There's nothing else planned yet that I know of, but we could always plan more meet ups. Maybe try to get in a play of the Mistborn board game?
-
So far, we are planning on doing it Friday evening, probably around 6 or 7. We haven't figured out an exact location yet but I will update y'all when we do. I'm finally getting around to reading the rules for the RPG book this week, so will have more info once I've read that.
-
We will be using the Mistborn Adventure Game/Book. I picked it up the other day and am going to go through the rules.
-
Will you be there? You are welcome to join us.
-
Awesome! Thanks! Wasn't sure where to put it.

So, there is a group of us Branderson fans over on The Stormlight Archive Facebook page that are planning to meet and play the Mistborn RPG at GenCon, likely on Friday evening. If anyone here is interested in joining up with us, let me know and I'll provide more info on when and where. We are also looking for a DM for the RPG, so if you've got experience there, feel free to volunteer. Also, if you just want to watch and/or meet some cool Branderson fans, you're welcome to come say hi! That is all!

[OB] Being Broken isn't a requirement to radiance

Now that y'all mention that, I'm starting to remember that being explained. NVM, then, disregard my theorizing. -
[OB] Satire Scenes We Wish We'd Seen
Foxx replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Jasnah and Wit Roadtrip Extravaganza. I imagine lots of shenanigans. (I'll come up with a full-fledged scene when I have a bit more time.) -
[OB] Being Broken isn't a requirement to radiance
Foxx replied to MonsterMetroid's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really like the concept of a child naturally being more open to a spren bond than an adult, and thus not requiring "brokenness." It also fits with psychology, as children are far more impressionable than adults and events that happen to them while they are going through developmental phases have a far larger impact on them than those events would after the child was grown. Wasn't Shallan's shardeblade (Pattern) locked away by her farther? Can a Radiant's sprenblade be locked away like that? Maybe that's an indication that Shallan did, in fact, revive Pattern from a former blade? They were not fully bonded at the time and thus her father was able to lock Pattern away? -
He is one of my top-tier favorites, along with Jasnah, Lopen and Szeth/Nightblood.

I was actually really looking forward to that, too. After all the mayhem and battling I wanted to see the characters in a bit of a lighter and more celebratory environment. Some characters, like Renarin, we didn't get to see at all after the battle and I wanted to see the family interactions.
-
Hopkins is also very good at the charming villain, which is who Odium is. And Hopkins has a very timeless feel to him. I approve.
-
I can't unsee this. Brilliant!
-
Yes, this is how I see it. I honestly think a romantic relationship would lessen their bond, not strengthen it. They share something beyond and greater than a romantic relationship by sharing a bonded soul.
-
Didn't Navani say that Rushu was one of their best with handwriting? Maybe some really subtly placed foreshadowing there considering that Renarin is learning to read and write...
-
Rocks fall. Everybody dies. (Sorry, couldn't help myself.) I honestly have no idea and fear trying because Sanderson will prove me wrong in embarrassing and pathetic ways. Mayhaps, Odium divides by zero, hysteria ensues. I'd like to see Wit reunited with his flute. He seems genuinely torn up about it. And I want to see Jasnah be a boss Queen.
-
Pattern. Just...Pattern. <3
-
I really wanted to see a Jasnah and Navani reunion. Also I was brokenhearted about the lack of a Jasnah and Wit Magnificent Roadtrip. Guys, we need this novella.

Yes.........eww........*shudder* That just seems....complicated...

Chaperone Pattern, you glorious, amazing spren, you! So many other moments, too. Lopen and his reassuring the ground was one of the best Lopen moments ever. Everything that guy does is brilliant.
-
This concept bothers me just because of how close a Radiant and their spren are. In OB it was noted that the Nahel bond was even closer than a romantic union since it is a bonding/mixing of souls (I believe Notum explained this when they were on the boat in Shadesmar.) I see Radiants and spren as pieces of one another and thinking about them being romantically involved just seems...wrong. Also, think of how horrifically complicated that could get if the relationship falls apart and then the Radiant is forced to use their Exblade while in battle. Worst breakup in the history of mankind... I like Syl and Kaladin's relationship the way it is, an extremely intimate bond that goes beyond friendship but is platonic. Plus, Syl trying to hook Kaladin up with women is gold!

The feel like the Problem With Szeth will be covered during the one year time skip. He showed up in the midst of a cataclysmic battle and fought alongside the Radiants and Thaylens when they most needed it, so there's some reputation cleansing going on thanks to that move. They're also in the midst of the end of the world, so at that point there's probably a bit of "beggars can't be choosers" mentality going on. I'm sure there will be hesitancy and mistrust, but Szeth will have a year to prove himself before the start of the next book. I do hope it's addressed realistically and not just glossed over. And if all else fails, Nightblood can just give a rousing speech about DESTROYING EVIL and win everyone over to their side through a combination of charm and sheer horror.
-
Let's also not forget Chaperone Pattern, who was just glorious.
-
I'd sign onto that roadtrip so fast... Nightblood and I would be fast fast friends. That may be telling regarding my personality... Jasnah is my spirit animal. <3 Anyway, I could spend way too much unproductive time imagining hanging out with SA characters and causing incredible mayhem.

I really like Adolin and I see a lot of potential with his character. I do agree that his character hasn't had to struggle as much as others to get where they are, but a lot of that is just an effect of how he was raised. He's a Prince and thus, no, he hasn't had to scrape and fight and battle for everything. Part of his character IS the fact that things are just kind of handed to him and he hasn't had to work as hard. You see this when Jasnah brings Shallan to the Shattered Plains and Adolin admits that he likes the idea of someone else picking a wife for him because he seems no good at it and keeps failing. He's grown accustomed to people giving him things and directing him. What I like about him is that, despite this, he's still a decent human being. I think there's a lot to explore there, and a lot that Sanderson just hasn't explored yet. Adolin has a lot of potential for me. I feel almost like he's being primed for some really big character moments. We didn't really learn anything about his past up until OB, and now there are some large changes happening in his life that he's going to be forced to deal with. The world he's grown so accustom to is radically shifting. It's not going to be a world where he's handed things anymore because he's a lighteyed Prince, it's going to be a world where Radiants are taking control and the cultural norms are thrown off. I'm okay with the fact that he hasn't had major moments of character realization up until this point. He's kind of been a constant, which has been nice given all of the major character shifts happening with others. I feel like with Adolin, you basically know how he's going to react and that's okay (for now). He's a solid and level-headed (for the most part) person, and thus I tend to feel like things just haven't shifted enough to throw him off...yet. He's being set up for moments in the future. We've seen that, despite being level-headed and open to new things and changes, he can get overcome with emotion and make self-sabotaging decisions (killing Sadeas) that do more harm than good for his family, even though helping his family was what he was aiming for. I definitely don't think we've seen the end of that storyline. There's a lot to explore there from the standpoint of Adolin taking the "easy way out" by killing Sadeas, thinking it would be best for his family, but not foreseeing the major problems those actions could cause for his family. I think that points to some sense of immaturity within him and the inability to make the tough call and use diplomacy and off-the-battlefield strategy to deal with the problem of Sadeas. We see that Dalinar is much more politically savvy than Adolin, who seems far more comfortable with a sword in hand than anything that has to do with politicking and being a diplomat, and that's why Adolin refuses the Kingship. I also think there's potential to dig into the divide that's there between Dalinar and Adolin, Dalinar doesn't seem willing to recognize that Adolin isn't a very capable diplomat and that could cause issue on down the road. To me, Adolin is a good guy who easily could have been a spoiled and rude brat, but isn't. Maya waking up also points to the fact that he is a internally good person. He's solid and not easily shifted (a necessity for battle-trained leaders like him), but where he starts to falter is with dilemmas that can't be solved with a sword. In those moments he looks for an easy way out (killing Sadeas, giving up on Shallan and telling her to be with Kaladin, refusing the Kingship because it's too hard and too much), and I think that's where we're going to start seeing problems for him. For now, I'm good with him, and he was one of my favorites in OB because of the arc with Maya and because I can see him being set up for some big moments. He's been that solid constant that has acted as an anchor in the midst of crazy character shifts, and that's fine. I will get upset if we don't see more out of him in the future. He's starting to face major life-altering events that will throw him off more and more and at some point he's going to have to deal with the reality of these events and come to terms with the fact that not everything has an easy way out or an easy solution. Basically, yeah, life has been easy for him and he's grown accustom to that and that's part of who he is, but that just can't continue. And when he's faced with those realizations, and when some of these decisions he's made come back to bite him and those he cares about, I think we'll see some larger character moments from him.
