Well. I think your need to use potty humor is a clear indication of your mental acuity. Never mind your failure to use an allusion to the cosmere. Undeniably, you're a storming pile of chull dung (and you smell like it too). I'd take your comments with a pinch of copper, but that wouldn't be enough to keep my mind from being blown by your colorless lack of wit.

Dragonphoenix, your name bespeaks of a fiery breath. I hope never to be present in the same room as you, considering your other end releases an equally fiery...breath.

Redemption impossibly far, A past foul and bloody haunts Dalinar. I'm no beta reader, So for news of this leader, Oathbringer must bring in the future. I lack poetic finesse, And limericks bring anxiety and stress. My attempt ended poorly, and I left feeling sorely, that like Kaladin my life is a mess.

Ok. Thanks for the clarification

So I get that aluminum is a sort of "Investiture sink," as the wiki put it. However, I was wondering how the exact mechanics of aluminum work. Can it only effect kinetic investiture, as opposed to passive? All the examples on the wiki...you know what I'll quote it below. Forgery[edit] Known as Ralkalest in the Rose Empire, aluminum cannot be altered at all via Forgery.[16] The cells for Forgers in the Rose Palace have ralkalest grates in their ceilings for entrance and a thin plate of ralkalest behind the stone walls.[16] Nalthis[edit] Aluminium cannot be Awakened. It is possible for aluminium to prevent someone from Returning, but it cannot be achieved with simple methods such as stabbing them.[8] Roshar[edit] Items can be Soulcast into Aluminum.[7] It is unknown if the Aluminum can then be soulcast into other Essences. Shardbladesare unable to cut aluminum.[17][18][nb 1]However, this is only through magical means. If the aluminum is thin enough a Shardblade may cut it purely by virtue of having a sharp edge. [19] Anyways, in all of these examples, it seems that aluminum is resistant to being effected by the magic system, and only interferes with investiture when it is being used actively. So could aluminum theoretically absorb passive Investiture? For example, if a ton of aluminum were dumped into the Well of Ascension, would it effect it at all, maybe even absorb the investiture? Also, if it did absorb investiture like this, would it simply disperse it, or store it somewhere special in the Cognitive or Spiritual realms? Uh...looking back on all my questions, seems like there probably aren't answers yet...but on the offside that there are... [click SUBMIT QUESTION].

God. Now I'm terrified to read Oathbringer.

So, I thought of a way to hack AonDor. I've read about theoretical AIs with self-improving software, and I started wondering if it could be possible to create self improving Aons. Maybe some combination of Aon Shao (Transform, Change), Aon Eshe (Gift, Endowment), and other modifiers could be used to create Aons or sequences of Aons that constantly change and expand to better accomplish some task. The instructions would probably have to be incredibly complex, like on the scale of supercomputers, but seeing as Aons already act like circuit boards (kind of) this could be technically possible. If Elantrians ever discovered how to do this efficiently, it could catapult their society to unprecedented levels of technology and magical capabilities. Seeing the endless opportunities self-improving Aons offer, they could even account for discovering ways to bypass the Dor in the cognitive realm and escaping Sel.

I love both stormlight and Mistborn, and asking me to choose a favorite is like asking me to choose a favorite child. At this point, I guess I'll have to go with Mistborn, just because we know more about its magic system. The Metallic Arts are the perfect example of Sanderson's hard magic system since we know the limits so well. Plus, I sometimes feel like the magic system in Rosario is op, but that's kind of the point, with all the investiture there. And we can't forget Wayne. His viewpoint chapters are hilarious.

Maybe this isn't the right place to post this, since it's not a theory, but I know of no where else to share it. I found an EPIC original composition based on Mistborn era 2 on YouTube. If you like music, plz watch it. If you like Mistborn, plz watch it. If you don't like Mistborn, then what are you doing on this thread? Anyways, a number of you have probably already seen this, but for those of you who haven't, prepare for awesomeness. Shout out to David Gruwier, the composer.

Why if it isn't my arch nemesis. Hello stick. How have you been? Are you having fun tormenting these poor sharders?
-
Fellow sharders! I call all of you to take arms and defend yourselves against the greatest threat yet faced in the cosmere. Stick. You have seen what he can do. He slowly takes control of various posts and even articles in the Coppermind, turning what was once a place of learning and theorizeing into a mindless series of jokes. If we do not stop him, nothing will. We must counter this threat before it takes control of the entire 17th shard. Know this, Stick. We're coming for you.

At times, I wonder of Sanderson knew how much debate would arise around the Kaladin-Shallan-Adolin love triangle. Sometimes, I feel like the same discussions were going around after Twilight book (ugh). Thank god we only have a few more months before this discussion is settled, hopefully. And then we can go back to my favorite couple; Wayne and Melaan (wink wink).

Sorry for pranking y'all. I just couldn't help myself. Hopefully, you didn't have your hopes up too much for a big reveal.

I now realize the true meaning behind the diagram, what Taravangian tried to tell his future self, but was unable to. In WoR, the text from both patterns of Floorboard 17: Paragraph 2 are provided. The first sample text was every other letter starting with the first, while the second sample text was ever other letter starting with the second. This is what they looked like. 1...AhbuttheywereleftbehindItisobviousfromthenatureofthebondbutwherewherewherewhereSetoffObviousRealizationlikeapricityTheyarewiththeShinWemustfindoneCanwemaketouseaTruthlessCanwecraftaweapon 2...TherehastobeananswerWhatistheanswerStopTheParshendiOneofthemYestheyarethemissingpiecePushfortheAlethitodestroythemoutrightbeforethisoneobtainstheirpowerItwillformabridge I then proceeded to combine the two patterns, showing what they originally would have looked like. Of course, I would too if I were locked inside my room all day without a bathroom.

I would like a huge chunk of lerasium, a chasmfiend, and 2 hemalurgic spikes the size of a tree. First, I'd hemalurgically spike the chasmfiend. Then I'd feed it half the lerasium, and eat the other half myself, so I could control it with Soothing. And whenever somebody tries to pull the "I am a stick" joke around me, I'll command my chamfiend allomancer to eat them.

Astronomical Effects on Shards and Magic Systems
ILuvHats replied to ILuvHats's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Is this theory dumb? I just want some feedback. -
And what are your suspicions, my dear man?

While I was reading Arcanum Unbounded, I was struck by the diagram of the Rosharan system. The astronomical layout of the system seemed to share many similarities to the magic systems of Roshar. I looked at other planets and found other similarities between the astronomical system and the magics. I'll outline my findings below. 1. Rosharan System This solar system appears to reflect the local magic system extremely accurately. The three inner, inhabitable planets reflect the 3 shards currently residing there. True, Honor and Cultivation arrived before Odium, so it appears that the system did not originally match the number of Shards residing there. However, there are only 2 planets in the system that are inhabitable by organic life (Ashlyn and Roshar), and Braize possibly only became inhabited by sentient splinters after Odium arrived (this is an assumption on my part). Also note that the 10 outer gas giants correlate to the 10 essences/jewels, the 10 Heralds and orders of Knights Radiant, and the 10 surgebindings. 2. Scadrian System Here, there are 2 planets (I'm ignoring the dwarf planets). And guess what? There are 2 Shards, Ruin and Preservation. Of course, they eventually created a 3rd inner planet, which was warm enough to be habitable. Yet, when they Invested and created magic systems, there came to be 3 metallic arts, correlating to the now 3 inner planets. Of course, The metallic arts are a base-16 magic system, relying on the 16 allomantic metals, and their is no parallel between this number and the astronomical bodies. Note, though, that Ruin and Preservation created Scadrial to be an ideal world, mimicking Yolen. Thus, they would have created a base-16 magic system, with 16 being a number of Shards, and thus being an "ideal" number. Perhaps by creating their own planet, the Shards gained greater control over how their Investiture was manifested, making it unaffected by the layout of the solar system. 3. The Selish System Again, we have a dishardic system. There are 2 inner planets (Sel and Donne), separated by an asteroid belt from 2 outer planets. The various magic systems on Sel don't seem to exhibit any correlations with the astonomical layout of the system. But, remember that Odium killed Devotion and Dominion and then Splintered them, causing the Dor to form. This probably messed with the magic system a lot, skewing any correlations between the magic and the number of planets. 4. The Taldain System Taldain is the only planet in the system, and Autonomy is the only Shard in the system. Little is yet known about sand mastery and if there is any other form of magic. But, it wouldn't surprise me if a Manifestation of Investiture were present on Darkside, meaning there would be one magic system for each of the 2 suns. 5. The Threnodite System We barely know anything about Threnody. Noticeably, there are 3 inner planets, just as there are 3 Simple Rules related to the Shades. This could simply be a coincidence, though. Overall, there appears to be some connection between the physical realm and the Shard's magic systems. Some of the evidence could simply be me looking for connections where there are none. Yet, the Rosharan system in particular provides strong evidence of a correlation. It seems that the number of inner/habitable planets could attract a certain number of shards, as both Sel and Scadrial are dishardic worlds in systems with 2 inner planets. It also appears that the number of astronomical bodies in some systems effect the magic systems developed by the Shards. This correlation between the manifestations of investiture and the nature of the physical realm could reflect the nature of the Shards themselves. Although the Vessel's bodies were disentegrated when they Ascended, perhaps their minds continued to view the world on physical terms. Though a Vessel becomes realmatically aware of all 3 realms, they were formerly human; there minds are hard-wired to process physical phenomena. Thus, it is possible that the Shards became influenced by the physical nature of their evironment. The astronomical layout of their location limited the ways they can manifest their investiture.

Fullborn VS. The Everstorm Bringers
ILuvHats replied to The Technovore's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I have a solution to stop the Everstorm. The Lord Ruler fills his iron minds for several centuries. Then he world hops to Roshar. He hacks feruchemy using hemalurgical spikes, allowing his iron minds to not only affect his weight, but also his gravitational field. He empties his metal minds all at once and becomes a black hole. Bye bye Everstorm. Bye bye Roshar. Bye bye Odium. And Silverlight rules the dwarf galaxy in piece and harmony until everything's consumed by the ever growing void. -
Deliberate triple posting is not welcome. Please stop. I have merged your 3 posts into one. Next time you might get a warning. Why is triple posting bad?

I just realized these are being discussed in a lot of other posts after perusing more posts. Just a disclaimer. I'm not trying to steal ideas. I thought of these by myself, but these theories are similar to what other people are talking about, in regards to Adolin/Shallan, and Veil/Brightness Davar. Not too original, am I, huh? Oh well.
-
Wow. Lightweaver twice in a row. The second time, I even chose different answers for all the questions I was having doubts about. The test seems pretty accurate, though the first question could be made a little clearer. How am I flexible? Is my ideology flexible? Or maybe my personality?

Recently, I've been wondering what Shallan's third truth, especially after seeing Agewalkers theory about Kaladin saving Roshone. I'll put it below. Anyways, Shallan's admitted to killing both her father and her mother so far. Her next truth will have to be one of similar tension, and I have a couple of theories to share. 1. Shallan chooses between Adolin and Kaladin. Most people concur that Shallan has better chemistry with Adolin than with Kaladin. However, Sanderson makes it clear in WoR that Shallan could have a thing for Kaladin, and since they are one of the few Knights Radiant currently based in Urithiru, they will most likely be working together a considerable amount of time. So, it's possible that Shallan will have to admit to herself who she is going to be with romantically as her 3rd truth. True, this sounds a bit cliche, almost like Twilight. If anyone could pull this something like this off, though, it'll be Sanderson. 2. Shallan's role in Ghostblood Shallan doesn't seem very fond of Ghostblood at the end or WoR, especially after realizing both her father and Helaran died participating in this organization. However, Shallan is certain to become increasingly involved with Ghostbloods, and will probably begin using her persona as Veil more and more often. Based on the excitement she exhibits carrying out missions as Veil, Shallan could easily become confused as to who she really is, as her personality as Veil starts conflicting with her personality as Shallan the Radiant. So, perhaps she will have to realize a truth about who she really is, as either Veil or Shallan, in Oathbringer. These are the best theories I can think of. If you have other theories, please list them. Oh yeah, and here's the thread to Agewalkers post about Kaladin saving Roshone.

Ah. You're right of course. I was a bit hasty putting this together, since Id thought it seemed reasonable. Curse my inability to realize my logical fallacies. Jasnah would be disappointed

So, why did Kelsier travel all the way to South Scadrial? Was it really only for the purpose of saving the South Scadrians? I mean, come on. This is Kelsier we're talking about. He's not exactly the most selfless person. True, he also taxed the South Scadrians and used them to hide the bands of mourning. But, I think Kelsier had an even deeper for going to South Scadrial. Harmonium. One of the most defining facts about South Scadrial is that it is the only place to get ettmetal from. Consider that Kelsier aka the Sovereign appeared there merely 10 years after the Catacendre. It must have been vital for him to head there. My theory is that the spike in his eye is made of ettmetal, or at least an alloy of it. Harmonium can apparently replicate any allomantic ability, and possibly other effects related to Investiture. So might it not be able to replicate a conscience existing in the cognitive, and recreate it in the physical, allowing Kelsier to return? Maybe an alloy of ettmetal and duralumin (for Connection) was used as the specific alloy enabling the ability to reconnect a cognitive shadow to the physical. I don't know really know. But simply using a duralumin spike doesn't seem to me like it would be able accomplish such a feat even with vast knowledge of binding points. I think a God metal is necessary to reincarnate a cognitive shadow. Personally it seems too much of a coincidence that Kelsier took such a great interest in South Scadrial, and so shortly after the Catacendre. We don't know if he physically traveled there, or used some sycophant to obtain harmonium and spike it through his body. I'm in favor of the latter, that he wasn't able to come back until he'd sent somebody to South Scadrial, acquire ettmetal, and use it hemalurgically. Also, I'm assuming he actually had a body to spike, possibly involving a Kandra or mistwraith using his bones to reform his body. But this seems like a plausible theory to me.
