  1. I would like it, if adolin would reawaken Maya, but then turn into something completley new, because he is basically bonded to a zombie. Like something along the lines of being able to absorp investiture like a larkin or being able to absorb spren with his blade. So he could become a miniscule part of the solution for the fused.

  2. @Aerlion I dont think, that there is a duplicate questions post already, but thats a good idea. So did you already receive your books and the answers? If not please post them, when you get them or give them to the arcanum.

@Yata Well, if Kelsier cept his mistborn status, when being revived, he would only need the feruchemical powers. And the Inquisitors seemed to have the most important ones, like feruchemical gold or steel. I mean you could go without the ability to store breath, but with out healing or speed, you wouldnt want to miss out on this.

In theory is possible, if the Mistborn doesn't die when you performe the first Hemalurgy on him. But I really doubt you could do this more than one time (so two Spikes if you are luck)

I honestly don't know, as you need to put intent to use Hemalurgy I don't even know if you could performe two Hemalurgy together (but this is not a problem as you need only a collegue), mostly as the Soul is ripped the guy mostly die and if he doesn't we don't know if the Soul is in condition to be properly spiked again. This is true also for the previous question.

First of all, if you are human, you could tollerate until 3 Spikes without be opened to direct control. The fourth will allow external forces to control you.

Returning to your question, are you asking if you could fuse together Spikes to stack charge right ? Of course if they are made of different metals you could not but also if they are made of the same metal I believe you could not forge them together if they were not originally made by the same "donor" as the two Identity could mess with them.

I hope my questions are helpful, I feel I could possibly mistake some of your questions. If this is the case, made me notice and I will try to answer them properly

Okay, first of thank you very much for your answers, but I think I need to clarify some of my questions. You answered 1 and 2 very well.

My question 3 (the one with the contraption) referred to using a iron maiden contraption. Like you build a machine that would put all the different metal spikes through the right bindpoint at the exact same time. Like pulling a lever and then they all pierce through your victim. It should be possible to have the intent to do that, right? I mean the intent to creat one spike is: "I want to create a hemalurgic spike." So why not "I want to create 16 hemalurgic spikes."

My question 4 should have come with this picture.

    firelink-greatsword-dark-souls-3-3d-prin

Like this could be to different spikes, if the coils are made from to different metals. One pewter, one steel for example. Assuming you would push this through the right point with the right intent, would you create 2 spikes or just be able to steal one attribute.

Question 5 is basically, if you weld to spikes together would they count as one spike or several spikes.

Honestly I am trying to figure out how Kelsier became a fullborn through hemalurgy. My start point is that they used Spooks mistborn powers and harvested them at the end of his life as I dont think Harmony would just allow him to harvest random metalborns. So Im trying to figure out how they did that. Granted Kelsier could have 32 spikes, but I dont think he would expose himself to being controlled by a shard.

  4. So Im thinking about buying a leather bound copy of mistborn and you can ask a question, with that. I am mainly interested in heamlurgy, because it seems to be the most versatile metallic art.

I want to make sure, that I dont ask somethig that has already been answered. So I got some questions for the more knowledgable of you.

    1. What would happen, if you use a spike made from yourself on yourself. When you have been harvested you are similiar to a drap, but worse. And a part of your power is always lost due to the law of heamlurgic decay.

    2. Can you steal all or multiple allomantic or feruchemical powers using an atium spike? Since atium steals all abilities.

    3. Could you steal multiple attributes with multiple spikes from the same mistborn / feruchemist at the same time? Possibly using some kind of torture contraption.

    4. Could you steal several attributes through the same bindpoint? Like making some kind of coiled spike, that is infact several different spikes. Kind of like the bonfire swords in Dark Souls just from different metals.

    5. I read a WoB, that reforging a hemalurgic spike would severly decrease its power. So could you weld several spikes together submerged in blood ( You can weld underwater ), that you premade to fit together? Kind of to get around the 2-spikes-and-Harmony-can-control-you-thing.

Hopefully this isnt to annoying and please help me. Which one do you think I should ask?

    Thanks

Of course it is completely unrealistic :D

It is just funny how the pointers are there. Even more than his attraction to Shallan. So much so, that I'm for some reason beginning to doubt the intensity of it, but well, I'm obviously a bit biased.

Well Im still hoping for Kaladin-Shallan-Adolin threesome scene told trough Syl, Pattern and a reawakend Maya. :D

  6. Just discovered this thread and wrote my own scene. Firstly I know that this is not a possible scene, but I just love the idea behind it and Kelsier is my favorite character. So I just had to include him and I played a bit with this fate.

    Spoiler

    Dalinar chapter:

The others had finally left the meeting room and only Adolin had remained behind in a chair by the large glass doors, which kept the mists from the balcony outside. Slowly he sank into an armchair next to his son and sighed:

“If only we had made some progress by now, but inspite of the Azishs codex we are just spinning in circles. All the while Odiums forces reform and we are wasting our chance for real advancement in this war. Do they still not understand what is at stake? ”

“You are slipping into the Blackthorn again, father. Now we need the Bondsmith, who can unit instead of divide.”

Outside the mists, a truly rare site in Urithuri, swirled and the slow breeze produced flapping sounds of the new banners with the insignia of the reformed Knights Radiants hung outside.

“Easier said than done. I almost fear, that a our victory in Thaylen City was too easy. The common soldier already start too see us more as gods than men.”

Twice again the banners flapp in the wind, but Dalinar thought he heard something else out there in the grey.

“But father I am not sure if you still classify as mere men,” Adolin interjected and something small broke through the window outside and dropped to the floor. A small circular piece of metal engraved with the portrait of someone.

The instincts of the soldier took over and they leaped to there feet. He sucked in stormlight and Adolin reached to the side summoning his shardblade. Quickly they moved back into the room to get more space for the following fight. He just wanted to shout for the guards, but what crashed through the window left him unable to speak.

It was a strange looking man with a mad grin on his face. Strange was the mans grey cloak made of dozens of tassels only sown together at the very top. Stranger yet were the scars swirling around his arms partially covered by bands of metal. But the strangest thing was the coiled spike, made from different metals just like the bands, stuck in the mans right eye. In his hand he carried a spike fitted around the head with another piece of metal.

“What do you want?”, Adolin demanded to know, but the attacker just raised the spike pointing it towards his son still more than a dozen feet apart. Then the spike shot forward from his hand directly through his sons skull, dropping Adolin and his shardblade to the floor. It did not vanish, his son was dead.

Before he could react the spike flew back towards the man, but instead of catching it he let it pierce his own chest. Finally he crumbled to his knees next to his firstborns corpse, glaring at the stranger demanding only on thing: “Why?”

And he spoke with a familiar voice: “If you take on of mine, I shall take on of yours, my friend.” It was Odiums voice. “Choose your champions wisely, Dalinar. For I have chosen mine.” With these words the stranger, Odium, raised his hand once more and Mayalaran, the last that remained of his son, flew into his hand and dissolved into treacherous mist. The assassin turned into a blur and speed out on the balcony, stopped, smiled once more and then shot up into the air like an arrow. Blinded by tears he stumbled after him outside. There he found his guards dead and scrawled in their blood stood the words: “Give me your pain.”

I like Kelsier becoming essentially everything he hated and if Ruin and Harmony can control someone spiked amybe Odium can too.

  7. My theory is that Ambition is the most dangerous shard and will eventually reform. But lets first examine what we know about Ambition and Shards in general.

Shard come from the shattering of Adonalsium, which seems to have been a last ditch effort. The people who did it seemed really scared and that is why they did such an extreme thing as breaking a god. We know that a vessel is slowly taken over by the intent of its shard.

What we know about Ambition: She was killed by Odium shortly after the Shattering of Adonalsium and atleast some shards think, that it is for the better. Now she is splintered.

Ambition is defined as "an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment" (dictionary). So where can you go when you are already a shard of a god and extremely powerful. The only logical thing is that Ambition would at some point have tried to accumulate all the shards power and to recreate the power of Adonalsium. ( And then perhaps try to take on his opposing force, which could have catastrophic consequences. ) Which the vessels are strictly opposed too. Not only did the shatter Adonalsium in the first place, they even made a pact to settle different planets. I know that merging shards powers would result in a changed intent, but that should take an equally long time as the take over of the original intent. What makes her more dangerous than Odium is, that Rayse doesnt want to accumulate the other shards powers, he just wants to destroy them.

But Ambition is splintered. And here the second letter from Oathbringer comes into play. Im just going to quote it here for ease.

Cephandrius, bearer of the First Gem,

You must know better than to approach us by relying upon presumption of past relationship. You have spoken to one who cannot respond. We, instead, will take your communication to us – though we know not how you located us upon this world. We are indeed intrigued, for we thought it well hidden. Insignificant among our many realms. As the waves of the sea must continue to surge, so must our will continue resolute.
    Alone.

Did you expect anything else from us? We need not suffer the interference of another. Rayse is contained, and we care not for his prison. Indeed, we admire his initiative. Perhaps if you had approached the correct one of us with your plea, it would have found favorable audience. But we stand in the sea, pleased with our domains. Leave us alone. We also instruct that you should not return to Obrodai. We have claimed that world, and a new avatar of our being is beginning to manifest there. She is young yet, and--as a precaution--she has been instilled with an intense and overpowering dislike of you. This is all we will say at this time. If you wish more, seek these waters in person and overcome the tests we have created.     Only in this will you earn our respect.

So it is written by somethingwith multiple pieces ( one who cannot responed, we will take your communication to us ). The begings admire Rayses initiative, which sounds very similar to Ambition and they say, that Hoid can earn their respect through overcoming tests, which also sounds like something ambitious to undertake. Obvoiusly I believe that the splinters of Ambition are the authors of this letter.

But the most interesting parts are:

"A new avatar of our being is beginning to manifest"

"As the waves of the seas must continue to surge, so must our will continue resolute. Alone."

I think the splinters of Ambition are trying to reform the shard of Ambition with this new avatar on Obrodai and then become the only being (will) in existence. The last part is a bit out there, but I thought i would mention it. So how could Ambition reform from her splinters ( The both the original vessel of Ambition and the new avatar are female. )? I think it will probably be a mini version of Odiums fight against the over shards with one splinter of Ambition fighting the other, merging with it, until only one remains, which will merge with the avatar and become the new Shard of Ambition. I would go so far as predicting, that Ambition 2.0 will not need to overcome the vessels psyche as they specifically created her for that purpose and seem to be able to influence her. ( dislike of Hoid )

    TL,DR

Ambition will reform on Obrodai and cause major trouble in the cosmere.

What do you think about this theory? Am I onto something or is this complete garbage?

  8. If cryptics real feed upon lies, the one travelling / bonded with Hoid will need to work out a lot or go supersize.

I think that Hoids truths will be used to reveal more about his backstory, because it will take a while until we get our hands on the books where it is told. Just so Brandon can throw us some bones.

  9. @Fulminato If not for the WOB I would say that was for show, but how did she then soulcast like a boss during the climax of Oathbringer? I know she had unlimited stormlight, but where did she get the gems? There were a ton of spheres lying around, but I thought you would need a bigger gem for a bigger feat of soulcasting and not just the rather small moneyspheres.

  10. 2 hours ago, Aleksiel said:

I think Kal started using his second surge.

Soulcasting is nerfed by the fact it requires certain gems not just stormlight. Yes, Jasnah was almost like an avenging angle. I suspect she'll be the best at this and others with the same surge won't be as good as her. Otherwise EC would single handedly end a Desolation

I was bothered by the sudden change of scope of Shallan's illusions - last book she couldn't even make them stay if she wasn't looking or attached them to Pattern. I know she said a new Truth at the end of WoR, but still...

I don't think Dalinar will able to replicate what he did, it feels too powerful to be frequently used, although this would mean there's a need for a in-world explanation why it can't happen regularly.

Something I had a problem with was Amaram suddenly becoming super powerful. I don't think the whole swallowing a sphere to merge/bond/whatever with Unmade was handled well, it felt like a plot device. Yes, we saw the queen do it, but it just didn't work for me.

I think the soul casting nerf of needing special gemstone for it applies only to people using an actual soulcaster and not Knights Radiant, who can soulcast. Neither Shallan nor Jasnah use any gem, when they soulcast. Jasnah did in WoK, but that seemed to be for show and not an actual requirement, since Shallan could soulcast the ship in WoR and Jasnah does as she pleases in Oathbringer.

Personally I find the Honorblade plus Radiant power combination the most interesting, because Sezth wants to get revenge on his Shin masters and not taking the honorblades would be stupid. They could pass one around like a hot potato.

    @Ookla the Hatter

I wasnt even thinking about Shards, because they are kind of out of everyones league.

  11. Just finished reading Oathbringer and it really stands out how much powercreep (= always increasing strength of characters) there is. Lets have a look:

    1. Kaladin can somehow windbend? I mean he did that weird thing at the end of part 1, but it is still a very minor power increase for him compared to others.

    2. Shallan could be pretty useful given that, with enough stormlight, she can imitate entire armies and soulcast.

    3. Jasnah is a machine. Seriously here Soulcasting seems incredibly overpowered. I mean she soulcasts some random dudes into smoke. And what about the transportation surge. It should be able to do something else than just get you to shadesmar and then not being able to get you back. Just imagine Jasnah in shardplate with her Ivorybalde teleporting and soulcasting all over the place.

    4. Szeth. Okay he lost adhesion, but got divison, which seems to be way better in combat. Normally he would be bound and limited by law, but he swore to Dalinar. So Dalinar could just tell him: "Yeah. I think it is cool, when you kill this political opponent of mine"

    5. Dalinar. So he is now some weird Knight Radiant, Stormfather and Honor hybrid, who can merge realms, supercharge you with stormlight and controls the frigging assassin in white.

If not for Dalinars battery ability, Stormlight would be a limiting factor, but now it is not. And then there is Nale, who bonded Honorblade and is a Knight Radiant. So you could have acces to 4 surges, if you are a Knights Radiant and get your hands on an Honorblade. And does Hoid really need surgebinding powers? I mean he is probably already a full feruchemist and mistborn. Be now you could just give him the fatman from fallout. Until now I thought feruchemy was the most powerful magic in the cosmere, but now I would give it to elsecallers order. The most powerful, but not the most useful, that is still feruchemy.

To be clear I dont hate it, but I am concerned that it could become a problem down the line. What do you think?

  12. These chapters had quite the lovecraftian or cthulhuesc feel to it with all the smoke, darkness and approximation of animals and humans.

My theory on why Shallan and Renarin can sense the weirdness, but not Dalinar is the powerlevel of the spren. Both Shallan and Renarin bonded pretty normal run-of-the-mill spren. Where as Dalinar bonded the spren of the Almight, a being far more powerfull than most others. So maybe the ability to feel the unmade is similar to a beetle in a spidernet, a feeling of "I should not be here", where as Dalinar would be the human, who just sweeps away the net without noticing it.

  13. 11 hours ago, MasterJack said:

I love where this discussion went. After all of these points, I totally agree that Feruchemy is the most versatile. And binge-watching, that's a great point. However, at what point would you be able to store sight and not inconvenience yourself? Same with health. Although, I still agree. Although if I had a ready source of infinite Stormlight, I would prefer Surgebinding, in the modern world however, I think Feruchemy is the best. (I would also never fail a test :) )

Take it from someone with glasses, who didnt realize he needed them for about a year, if you only store a small amount of sight (I'm assuming you would become shortsighted.) you wouldnt notice. Same with health if you just store the proverbial drop in the ocean, but do this everyday for hours it will add up without too much inconvenience. Also your mention of sight gave me an idea.

Imagine you eat something really delicious and you could just draw from your stored up sense of smell and taste. How much more pleasurable would that be. There are probably more applications of this .... - especially with touch and smell. :P

  14. Feruchemy is my pick of choice. It is just the most versatile power. You can store breath, health, food, water, warmth for adventuring. The mental powers are awesome for most scholar activities. And with the combat abilities you can probably one-shot a full shardbearer. Use speed to get behind him and then a huge amount of strenght to flatten him. Remember Sazed killed a koloss with a single hit. Or just pull a Kaladin and stab him through the eyeslit using super speed.

And the saving up stuff could be easily done during normal life. Just think about how much you can store up while bingewatching your favourite show.

  15. I'm on board with the herald part, but I think it's Jezrien.

Quote from my Oatbringer Chaper 1-3 post:

Does anyone else think, that Odiums Champion could be one of the heralds, who bonded Odiums personal spren? Like Odiums version of the stormfather. It would also explain why the champion casts nine shadows as the unmade are splinters of Odium. I could imagine, that one of the heralds tried to bind Odiums spren in order to weak him, but was overpowered by Odium and is know his puppet. That, in combination with Dalinars apparent earlier addiction to the thrill, could also explain why he looks so familiar to Dalinar. I just assume that most representations (statues, paintings, ...) of the heralds are relativly accurate since Shalash is going around destroying them.

My most likely candidate for this is Jezrien. For once he is the leader of the heralds and it would send quite the message, if Odium could corrupt him. Secondly he is associated with protecting and leading, which inversed would be something like destroying and dividing or betray and splinter.

Then there are these two quotes:

    Quote

"Better that one man should suffer than ten," Jezrien whispered. He seemed so cold. Like a shadow caused by heat and light falling on someone honourable and true, casting this black imitation behind.

    Quote

It is likely that he had a strong sense of morality at some point, both as leader of men and of the Heralds as seen manifest in his shame in leaving behind his old friend to suffer.

His description seems to fit the description of the champion pretty well and he appears to be ashamed, that he betrayed the world. Combined with his believe, that "better that one man should suffer than ten" he could have tried to bind Odium or atleast a part of Odium ( Isn't Odium refered to as the "broken one"? ) to save the world, but ultimately became his pawn.

    So what do you think?

  17. Hi,

So I just finished rereading the Edgedancer novella and came across the scene, where Lift and Wyndle dicuss his shardform.

He mentions, that he has to be metal and that there is a connection between a sprens power, when condensed and metal.

That made me wonder, if this could relate to the metallc arts. Like what would happen if a Mistborn would try to burn a living shardblade.

Or what characteristics you could store in a shardblade. It would probably relate to the surgebinding abilities, that the blade grants.

And does a shardblade work like a hemalurgic spike? And assuming that the honorblades are made of Honors Godmetal would the shardblades be considered an alloy of it?

    What do you think?

Ps: Hopefully my English isnt to bad.
