"Approached Resolve" Dusts! Lies! -- power to bring emotion -- Has to do with the way people feel. _______________________________________ That was fun to hear him read and use all those phrases that continually show up in his books.

So I missed the first part but I am in now -- but we were wondering where he is broadcasting from? Is the fireplace in his house? Is there a live audience? Did he mention any of that information. Who is Isabell?

I’m on. I think it’s on his website and you scroll down. I had to keep refreshing though.

I’ve been reading in Kindle but my physical books were just delivered and I’m confused. The endpapers are beautiful but I’m not sure who they are! Here is what Brandon says in his acknowledgement/preface blurb. Front inside cover with woman in green dress looks like Truthwatcher/Paliah to me. There is a tree branch growing in the background. Logic Spren (looks like storm clouds) are in this painting. But Brandon clearly states that Paliah is not displayed in this book. Front first page illustration is of a man in purple and blue robes holding a sword with the Willshaper symbol on it — whom I assume is Kalak / Kelek. But again the blurb seems to indicate that these two characters were saved for the next book. Did someone make a last minute change or am just to tired from staying up late reading last night? The last page is obviously Nale — a man in uniform with a sword. Signed by Ortiz. (Are those Larkins in the background?) The last endpaper on the back cover is a stunning painting of a woman with red hair holding a sword (with both hands uncovered *gasp* ) in front of a background of a beautiful stone archway with dust blowing around it. I assume this is the Dustbringer Chanaranach painted by Ortiz. I’m thinking that Donato’s Talenelat and Battah by Miranda Meeks were moved to the next book. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks for the info. I didn’t even think to check my email! So excited. I wonder how long it will take me to read 30 hours . . . and the Ketek is beautiful. . . . Not what I was expecting

After much reflection on this thread about Shallan’s secret past I’m going to go with — Shallan was/is a Horneater Princess. It was right in front of us (or at least Kaladin) since tWoK.

One can never have enough cousins!

This is good to know. Thanks for the information! I’m really looking forward to the bookmark. Do you remember what was on the bookmark?

I ordered “extra” swag directly from Dragonsteel because it was really important to me that I get a Willshaper pin for my collection. The swag from Dragonsteel that I paid extra for is what I received already. I already posted the photo of the pins but I’ll post it here again. I just love the vibrant colors! I’m assuming that @Iarwainiel ordered the same swag I did. Here is the other stuff I had to order to get the pin. T-Shirt. Lanyard. (Photos of both sides) Wristband. (My daughter, who has also applied to BYU for next year @Tesh is modeling the wristband in the photo) @Nathrangking @Rosharan @Aragorn @Fezzik @aneonfoxtribute — I’m guessing that the swag from Tor will be the lanyard, bracelet/wristband and I really hope another epic bookmark. Something to keep the Heralds or Unmade straight. I use my Oathbringer map of Roshar bookmark all the time. Does anyone know if there will be a live chat on You-Tube or somewhere else during the release? Those were fun during the Kickstarter signings.

I received an email from my preorder that a link will be sent out 24 hours before the online Release Party. It will be at 6pm Mountain Time. Who else is planning on watching the release party live? https://www.brandonsanderson.com/the-rhythm-of-war-release-party-details-swag-bundle/

I received my RoW swag from Dragonsteel today. The pins are my favorite. Here is a photo of the Willshaper pin next to the pins from the earlier books! They are so beautiful!

@RShara Hello! I’m bummed that I won’t see you at the RoW release party! I love seeing all the costumes and meeting the people (like yourself). I guess that means we get extra time to plan our costumes for the next event! If it were not for the Governors order I would suggest we all meet someone to have our own little party but maybe we could do something like that another time. Thank you so much for the information on Shallan’s mother. I can’t believe that question was asked in 2014 and I hadn’t seen the WOB on it yet. I do think that there is something interesting and important about Shallan’s heritage that will be revealed eventually. I really wasn’t expecting a lot of Shallan’s past to come up in RoW but it is looking like we will learn more about her past. I still think that Kaladins’s mom, Hesina, is a descendant of Wit/Hoid. (Thanks @Mason Wheeler for pointing that out). I’m guessing that Kaladin’s & Shallan’s ancestors were somehow involved in the past with something important with Spren/Singers, etc. perhaps the fused interacted with some of them in the past.

I’m pretty sure it is because both the fabrial and the column had four matching garnets on them in a similar pattern. I wish it would have been called Four Garnets to throw in a reference to the ending of the chapter. I think that the chapter could have also been called Fourth Warmth. I’m sure that while the ending of this chapter was not overtly climatic for the readers, the ending of part one was very climatic for Navani & Dalinar.

So I’m going to add a few more quotes that I recently read in OB about Shallan. I find it interesting that Wit calls her by the name Shallan. (See last quote) @ftl I agree with you that Shallan is probably human but the way those were written I wonder what experiences she had that we don’t know about yet that made her feel inhuman. Here are some quotes from OB pg 768 I hope we get to hear about Shallan’s first few times. pg 764 Since we met Shallan first, I assumed it was her primary persona. But if Shallan would be easier to abandon than Veil, then I am obviously missing something. But then again this is Veil thinking. pg 772 The voice (unmade) called her Shallan. While she was Veil. And it was a familiar voice. Pg 787 Without Stormlight she is Shallan. So does that mean the other personas that require Stormlight are not real? I don’t remember if Shallan is always Shallan in Shadesmear. I’ll have to watch for that. Does anyone else know? Wit explicitly says Shallan is worth protecting. I believe that there is something special about Shallan that we don’t know about yet. I’m excited to read and find out what!!!!

So I had been having similar thoughts about Kaladin joining his father as a surgeon again in the Preview chapters. Then I just read this from OB pg 728. Just as when Kaladin was running bridges — his very first thought is how to help heal people. Whenever he sees battle he always tries to get them help. He understands that medical help was necessary and that’s why he bribed the medics in Amarams Army. I really think that the fighting and healing go hand-in-hand. They compliment one another. I believe that Kaladin has a natural inclination to heal and that he is fighting it because that is just his personality and some PTSD with his family surrounding becoming a surgeon. I am looking forward to discovering what will happen to Kal the surgeon.

Ok, I found another interesting quote from Shallan while rereading Oathbringer. pg 733 So is Shallan human? What thing is she?

@aneonfoxtribute and @Honorless Thanks for the info. It seems that Midnight Essence is very kandra like then. I didn’t realize before that the Midnight Essence had bones in it. I thought it was more of an inflated Smokey balloon.

Recently read this and it reminded me of a thread (maybe it was this one?) from Oathbringer So this quote implies that the “Real” Shallan is false. That there is something more (mystery Mraize is keeping) there is also this There is always another secret!
-
So I believe that there is a WOB that says there are Kandras in Stormlight. In Oathbringer in the chapter: THE GIRL WHO LOOKED UP there is the following description on page 257. I know that we are led to believe that this is a description of an unmade — but doesn’t that sound like a Kandra? Does anyone have any insights on this?

Yes— they did. When you posted earlier “I got . . . The playing cards” I just wanted clarification for what “got” meant. Ordered vs Received. I ordered extra playing cards as well and didn’t want to feel left out if they had started shipping. Because as of right now I’ve only received the posters.
-
Just to clarify — you ordered the playing cards. You haven’t received them yet.?

I was wondering if Shallan has visited the Nightwatcher? I don’t think I ever considered that before. Perhaps she was taken when she was quite young or when her mom was pregnant with her?

#1) hmmmmmmmmmm #2) I’m not entirely sure I understand what you are saying here. Are you saying Shallan is a returned? Or one of her parents was a returned? #3) interesting idea but I’m certain it’s not all true — but maybe parts of it could be? You may be onto something there. Roshar is indeed an island. Fascinating. I’m sure pattern would be fascinated as well.
