 7 aspects. Each person born into the world has a naturality to 2 aspects (and nothing more), or in some rare cases no naturality at all. The 7 aspects are: Balance, Focus, Intuition, Instinct, Grit, Ferocity, and Vigilance. The aspects are triggered by doing certain actions that lean into that specific aspect, so the people of this world created several martial arts to channel each aspect, though a user can learn any of these martial arts, they can only trigger the two aspects that they are natural toward. Each aspect has a passive and active component: *Balance passively gives the user a greater understanding of balance and actively allows to shift their center of gravity, *Focus passively calms the user under pressure and actively see and react to things in slowed time (though their actions are not accelerated accordingly) *Intuition enhances the user's sense of direction and gauge how much damage a strike will do *Instinct enhances the user's danger sense and lets the user feel where a hit would land on their body (but without the pain associated) *Grit allows the user pain tolerance and slight anchoring in space *Ferocity numbs empathy and increases muscle mass *Vigilance lets the user learn faster and detect minute details (like muscle movement before a punch) This system was inspired by Absolver pretty much, just all of it lol Would like to hear your systems too and/or thoughts on my own, these could still use some more development!
