  4. You open a university where you teach the future leaders of the world everything that you have learned. In time every citizen clamors to learn that which you have taught to the elite. This leads to a new and greater age. These ghosts are integrated into society and the world becomes a much better and more inventive place. A letter appears in your mailbox one day. In it a distant cousin who you don't know well tells you that they have discovered a cache of old books and papers written by an ancestor 2300 years before. They were hidden and only recently rediscovered. As a professor of ancient languages and culture they contacted you. You travel to them and discover that the papers contain spells that can make their speaker the ruler of an unending empire. There is a warning that should you do this you can never go back to what you were before. What do you do?
  5. I think that you show yourself quite capable of critique. I look forward to anything more should you give it. Also to catch updates follow me and or the thread.
  6. This reminds me of a folktale: There was once a miser who at a certain point in time had been desperately poor. He went to the chief religious authority of his town and asked that he should pray for god to alleviate his poverty. The authority agreed and a short time later this man's fortune began to turn. He became tremendously wealthy though unfortunately at the same time he became most stingy with his money. There came a time when the communal coffers were empty. Everyone who came to his home was turned away empty handed. Finally, the community turned to the religious authority whom this man had gone to for help. He knocked on the door and surprisingly was shown into the house. They went to the man's parlor and he asked what brought the leader here. Instead of answering he lead the man to a mirror and asked him what he saw. He replied that he saw himself. He then led him to a window and asked him again what he saw. The man replied that he saw people going about their business. The authority asked why is there a difference between the window and the mirror after all both are made of glass. The man replied that the mirror was coated with silver which made it reflective while the mirror was not and was therefore clear. The authority said the same is true of you. When you were ungilded you saw other people like the window. Now when you are gilded you are no better than than that mirror. You see only yourself. Perhaps you would be better served if you are returned to your original state. The man breaks down and admits that he has been blinded by his wealth. He swears to change his ways if he is left as he is. He gives a massive sum to the religious authority and from that day on he looked beyond himself when others were in need.

  13. Incorrect though that was a nice try. Anyone else?
  14. I corrected it in any case however: Name the emperors of the julian line.
  15. My research shows Isildur to have appeared in the lord of the rings books. As for my hobbit characters your wording of the question did not make the hobbit off limits. However, Boromir, caretaker of minas tirith, Rohan's king (whose name I forget), Rohan's king's daughter, Elrond's daughter (whose name I forget)
  16. Frodo, Tom bombadil, Elrond, Sarumon, Gandalf, Bilbo, Aragorn, Gimli, Gollum, Samwise gamgi, the Balrog, Sauron, The ringwraith who attacks minas tirith, Smaug, Bard, Galadriel, Isildur, Oakenshield the king under the mountain, Master of Laketown's , The ghost king who was damned until his oath was fulfilled.
  17. Another body blow! I had a promising job lead late this week after receiving 3 or 4 rejection emails. I woke up early, got dressed up. and made a 2 1/2 hour trip to the recruiter's office. We were supposed to create a packet for her to send to the firm offering the job. Turns out that that morning the job had been offered to someone else! I woke up early, got dressed up, made the trip for nothing and was made to wait by the recruiter while I could have been looking for further opportunities!! Sometimes life really does a check to make sure that I'm not too complacent and it sucks!!!!
