  1. I wonder if Dalinar creating the perpendicularity near them again would get them lucid again like it did for Taln the first time.
  2. While re-reading Warbreaker, a question came into my mind - we all know that Returned come back for a purpose, probably based on what Endowment sees in the future. We also know from Odium's scene with Taravangian that in the view of the future, some people are grayed out like Renarin. If I get any of the exact wording wrong, the idea is still there some there are individuals who have become wildcards/unreadable. I wondered if Brandon has said anything about whether the Returned would be similarly greyed out or not. I feel like they would be considered wildcards in a similar way.
  3. Is Soulstamping spiritual or is it cognitive? I sort of equate it to soulcasting, just on a deeper level. Otherwise, there just came out a WoB today where someone asked if Silver was like Aluminum and they got a sort of yes from it: --- Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Is silver in Shadows for Silence similar in any way to aluminum in the rest of the cosmere? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] *hesitantly* Yes, but not really. Silver is like silver, and aluminum is like aluminum. --- Aluminum negates investiture of all types - I'm not sure it has anything to do with physical, spiritual, or cognitive. In a similar way, Silver may be a negater, or perhaps a warder? I know he likes to talk about how the magic is often related to fundamental forces and I wonder if it has to do with repulsion (like electromagnetism) of spiritual things (like the shades). Not sure, but it's a wob to chew on.
  4. Thanks for the reminder - the fact that it tarnishes it to the point that it has to be replaced and can't just be polished means that it is used up in some way. Silver acts as a ward against the shades which are cognitive shadows, like Kelsier (though he is unique in his own way and not mindless), right? That combined with with Vin's earring makes me wonder if it blocks negative influence from Shadesmar, or influence at all from Shadesmar. A question to ask Brandon may be - if someone were covered in Silver, could they still form a Nahel Bond? And if they could, what about the voidspren entering the Singers? That would help answer that question, maybe. Unless, of course, Silver has more to do with the spiritual realm after all.
  5. It's been a bit since I reread Shadows for silence, but I know remember the silver containing and driving back the shades. Would it have to consume the silver? Aluminum blocks investiture such as shardblades, yet it isn't consumed. And as for harm, who knows? I just see Shadows and Vin's earring as our only clues for what Silver does. I imagine the Silver in some way helped Vin not be as negatively affected by Ruin even though she was spiked, but that's just my speculation. Perhaps Silver has to do with the spiritual realm then?
  6. I always thought that Silver had to do with shadesmar / cognitive realm. Or perhaps even the spiritual realm. We don't get much of either in Mistborn, then shades are cognitive shadows and are affected by it. My memory maybe off, but doesn't Hoid do something to hurt Kelsier at the Well? I know we don't see any metal here, but it could've been hidden silver. I wonder if Silverlight has anything to do with Silver and Shadesmar.
  7. I like the idea of Aimians returning. It could also be that more humans will cross over; it's called the origin after all so it may be where the humans came from and we know that there are more humans on Ashyn who could come over. I know we believe Shun to be the original landing space, but with ships, that means nothing.
  8. From reading these comments, I have a couple questions: Perhaps part of what Honor and Cultivation did was somehow force Odium to invest? Which raises the question - how does a shard invest or divest from a planet? We know investing can be accidental or purposeful, but divesting isn't really talked about. If one day, for instance, Harmony wanted to leave Scadrial to help in cosmere related events, short of turning the whole planet into a starship, how would he leave the planet to help? Odium's goal has to be twofold: 1. Shatter Cultivation 2. Leave the planet. If his shardpool is linked to Braize and he is, therefore, invested there, how can he sever that connection? As far as we know, no one living is in the physical realm there (correct me if I'm wrong). The souls of the singer ancestors are hanging out in the cognitive realm we've theorized, but why are they there? how did they get there from Roshar? If the Everstorm is Odium's perpendicularity, how was it summoned and, again, how does it connect to Braize? As for shardpools and perpendicularities maybe or not being always the same, I agree with the original author. Wasn't what Jasnah did to make it back to the physical realm described as making a mini-perpendicularity? Don't remember where I heard that, but I think that is so. Also, I think Heralds guarding Odium's shardpool is a valid thought - until we hear from Taln I doubt we'll understand fully what was going on with the Heralds on Braize - "tortured" is such a broad word and how is was done and why it was necessary is still very much up in the air.
  9. I love this idea, although whether or not Kaladin ends up in that role to Gavinor or not remains to be seen. Yes, it was Bridge 4 that rescued Gavinor and presented him to Kaladin, but Dalinar and Navani will likely end up raising him, considering his role as the heir- newlyweds and already thrust into parenthood? Not that they haven't been parents before, but never together. Or will is be Jasnah? She's the new monarch, but it could well be that they keep Gavinor as they heir afterwards, or at least a potential heir. Considering Jasnah has thusfar not shown much interest in love and children, it's likely Gavinor could still end up king one day. If Jasnah has to be a mother, suddenly, that could affect her character development greatly. I could see Kaladin as a bodyguard. Or perhaps Oroden is he follows in his brother's footsteps one day? After all, we don't know who will survive the first 5 books to make it past the 10-15 year gap. Regarding Oroden and Gavinor, it depends on how Oroden grows - will he be a surgeon? a fighter? both like Kaladin? neither? A surgebinder or no? Will he grow up nearby, or with Kaladin's father be stubborn and they end up not moving to Urithiru after all? I would like to see their interactions though, so hopefully they get placed together. They both have shoes to fill, albeit very different ones.
  10. Perhaps this belongs in a different topic, I don't know, being relatively new to this, but could Oathbringer itself be an example of this? Honestly, I don't feel like the Bondsmiths themselves were in focus as far as Orders go this book - sure we see Dalinar say some cool oaths and do some cool things, but we don't really LEARN about the order - that would be the Skybreakers that we learn about. Either way, I still think that Ash may turn out to be a Dustbringer, more from how Dalinar felt than from anything else. I like the idea of a Herald joining a different order as it's a contrast from what we have seen.
  11. When Dalinar combined all three realms and all the surgebinders walked up, there was a sense that all 10 orders were present (Venli being the Willshaper). All are obvious to us as readers except Venli and Shalash and Taln, though we assume he'll resume being a Stoneward. As I said, we assume Venli to be the Willshaper (one argument for why is because her spren's grandfather is a deadeye and a willshaper spren in shadesmar mentioned his fathre being a deadeye, if I remember correctly). That leaves Shalash to be the Dustbringer, or eventual Dustbringer. We've already seen Naln be "the only Herald to join his own order." This leaves open the option that others either have or can join other orders. As for breaking things and not making art, sounds very much like the current Shalash, at least around her own statues and portraits.
  12. Not sure if someone mentioned this, but could Ambition be the #3? I believe Ambition is connected to Threnody though it never invested there and there are the 3 simple rules. A long shot, but there it is.
