Poem 23
Restoration
Choking hands of terra cotta sand reach across the realm and strangle all life from even those who are meant to hold back this darkness. The lord of the skies is gripped by the throat his falcon head buried as his body is cast down into an unmarked tomb. No sound comes from the mouth of the earth when he is encircled by barbed chains that rip away his godly flesh. Winds stricken by evil race about taking more victims on behalf of its lord. Jackel lord of those who pass into the lower world your form broken by the unrelenting fist that even Set succumbed to can alas receive no burial. Apophis your dead eyes peer into nothing, but the coldest void when you are utterly consumed. Master of all primordial gods your light is gone and your barge falls from on high onto a landscape sundered beyond even your darkest nightmares. Temples lay ruined and their worshippers are scattered to the farthest corners of this ascendant damnation. Cities sit in silence abandoned as those who live, hide in barrows beneath the earth.
Dirges rise from Isis as she and Osiris weep over their dead and wait for their ends to come and claim them, but even as they cry out something reignites the fire of Ra. That vessel of the sun flies upward with a queen dressed in the finest silk glowing standing tall on its deck. She begins a beautiful song that pushes back the sands and exposes the thing in its heart. Music unrelenting as an army of legions armed by the mightiest gods smite the spirit before the disk of Amun sets it aflame. Isis stands now and casts curses upon it even as the song grants her more power than she would have thought possible. Beams of energy lacerate and draw noxious blood from its accursed veins. Nephthys calls locusts and mighty storms that strike it with a ferocity that causes all of Maat to tremble. Bast bursts forth and drives it to its knees while vultures come and rob it of its ability to gaze upon them anymore. Ammit takes its soul in its jaws and returns to the depths while Egypt’s new ruler rebuilds for now and all time.
