  1. I watch the back and forth between Jefferey and Fadran wordlessly. Amusement sparks within me, but I keep it from rising to the surface. "You think that you can hide yourself in her realm? How long you keep such a mirage up? Her being is tied to the realm additional souls have a weight to them. If they exist their weight will eventually be detected. Reality behaves oddly in divine mindscapes more so than in average mindscapes. I have experimented with it in the past."
  2. "There is more to it than that. Your emotions are going to cloud your judgement. You are so consumed by anger toward Rish that you may very well making a critical mistake. Emotions are important, but if they are going to impact your judgement then they will be a liability to us all."
  3. "I did not doubt that we would save her the question of whether or not it is objectively a good idea to have her father on the front lines when we do is a different matter."
  4. My softened gaze meets Jefferey's fiery one. I don't back down. As much strength as he is projecting in anger I am projecting in something far less harsh and scathing. "That's not enough, but it will have to be for now. If we are going to help you then you have to let us. Each one of us will have to play a role. Yours will be crucial. However, I don't think that it would be wise to have you on an assault force to rescue your daughter." I turn to Fadran. "This will have to be voted on of course." "I turn back to Jefferey.
  5. My voice lowers and softens. "Do you wonder why I kept these a secret. This is why. I do listen and will continue to listen. I care about your daughter. I do not want you to be the reason that something happens to her."
  6. A flicker of annoyance cuts through my neutrality. "You rescue her, by not losing control and working with us. Your going it alone will kill your daughter. I don't know how someone so wise can be such a fool. We care about her as well. Your holier than thou self righteousness is the height of hubris. You can't do it alone!! You can pretend all that you want that you don't feel guilty about the time spent away from her and that you are not letting that cloud your judgement, but I know the truth. You would doom her because you want to be a god." My voice thunders and my weariness shrivels away.
  7. I chuckle though it lacks warmth. "You think me secretive. I revealed two methods both of which carry heavy risks. My keeping the information to myself has nothing to do with being stubborn. There are secrets which are too dangerous to simply reveal. I broached it, but do not expect that I will hand you all of the secrets that you wish to be privy to."
  8. "No. We were discussing how one might break into a mindscape. We do not have a plan of action."
  9. I ignore his tone and grimace once again. "I was unaware that Fadran was going to question me to that end. You have every right to be a part of any plan to rescue her."
  10. I grimace in fatigue for a moment. "Unfortunately, the creation of a wholly new mindscape is not so simple and in fact practically impossible for anyone to pull off anymore. You may be able to manipulate your own mindscape space to create a chamber or set of chambers that others may be able to enter as you describe so strangely." I banish the winds as Jefferey turns toward me. "Yes."
  11. "I am not sure that I could handle it just now. In a couple of hours I may be in a slightly better position to do it."
  12. "It could be done quickly and discreetly. I could do it in moments. The warning of course is that in my current state it will take a lot out of me."
  13. "It is hard to know with her. She was always more arrogant concerning her abilities than she ever had the right to be."
  14. "The safest method of accessing a mindscape where there is no option of trying to trick the mindscape is by trying to use the hidden backdoors that my wife and I built into certain primordial mindscapes. We were cautious in giving so much power to the ancient ones so we built in back doors. They were subtle to be sure though it is possible that they were found and sealed. The second method is truly dangerous. It involves harvesting the power of a primordial mindscape and using it as a single concentrated attack to shatter the defenses of the mindscape that one wishes to breach."
  15. The winds obscure our voices at my command. "That is not an easy task. In theory there are two methods that certain mindscapes could be broken into. However, there are risks involved."
  16. I say nothing at all as we are transported . The clipped response that Jefferey may have thought to be cold barbs or some kind of angry response that would instill some kind of fear in me makes the slightest amount of dark mirth bubble up within me. Was I ever that self righteous? Yes, I remember it well. Let us see what becomes of his righteous indignation. My face is a mask of pure neutrality.
  17. I have not. The person below me has eaten raw pasta.
  18. When we stopped our trek before a weathered boulder I issued a command to the wind which sets off the slightest of breezes. All voices that are close by the wind does grab and into my ears carry their messages. I hear Jeffery's words and yet I cannot stir emotions. All passion is dulled and when I have the winds make my words known to Jeffery alone they are truly neutral in nature. "What is your game? Do you think that I owe you some debt? Perhaps you seek to force my hand to act. You are still playing games whose stakes you have no comprehension of. Tell the Fellowship what happened here and who knows maybe they will send me into exile. If your goal is to shame me into doing your will then I am afraid you have wasted your time." The breeze abruptly dies and I push my emotions further down into the void.
  19. I cannot. The person below me has tried and failed to get a friend into Brandon.
  20. My eyes take in the carnage without emotion. Nothing shocks me or even inspires tears to rise. The beast secure where he is struggles, but he soon stops. The time for tears are over. "Hold on to that self-righteous indignation of yours. When all else fails it will allow you to sleep at night. For a long time I held this kind of conviction. It allowed me to never question the way that I was pointed as a weapon and set loose. I let it go because I learned that for all that I knew and that I thought that I knew there was much that I did not understand. Questions of guilt became so much less simple. Lay this destruction at my feet if you desire to do so and imagine that you'll sleep better. However, if you imagine that I am the only one to blame for what has happened here then you are a fool. Examine your hands and ask yourself if you are truly less bloodstained than I."
  21. Week 5 Poem # 5

                                                        Coronation?

The mountains crumble beneath my feet and the cosmos are nullified by my every breath. Kingdoms cry out and drown the mortal plane in sounds that I drink with the relish of one who has known nothing but thirst. City walls shatter before me in wonderful ways that grant me ever more power. My voice rings out over all taking for itself a throne that I consider anathema. Rage burning and unending lashes out and scorches she who bore me as I prepare for war.

Terrible usurpers come to take that which is mine by birthright though they rightfully tremble as I rise to meet them. A blinding bolt bleeds the sky dry of the purest ichor and throws across my back a lash which nicks my flesh as only the slightest of cuts. From the upper regions comes a false lord whose avarice raised me from the dust to be his destroyer. I swat him down, striking him without mercy, and tear trenches that reach into my father’s very being to paint the world in ancient blood.

Waves and mother’s trembling seek to wound me. A second brother chills me with powers that embolden my anger. Iron daggers tear into him as I smite him when he gets close enough to see the spirit of death in my eyes. He is tossed about and his golden toy falls away from his grasp. Fire streams about me as I set loose the might of the flames that rest in the heart of she who gave me life. We are wreathed in thick burning clouds as the last one comes to do battle.

Upon his brow is a helm that stuns me where I stand. Horrific things that I cannot even describe appear before me. Ice robs my form of all strength and when I lash out it is feeble as one just born. Renewed vigor quickly returns to me as I teach him fear. Vast forests are splinters when his body is unable to escape my wrath. His bones and those of his brothers creak filling the world with the sweetest of melodies. Sweat, blood, and tears fall as libations to one who would not have them.

As one they turn on me. Crashing drums fused with jagged spears maul me in concert with exploding earth and icy blades that are peeling my flesh. Every step that I take is now in retreat. As night flees and dawn comes a final contest does begin. The one who stands upon the air alone does fight this day. Bolts of silver fire burn me as razor winds tear most into me most deeply. Hailstones prepare my burial as I fall into the depths with vengeance in my mind. An inferno smokes as the father of all monsters plots to rise again.

Very nice. I believe you are continuing your theme of doing mythology related poems, correct? I am almost certainly wrong, but I read this as a fight between our Narrator and a team of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. The second paragraph makes me think Zeus, cuz lighting. Third paragraph is vague, but the ‘golden toy’ line makes me think it’s Poseidon’s Trident. And then the 4th paragraph mentions a Helm, and I think I remember something about Hades having a fancy magic Helm.

I don’t know who the villain is though. They continuously refer to the earth as their mother, so one of Gaea’s children? So one of the....*searches the deepest recesses of my memory for when I read Percy Jackson 8 years ago*...Titans? I don’t know enough to figure out exactly who, but I think I’m on the right track. Maybe.

You are on the right track. The triumvirate of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades are in play. The Narrator is Typhon who is known as the last verse says as the father of all monsters.
