  1. This could be a very dumb question, but what happens if someone is in possession of an Honorblade during a Desolation? I've always operated under the assumption that these are just powerful relics that grant surgebinding abilities to the user. This doesn't mean that the user takes on the responsibility of upholding the oathpact that the original Herald was bound to, right? It's just a tool, not a part of the pact, right?
  2. Agreed! I always thought the relationship was superficial, but I'm now starting to get it. This leads me to my next comment... I think that the shippers and people that are loathing the tropes should trust the author to deliver a great story. He always delivers. Allow him to deliver.
  3. Same could be said about that whole "arranged marriage works out perfectly" trope in Brandons books. It's a non-argument. @SLNC Amen to that.
  4. Yes but he's still Vorin - he might be agnostic but he doesn't read, still sees safehands as forbidden and they make him uncomfortable. These things go much further than religious creed; it's cultural and deeply rooted. I don't think Syl wearing Vorin attire means anything different than it being Kaladin's culture. Good point! I don't disagree! I was simply saying it's more than just being Alethi. I hope that my comment didn't sound like I was refuting that she was embracing his culture. That wasn't what I was trying to say.
  5. Syl's Havah would not necessarily mean she identifies as Alethi because it is generally Vorin. Shallan wears the same attire and she is from Jah Kaved. I find it very interesting that Syl has taken this form because Kaladin is seen as agnostic, or not very religious, at least.
  6. Agreed, Pattern is easily my favorite character. I love all the spren so far, though. I love love love Pattern! Pattern doesn't get enough cred!
  7. I read her ability to navigate as directly related to her hightened ability to recognize patterns. I do, however, love the idea of Urithiru trying to disorient non-radiants as a defense!
  8. Wasn't Helaran the guy Kaladin killed at the beginning of WoK? I know it's far-fetched, but it is only implied that Kaladin killed him. Never confirmed. There are theories floating around that the shardbearer that Kaladin killed was not Heleran...I do recognize that the plausibility of this theory is questionable.
  9. 1. Jasnah will lay a verbal smackdown on her sister-in-law. 2. Lift will run into/interact briefly with one of our main characters. (I'm thinking maybe Adolin in exile, or something...assuming that's what happens to him.) 3. Navani's motives will be revealed. (I may make a post about this later because I'm obsessing about this, but I think she is up to no good...or at least working toward her own gains.) 4. Kaladin will not save the day...someone else will. (Vague, I know, but we now expect him to swoop in a save everyone. It's someone else's turn.) 5. We will find out details about the Recreance. (perhaps through Shallan's arc) 6. Heleran is alive and is not the idyllic person that Shallan remembers him to be...perhaps he never was. Shallan's brothers join her in Urithiru and cause her grief in some form or fashion. 7. I also think we are going to see more Amaram or Ialai. (IIRC, There will be a character that we haven't had a ton of POV's from that will become more prominent in the story.) 8. Kaladin's mama tells him to cut his hair.
  10. Also, this.
  11. Navani She isn't really over-hyped (or hyped at all for that matter), but I see people cheering on her relationship with Dalinar and I'm over here like "I don't trust this B."
  12. @Roadwalker @btcannon @Sami @Tesh Thank you guys so much for responding to my post! Being a complete noob, I posted this twice, once in the "Introduce yourself" forum category and once in the "Stormlight Archive" forum category (Same title). There is further discussion going on there. I'd love to invite you to join it.
  13. I got the translations right here on The Coppermind. I will not take credit for doing this! The brilliant Harakeke apparently translated this in 2010. Here is a link from that revelation: http://twg.17thshard.com/index.php?topic=7882.msg0#msg0
  14. @Toaster Retribution Haha! I'm one of those shippers and I'm kind of worried that I'm reading into the four emotion subjects as foreshadowing for what I want to happen between Kaladin and Shallan. I will say, for the sake of argument, that if #3 does refer to Adolin and Shallan, it doesn't necessarily mean that they break up over it...it just means that he feels disgust, love, and fear. GAH! That makes me so sad for him. @Harakeke You are too humble. That is a great accomplishment! @Harakeke I agree with all of the above. I don't think Brandon wrote these pages and then coded them just for it to be some fun information. There is something there. @Seloun I like this!
  15. BTW, I feel like I should give someone credit for that translation. I found it on The Coppermind and I just looked at the notes for the entry and discovered that some brilliant person that goes by Harakeke took the time to translate that script! My mind is blown. What a genius.
  16. I don't see any dates on the three pages that are from her notebook, so there is no evidence that this page is from future events. You've definitely opened my mind to the possibilities!! I do want to refute one suggestion: the Moash betrayal of Kaladin. It seems that the wearer would have to be in close proximity to the subject and (assuming this is Navani doing the readings) she was no where near them when that occurred. I feel very strongly that #3 (betrothed lies statement) is in reference to Shallan and Adolin. I don't have anything to go on except a gut feeling. That one is the one that initially caught my attention and made me look twice at this page.
  17. @SpickerThe note at the bottom of the page leads me to believe that Navani was the one wearing the bracelet while studying said subjects.
  18. Greetings! I've been a long-time lurker and I just joined because my sisters and I are collectively developing a theory...more on that later...but, while doing so, I stumbled upon something that I'm not sure anyone has brought up. I figured, since I'm pretty new at this, a far less complicated post would be a good start. If this has been previously discussed, apologies. I was analyzing the illustrations from Navani's notebook, and I was caught by surprise by what could possibly be some strong foreshadowing. The illustration details a fabrial that is used to read emotion (from TWoK). On the page, four examples of the emotions read are listed as follows: 1. Man betrayed by a close friend 2. Woman who has just been proposed to 3. Man who discovered his betrothed lied to him 4. Mother at wedding of only son So, I assume that this is an invention of Navani's and that these are actual readings that she took from people she actually knows. Obviously, each example can be debated a number of ways. (I want to make it perfectly clear that I'm not steadfastly convinced of my interpretation.) The four scenarios, however, could be connected in the sense that they involved the same group of people...specifically a certain three young people who's pairings are hotly debated on this very forum. Thoughts? Discuss... I'm very excited to see what people say. Rip it apart...go! The page in question:
