We first learned about it from a signing reading. (I'm not sure it was a signing actually. I sort of remember a video, with Brandon reading in front of a classroom or auditorium?) I wrote a FAQ about this question once, but I can't find the FAQ, only the old post where I submitted it. Anyway this has the info and a link to the signing report: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/3213-solicitation-for-faqs-and-their-answers-stormlight/?p=59134

I think so. "Sense of battle" is a mental state. "Mood" is for emotional mental states, and sense of battle isn't an emotion. But it's close.

Poor Adolin. First his father starts giving Kaladin more attention than him. Then his brother starts giving Kaladin more attention than him. Then Shallan leaves him for Renarin... Maybe it's not too late to apologize to Danlan?

There are some more ideals in Chapter 28. Dalinar remembers them from the Way of Kings when digging the latrine. Never fight other men except when forced to in war. Let your actions defend you, not your words. Expect honor from those you meet, and give them the chance to live up to it. Rule as you would be ruled.

And then the explosion when she says it destroys the boat!

I'd make Moash a Stoneward because of the Radiant Order BFFs theory, but I don't think he fits Dependable/Resourceful. Your Dustbringer idea is better. Is anyone actually dependable? I need to find Kaladin a BFF for the theory. Lopen maybe. He always has cousins to do things. That's dependable, right?

Reviving a dead topic: Szeth's Shardblade is an Honourblade
Morsk replied to Aether's topic in Stormlight Archive
Do you mean this? Or am I totally misunderstanding the question?
“Dung,” Kal said stubbornly. “It has spren?” “I suppose it does.” “Dungspren,” Tien said, then snickered.
I don't know how to do it in the fancy editor. I only use the text one.- 128 replies

Who will be next to speak an Ideal of the Knights Radiant?
Morsk replied to Stoneward's topic in Stormlight Archive
How do we know Dalinar doesn't have a spren? I've read that twice now, but Dalinar hears a voice saying "Once these weapons meant protecting," and "Life before death," in Chapter 26 when he loses the Thrill. -
I just remembered this from the Lift interlude. I don't know if anyone disputes that Darkness' companion there is the same one as at Gavilar's feast. I figured they're the same. Anyway: That's so crazy. He's not even a sadist who wanted to kill a child. He only did it because he said he would, and felt compelled to do as he'd said. So I think it's the corrupted "resolute" attribute, and this is another case for him being Kalak. And he's definitely "getting worse". If he were aware of how crazy he was, he wouldn't threaten to kill Gawx in the first place, because he'd know the threat was a terrible risk that he'd have to do it. He doesn't understand how crazy he is. Even after he did it, I don't think he really understands that it's not normal to think that way. edit: The first time I read that part of the Lift interlude, I thought it was exposition awkwardly forced into the plot. Threatening to slit Gawx's throat is stupid. Explaining to Darkness that he had to do as he threatened makes no sense, since Darkness would know, right? It's only done so the reader can see it, I thought. But if the guy is insane and doesn't realize how insane, the bad decision and explanation make sense as something he'd do.

This thread title made me wonder if "______ is such a dullform!" is a common insult among Parshendi.

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Morsk replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
It could still be their Ideal to seek honor before justice. There's another order that does justice, and having leaders / protectors also be judges is a bad idea. It wouldn't mean no justice, just that Kaladin can't seek it personally, which would be very hard. -
I don't understand "my lord's" instead of "our lord's", unless the second guy was Jezrien's subject in his normal pre-Herald days, and still considers him his king, but Darkness was from another nation and doesn't. At least some of the Heralds knew each other before, because Shalash is Jezrien's daughter. That's a lot of guesswork to justify it though.

The male and female ones were in mateform. It sounds like Parshendi mostly ignore biological sex, and consider it something latent that only comes out in mateform. I also wonder if "pairs" always have to be in the same form and have some type of special empathy from it, or if it's just a social convention. edit: Actually this is sort-of confirmed by the early Eshonai reading: The canon version on Tor isn't clear about it though:

Nightblood is a magic sword in Warbreaker. Since Shardblades are another kind of magic sword, people have asked Brandon a few times what would happen if two people fought with the different kinds of weapons. He always RAFOed it, so we were hoping Wit's sword would be one of them and we'd get to see it. edit: I know there's another thread with this that I read last night; I don't want to derail this one. But I can't find it!

I found them last night but was too tired to post them. I seem to remember finding it in two places, but right now I can only find this one: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/3722-theory-hoid-nightblood-roshar/?p=65325

Should I buy the hard cover or ebook of WoR?
Morsk replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I haven't decided yet either. I like physical books, but they end up in boxes, and before they end up in boxes they end up severely annoying me to the point that I'm willing to put them in boxes. And even then, they annoy me when I move. Those boxes are heavy. I'm pretty extreme about this though. I won't buy gaming consoles because I don't want to have to own all the DVDs and memory cards. -
Actually I forgot the Lift Interlude. It has #4 and #2, which I figured were for Lift's Order, and Darkness being Nalan. So maybe we'll see more of those later on in WoR. I mostly don't try to associate them with Radiant orders anymore. That made most of us put Jasnah as #5, when the real purpose of the #5s was probably that she was in a library. I think Adolin gets #8 because of his emotional state before the duel.
-
So what are you going to do until WoR comes out?
Morsk replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm probably taking a month off from cosmere fandom, so it will feel new and exciting again when the book comes out. - Video games - Cleaning That's everything I could afford to neglect to make more time for Stormlight anyway. -
This is just a quick idea, but what if she isn't a Radiant at all, but a Herald? 10 Heralds aren't much vs. whole armies of Voidbringers. There weren't always Radiants, and even if there were always Surgebinders (we don't know), Honor wasn't expecting them when he gave the Heralds their powers. If he wanted Heralds to lead armies against Voidbringers, he'd have to give them a power like this.
-
Every WoR chapter and interlude we've seen from Tor has doubles of the same Herald icon. Maybe Brandon was trying something subtle with them in the first book, but it was too subtle for us and we missed most/all of it, so he simplified it going forward? If that's the case, I wonder what we missed...

I also think the beggar is Ishar. The beggar's hair color is wrong for Jezrien.

When will Shallan bust out her big secret?
Morsk replied to ragingdomer's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think I like it too now. I started writing it as a joke, but I kept changing things to make it seem more possible, and now I like it. Her being in the perfect situation to kill Darkness, with the perfect secret weapon, is a huge coincidence though. It fitting her story's theme about "secrets" is also a bit of a coincidence. So I blamed it on the Cryptics, so at least there'd be a reason for it. The Honorblade idea is interesting, but it would probably mean Szeth doesn't have one, because Shallan is nothing like Szeth. It would also make her line in WoK hugely ironic: -
So priests dress like prostitutes? These are the weirdest gender roles ever. At least no one asks them to cover it up solely to make men feel less embarrassed. That would break the whole "equally annoying" gender theme, and be male biased. I do wonder how men feel about it though. "Ack, ardent safehands. Pretend it's not attractive. If anyone catches you looking at it, they'll wonder if you secretly want to read." Or something.

Will Dalinar learn how Kaladin became a slave, in WOR?
Morsk replied to eveorjoy's topic in Stormlight Archive
My idea of "justice" would be if Dalinar and Amaram took Kaladin into confidence, and said look, this is just how Lighteyes have to do things, we need Amaram's help, Amaram needed the Shards, Amaram is part of an important plan against the Ghostbloods (or whatever), etc. And then Kaladin was like ok fine you're right, gee Lighteyes and all your burdens. And then did the Lighteyes thing and had Amaram assassinated. Probably wouldn't happen in one of Brandon's books though!
