Were the Ardents during/after the Recreance comprise of KR?
Passion replied to ScavellTane's topic in Stormlight Archive
I mostly disagree because from all we now about oathbringer it needs to have been caused by something which can really shake up the current radients dramatically. Mistakenly thinking the desolations are over would be meaningless to kal or any radient who discovers it -
I would love to see herelds in action wanna see someone go to nightwatcher see kaladin get shardplate see actual voidbringers other than the parshendi almost voidbringers we've seen so far get to the role rysn will play already oh and I gotta agree hood meeting lift would be awesome

[OB] Scenes that you do not want to see in Oathbringer
Passion replied to Nathrangking's topic in Stormlight Archive
I do not want stage time for renarin or jasna or sezth to take away from any of the characters who already have the floor though they will undoubtly eventually get their time. -
Was rereading the eshonai chapters and was shocked by how many things I missed. One thing that stood out is that eshonai clearly implies venly was already being manipulated by the unmade even before getting storm form. It's noted venly didn't seem to chafe much after getting storm form and also that venly couldn't have pos. Figured out stormform just from the fragmented listener songs alone. one question I have is that the date of the parshendi escape from the unmade by transforming into full form is placed at centuries ago(I'm coming from the chapters where eshonai gets some details from her mother) but then it was long after the last desolation ended because that was millenniums ago... so they were controlled by unmadeway after desolation ended and were being destroyed still? That's strange one more thing I noted is that eshonai doesn't know who gave them their songs bec before their escape they knew nothing of the forms of power and needed the unmade to transform so any one have any ideas who did teach them the songs and the little info they had(this is also from the same chapter as conversation with mom- I think) p.s. I had assumed the whole time the parshendi didn't know Sezth was using an honorblade but noticed that when trying to assess how kaladin used his surges they note it can be an honorblade bec. Those are around and they themselves left one floating around the capital

Just to continue with some other characters Least favorite character: (I gave enough praise this doesn't count as bashing. Also every book has one Jasna definitely. she is slightly one dimensional but to be fair it's probably cuz she just hasn't got enough screen time but still she wasn't very likeable and I I feel all we know know about her is she is an atheist till he personifies her a little bit it won't get better. I think it's very telling my two favorite jasna scenes are the orolougue and end scene with wit. They both have the something in common 1 shallon isn't there to idolize her 2 she looks vulnerable. All this being said there is plenty of room for my opinion to change in. Coming books. I've got faith Brandon! Character I wish for bigger role: I gotta pick Navani. She seems cool composed and a player yet she hasn't played a major role in anything yet and we don't know her motivation for anything (we don't know why she picked gavilar then and come to think of it we don't know exactly what appeals to her about dalinor now. We don't really know what she thinks of elhokar her own bungling son- sadly all we get that's concrete is she does clearly mourn Jasna.) my main hope is we finally get some thing from dalinors flashbacks Main don't: don't make elhoker a radient. Don't make him a hero. Though to be fair he doesn't need to end up a complete bungler. Let him just end up normal, not talented enough to really accomplish but enough sometimes success to be almost like us typical folk An almost 0athbringer spoiler

Love to hear other people's takes but...everything you criticize about SYL is what actually makes her great. Just saying

What makes you think that about Shalash?

Just wondering does anyone think we will see hereldic action this back( or atall what if brandon makes it so the kr need to carry on the fight mostly alone?). What about the unmade when do we get to them(never mind odium himself seeing him is way beyond even my ambitions) ? I gotta say if we don't get to see unmade until the very end of oathbringer and also barely any hereldic action I will literally die waiting 2/3 years for the next book(though when I'm honest in know that'll happen regardless) someone please offer me hope these scenes I desperately crave are coming soon??

I'm tired of repeating things other people have said about my favorite characters only to realize I completely disagree. Thought I would out some of my own pet analysis out there. Hope you like it. ADOLIN: he is not one of my favorite characters but I greatly appr. What he adds. Think about it...the other male characters are in a way one dimensional dalinor and kaladin are way to stubborn/broken/lost in their own point of view adolin offsets this bu being just normal. He is good at what he does fighting yet in a way at a disadvantage do to his lack of 'abnormal' abilities. I am most impressed with the way Sanderson wrote him so that on one hand he appears mostly simple and not politically savvy(watch the way he always reacts on instinct and not thought.) yet actually looks very smart because he is alwAys helping dalinor out of his wacky viewpoint. He only manages this cuz he is very normal. Hope he does not become radient; want him normal and unbroken just the way he is. SYL: I think Brandon did this perfect their was great potential to make spren to godlike and allknowing. Yet the balance is perfect. Brandon did give them power and mystery yet he gave them just the right amount of mystery. SYL is my favorite example of this. Look at how influenced she is by kaladins viewpoint and opinion of light eyes and adolin and everything. It's brilliantly done KALADIN: he is my favorite character. I am super impressed how Brandon wrote such a stubborn man and one dimensional outlook and yet made him so multifaceted. I love it when he is so driven by his light eyes hatred, so singleminded in focus and then does something that has depth and character without even acknowledging it for its sophistication. Brandon makes it feel in character and just right i actually have a lot more to say but as this post is long enough I'll end with this thought. Reading the oathbringer chapters as they r released three at Atime has changed my reading experience just making me savor each little bit. It has made me realize how so much really happens in so little bit of plot development it's awesome and unreal go Brandon

Saw the name Vivenna mentioned in a different thread as people tried to identify her...well i always thought there was nothing tricky about this one because she's right where she belongs near zahel! If you recall there's a female ardent around with zahel who contributes to kaladins initial training when zahel is working with others.kaladin even notes with surprise that a female is trained in the way if the sword which of course makes her gender and association with zahel interesting. Am I way off on this one?

I actually never meant to post it twice I wanted it to be in storm light forum cuz it will get more veiws and hopefully more responses. It only ended up on oathbringer spoiler board by accident... I couldn't figure out how to delete ut(I'm relatively new around here) what do I do to get rid of it?

theory Reflections of Vorinism and the Shades of the Knights Radiant
Passion replied to Pagerunner's topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree strongly with extesion that the recreance must be something that they decided made it better for roshar to gave no radients -
As we get closer to oathbringer I am getting more worried about many details in the books I missed details that others here have long since 'canonized' and deemed obvious and so I send out this plea for help to collect info on: 1) why does everyone know the herelds are crazy was that stated indisputedly in the books or from wob? Also what else do we know about their madness? 2)what do we know about Gavilar... have we been told exactly what he was trying to do with the pars he si before his assasination? What ever info gavilar had about oarshendi do we know how he got it? And what exactly was his telationship with amaram? 3) last but not least what do we know about seethe. Everyone seems to know more about him than me/understand him better. I feel like I failed a reading comprehension class(or maybe just read to darned fast) because I found his character confusing incoherent which made reading his chapters meaningless to me.... so ya'al gotta humor me and do some explaining; do we know what it even means to be truth less? Was he actually bound to that rock thing to kill or just plain psycho? Wait if he's psycho was that something he became while truthless or was he psycho from the beginning even b4 he did the stuff which made him truthless? Come to think of it what did he do? Did anyone actually follow all the chapters to trace his full sequence of owners(I read too fast and lazy)? What he szeths situation at end of wor ? Oh and last but not least... what the heck do we know about the shin people anyways? p.s. I know ranting about Seth who seems to be a popular character will not really be too popular but can please show me a little Cuz I'm just a poor fan overwhelmed by Brandon's emense work and happen to be stuck currently as a lowly spearman!

I agree with whiteleapard that it seems a bit strange that they all betrayed at the same time and there were no self sacrificing kr. I also want to point out that we are presented with the narrative from the Soren perspective as one of complete betrayal with no recognition of any basis if the recreance had some self justified basis even if the Spren who were harmed don't see it that way they still wouldn't come across so self righteously indignant with no recognition what so ever one guess I've been pondering is the possibilities the knight radians thought to gain something in the fight with odium dirs any one no any connection between the radiant siren and odium or of any side benefit to abandoning soren in their fight with odium

I definitely think the best way to keep amaram relevant is to make him high prince. The difficulties and conflict with Dali or are exactly what an author needs and wants (though I feel like a spoilsport and a cheat for doing something so pragmatic as looking at it from authors perspective!)

Hi I'm still hereld obsessed and here's what I have been pondering recently 1)what did the herelds expect when they broke the oathpact. Did they expect to still be alive by the next desalation if yes then did they have any sort of plan for handling it? 2) if yes what did they think taln would say to them when he found them by the next desolation(I can't wait for that scene in the next book) 3)did they think this breaking of the oathpact was reversible?i was pondering this specifically when I reread the prolouge to work where Janna hears the 2 embasadors talking about taking back his sword. Since everyone seems to think they are herelds that sounds like they think the breaking if the oathpact can be fixed. Do you agree with this? And if yes do you think they always knew this from the beginning(That they can always fix their betrayal if they change their mind)

Response anybody am I way off, right,or just dealing with to little known facts ?!?
-
Yah your right I see now that that's all his saying though I'm kind of bummed cuz I thought for a sec he was saying something more. Tell me you've made mistakes like that to it'll make me feel better oh and I'm also annoyed to have to go back to combing won hoping and praying for a tiny morsel of anything new
-
Ok so they could still call them but what's he saying that they are only part of the iathpact that's still a question right?
-
Q: And, how were the Radiants able to summon their Shardblades at the Recreance if they'd already decided to break their oaths?A: Their Shardblades are part of what brought them to--part of the Oathpact--but breaking the Oathpact did not affect their ability to bond or unbond Shardblades. hey I was scrolling through wob when I stumbled across this anybody now what he means when he says shardblades are only part of oathpact and breaking it doesn't stop u from summoning it??
-
Well I think it's not that they are bound odium but that they voluntair to do it as part of their pact with honor. I see it as part of the battle with odium that by going to his hell they gain something and they agree to send themselves there(or if they die they empower honor/somebody for them). Since they themselves accepted it as part of the pact when it gets to difficult they try to take back their commitment to honor that are breaking the oact so at the risk of being repetitive the main point of my theory is they do it to themselves because it nets them something in their fight with odium i personally keep on waffling whether I think it nets them something in the actual fight(a chance at odium) or just helps mankind by delaying desolations oh and by the way I kind of meant all this in my original post but tried to hard to keep it short. That and I worded it badly
-
Why is everyone only focusing on whether the oathpact keeps odium in roshar. He is clearly somehow involved/affected/some other undefined connection as is born out by what we see that the oathpact sends the herelds to his torture. I am seriously perplexed how a deal between honor and herelds includes that!?!!!!!???????
