Frozen 2 and Oathbringer (SPOILERS FOR FROZEN 2 AND OATHBRINGER)
Massik replied to balletdragon's topic in Stormlight Archive
Theres some overlap in archetypes, I suppose, but that could be said of most fantasy. The new generation has to save the world from an evil set in motion by past misdeeds- they're helped by a few mentors/leaders/some ancient trurh until they come into their own.- 9 replies

So, I was troubleshooting this PA that was drawing too much current, burning filters and popping transistors, and I start looking down the RF path, and notice a transformer turn that doesn't look quite right on the grounding. I got to unsolder it to move its placement for better grounding. I'm using flux and a fat solder tip, but the center wire/solder just isn't getting hot enough for the wick to suck up the solder. I look closer, and..... yep, they put a transformer with the wrong bent on. Basically, the center wire and shielding are all on the ground plane, effectively taking the turn completely out of circuit, causing and imbalance and super poor efficiency. No wonder making power was impossible to do without burning up components......

I think the phrase, 'Unite Them" is cosmere wide. Ultimately, yes- I think Adonalsium must he re-united.

Formation of the Ire (question- SH+Elantris Spoils)
Massik replied to Massik's topic in Cosmere Discussion
There should be two shardpools. And it could be possible that worldhoppers use the second, but we still don't have any confirmation on whether it's been utilized. A part of me wonders if the skaze and the Fjiordel bone runes are corrupted versions of seons and aeons. We know Odium splintered Devotion and Dominion, so I wonder how much investiture Odium may have expended in doing so, and whether it left its fingerprint on Sel. -
Formation of the Ire (question- SH+Elantris Spoils)
Massik replied to Massik's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't disagree that it is accessible. I'm just curious on how accessible, or what factors may or may not have led to them becoming more accessible in the gap. I started this asking about Reod era Elantrians becoming Ire. But, I'm aware it's all supposition. How accessible (eh?) is the arcanum coppermind? -
Formation of the Ire (question- SH+Elantris Spoils)
Massik replied to Massik's topic in Cosmere Discussion
This is true, but we don't know what happened in on Sel between Elantris and him showing up at Purelake. -

Formation of the Ire (question- SH+Elantris Spoils)
Massik replied to Massik's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Perhaps he just had to leave, to pull strings elsewhere? Consider any (though not all) taken up by the Shaod are adults. I don't believe there is a pre-determined amount of time in which to become Elantrian. I think it more likely he had to do something elsewhere and wasn't able to become Elantrian in the time he (was) allotted to do so. Perhaps the Reod did weaken the perpendicularity. But then, how did Hoid make it there to begin with? Was he stuck on Sel for 10 years, or can you still come in through a perpendicularity that you can't leave through? -
Formation of the Ire (question- SH+Elantris Spoils)
Massik replied to Massik's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Thanks for the info, all. I guess I had assumed the Ire were post Reod castoffs, because if that organization was around prior to it, i would have figured when the Reod did hit, and the Eleantrians were being overthrown, they would have just left via the perpendicularity. -
The Ire, as we know are Elantrians that were thrown into the Shardpool once their pain after the Reod became too much to bear. The questions I've been pondering is whether they knew what the shardpool would do, and whether regained a measure of their former glory as Elantrians simply by traveling to the CR, or if they stayed basically Hoed until Raoden figured out how to get the Dor flowing again. Any theories or WoB's on this?

Special Oathbringer Dust Jacket Giveaway

No, I'm saying he's fom Nalrhis. We have no idea of him before he was returned. We dont know how long he lived or for how long he was dead. It's probably not true, but he has some backstory to fill in, and since Nightblood is similar enough in investiture cost to an honorblade, it does make for a fun crackpot theoy.
-
So, is the Warbreaker a Herald? Nightbood uses a tremendous amount of breath and nothing is known of Vasher before he returned. He is came to Roshar to find Nightblood presumably, but did Nale take Nightblood to force him into coming back?

How the Vessels Killed and Shattered Adonalsium
Massik replied to Confused's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Shards.. ...crystal, no? To me it makes sense it would be a frequency related split. Imagine a perfect harmony with all of the vessels singing their part on the register. It creates a harmony shattering Adonalsium. The part of the harmony "sung" dictates the attribute the vessel is imbued with. Ok, so maybe not al of it. But with crystals involved, frequency seems highly viable for the shattering itself.- 13 replies

I may have to do a re-read of edgedancer, but I took it as they were simply wrong. I think fOr the KR, the spren abandoned the KR. Wss there a need for the KR to stay in tact after the last desolation? The whole point of the heralds was to train and lead a new group of KR at each desolation. Without the desolations, and heralds to be the brunt of Odium's rage, there is an imbalance. It's implied that the spren forsee Taln breaking, and odium being free to destroy Roshar. If this is true, the spren may have given up on humanity winning. And if there is any grai of truth to vorinism, they wouldn't abide by corrupted KR. Think Syl leaving Kal when he aboit breaks his oath. Think the Stormfather trying to forbid spren from bonding, and the spren going behind his back to do so, only when they know the true desolation is on the horizon.

http://coppermind.net/wiki/Last_Desolation The Aharietiam, where the Heralds quit, as 4500 years before the events of WoK, and no desolations happened after it. This is why Nale is killing potential Radiants; he thinks he can stop it, and deosn't believe another has actually come. The Recreance happened a few centuries later. Granted, no one knows why the KR quit, but I habe a feeling with no desolations and no heralds, they gave up. The KR were formed to fight in desolations. No desolations, no KR.

All but Taln, ya? How many times did they go to that place after dying, or winning, or both? How many millennia total were they in constant suffering? The others had talked about it and the lead Herald, Jezrien waited for Kalek, who was the last to show up to tell him what he the others had, regretfully, decided. They didn't just coincidentally give up, randomly, or seperately. They came to a concensus about it. Let's remember that it all starts with a POV from Kalek. His internal thoughts are known, and he just doesn't want to go back to a torturous damnation for another thousand years, only escaping such to fight again before repeating the cycle no matter the outcome of the desolation. Not only was it bound to happen, it is a (the) plot device that sets up the entire series. You can't have protagonists struggling to uncover the mysteries of an unknown ancient magic on their own if the Heralds are there to help all along and if the KR never dissolved. It's neccessary for the story.

Maybe... But it seems pretty clear that the heralds are set on not spending a vast amount time in (basically) hell, between desolations. That's what they seem to be abandoning. Without their patrons, the KR perhaps give up.

What of he wasn't an technically an edgedancer because he only spoke the first ideal? the points I made above are saying that specific spren go with a specific type of person. Sort of like horeshoes go on horses and regular shoes go on people. They're both shoes, but they only work with the hoof/foot they fit.
-
I'm not sure that there wouldn't be more than one egedancer spren out there. Remember, Jasnah jas had a spren for a looong time. It isn't necessarily a new thing for spren to be bonded. But, what's more, the KR have Orders, which implies more than one of any type, no? As for the appearance of Ym's spren. Some spren are able to change appearance. This is why I brought up Syl. She's been leaves, a light ribbon and a woman. We don't have enough time with Ym to see if his spren may have changed, or any mention of his spren explaining the form it chose. Additionally, if Wyndle was to bond Ym, it means he has a certain draw. Consider this. With the way Kal is, would another spren have bonded him? He is honorable. Shallan's lies and truths drew a cryptid. And Dalinar's charisma/need to unite drew 5he Stormfather. Who they are decides the type of spren they attract, so if Wyndle was almost bonded to Ym, doesnt that mean Ym has the traits compatible with an edgedancer?
-
Lift has spoken words. Webdon't know if Ym had. Syl looked like a windspren when Kal first notices her, but she evolves as she hangs with him.
-
Rennarin's father is Dalinar. Elhokar/Jasnah's dad was Galivar. I believe Jasnah met her spren before her dad was killed, too. Her shadow was acting strangely and all of that before Gavilar was killed.

Thinking on it. Raoden isn't broken at all when the Shaod takes him. Brandon has said something to the effect of him being a protagonist who doesn't have anything to overcome from his past. Sel, though has investiture that doesn't work like the forms on other planets (save maybe threnody and first of the sun). There's no consumable necessary to make it work. The broken-ness seems to be the planet itself, instead. Or at least between the cognitive amd physical realms. Good point on Awakening. Though, perhaps the brokeness there is a transfered break. Breaths come from other people. Essentially part lf their soul broken away from their being, maybe? That might be a stretch, I guess.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but isn't "broken-ness" a general pre-requisite for investiture in the Cosmere as a whole?
