  1. I’m on mobile right now, so I think that’s why I can’t edit the document myself. But off the top of my head, we’re missing Hessi’s Mythica and Ellista’s romance books.
  2. I don’t think Hoid is talking about the Lightweaver oaths/truths. Whenever you lightweave you create a lie. An illusion is nothing more than an elaborate deception intended to be believable. So I don’t think the fact that Hoid references “the nature of lies” means he can’t be referencing Yolish lightweaving since lightweaving in any form is intrinsically related to lying.
  3. So sorry about that! It’s been a helluva few days. (dies inside a little)
  4. I haven't finished it yet, but so far so good. The fight scene at the end of the first episode was SO good. The new villain doesn't seem quite as compelling or despicable (but in a good way) as Rawlins, but he's still decent. And I'm really intrigued by how Jigsaw is going to turn out.
  5. It's ok, Ammanas . I forgive you. Besides, I always welcome new book recommendations. I was going to start Brent Week's Night Angel trilogy last night, but then I got distracted when I saw Season 2 of the Punisher came out on Netflix, so I'm starting it today. But I'll add your books to my list as well.
  6. Ha. Same here. I almost opened them, but then realized, “Whoa, wait there one gosh darn diddly minute! You’re not in Cosmere Discussion anymore!”
  7. Yeah, I knew Steeldancer and StrikerEZ were younger. I didn't know about Kidpen though.
  8. Welcome! Who's you're favorite character in Mistborn era 1? Is it TUBA certified though?
  9. Got it. So it’s like your opinion of him dwindled the more you read him. So kind of like me and Shallan in OB (I’m sure THATS an unpopular opinion cough cough sarcasm)
  10. I love it when I have no idea what people are talking about, and just see their comments above the spoilers .
  11. I’m not going to try to change your mind, but how on earth did you get through WoK? Sure there are other POVs, but Kaladin was after all the focus character. And even though I personally loved him in it, I thought his flashbacks were kind of slow despite the eventual payoff, so I can’t imagine what you thought of them. So what kept drawing you back to reading it that was strong enough to overcome your dislike of the lead character? I’m trying to understand, because for me, if I can’t stand a main character, even if there are other major POVs, I imagine I’d drop the book. Especially if it’s a 1000 page behometh and is only the first book in a series.
  12. Oh! Sorry mate. I got confused when you said you had the perfect idea, and then tagged me. I thought you had a recommendation for the thread. But yes, Monday is the deadline for the first reading.
  13. That sounds good. I was too lazy to look up when New Spring was published, but reading them in the order they came out makes sense.
  14. Idk how it took me so long to see this thread. But yeah, I’m 19. Started with Rithmatist when I was 12 and was like “Oh, is there another book in this series? Nope? Oh well, moving on to the next author.” 2 years later, I encountered Steelheart without realizing it was the same author, and from there I got into the cosmere. Also, I love seeing people post their actual ages. I have a weird tendency to imagine that the more posts you have, the older you are. So for example, @Toaster Retribution, discovering that you’re the same age as me was mind blowing .
  15. Of course. People can join the discussion whenever. Also, since you’ve already finished WoT, feel free to just talk about what you remember instead of reading along. I was not aware this was a thing! Thanks for bringing it up. I think we should read it last after AMOL, though. There’s pros and cons to reading a prequel. If you read it first, it makes more sense chronologically. But if you read it last, I feel like you get more value since you’re more invested in the characters, and also there might be slight spoilers if Moirane and Lan have hidden parts of there past. Plus, I don’t have the book in addition to others probably, so we’ll have to postpone the first deadline so we can have time to get out hands on it.
  16. Ok, I finally got around to editing the opening post and listing the schedule. Took longer than I thought, though. I got really precise with trying to make sure each week had an equal amount of material, so I had my calculator out. And then I realized that for some of the books, the prologues were listed with latin number pages, so I had to redo the math and redivide the chapters (if you can't tell, I can get pretty meticulous). But I think we're all good now.
  17. Yeah, that's why I'm glad this thread exists. You can post whatever you want.
  18. You’re right to think the investiture can’t be destroyed, but it can be recycled, so not all of the investiture Nightblood consumes is necessarily increasing his investiture content. Some of it could be sent back into the cognitive realm, or something. But you’re also right to think what he consumes at least partially adds to his power, since this is the most likely explanation for Nightblood becoming more invested over time. We don’t know exactly what Nightblood does with the investiture though.
  19. Yeah. Martin Luther King day is an American thing. So if you’re not American...
  20. Oh yeah. I should have clarified. I meant we should do approximately 240 pages rounding to the nearest chapter. I was just confused because you mentioned 3-7 chapters without a time frame. I’ll edit the top post to show a schedule for the first 3 books tonight. Next Monday is the first deadline. Even though there’s less than a week till then, I think everybody should be okay, especially since I’m guessing a lot of people will have a 3 day weekend with next Monday being MLK day. Let’s get to reading!
  21. I wouldn’t exactly call myself a connoisseur of webcomics, but I’ve dallied in them a bit, and I’m looking for a new one to obsess over. So far I’ve read Xkcd, Girl Genius, Schlock Mercenary, Order of the Stick, and Twokinds. I’d prefer a series with a plot instead of narratively unconnected strips, but I’m down for anything as long as it’s good. Any recommendations?
  22. Do you mean 3-7 chapters per week? Thats pretty slow. We can do a quarter of a book per week, so about 175 pages. At that rate it’d take us a little under a year.
  23. I think Quantus' argument still stands though. You'd need a weird set of events to get a group of people who aren't aware of the cognitive realm to colonize a planet. Think about it. The only reason that knowledge of shadesmar is esoteric is because long distance communication isn't developed on most shard worlds and a lot of world hoppers, like members of the 17th shard and Silverlight scholars, aren't interested in spreading knowledge about the cognitive realm. Once you have telephones/telegraphs, or in Roshar's case Spanreeds, it only takes a few people until the entire world is aware of the existence of another realm. How long do you think it'll take for Roshar to become predominantly aware of realmatics now that world leaders like Dalinar and Co. know about it? Obviously its not really a high priority since they're in the middle of a war, but assuming Roshar survives, scholars who are closely associated with the knights radiant will know what the cognitive realm is, and they'll want to discuss it with the peers. So over a course of a few generations, this knowledge will disseminate. For shardworlds without easy access to the cognitive realm like on Roshar (with Transportation), complete exploration of the world is only a matter of time once flight is developed, and then the shard pool will be discovered, and the same scenario occurs as described above. Also, the WoB you mentioned does state the the cognitive realm is flat, but this doesn't eliminate the possibility that it could hypothetically be spherical. It just means that in every case it happens to be flat because the alternative is so improbable. Also, @hoiditthroughthegrapevine, you should definitely ask questions about the Hemalurgy table if you haven't considered it already. There's the potential for some realmatically juicy questions, like what the heck is destiny?! Though maybe its just somebody who doesn't know the technical word for Fortune and is trying to describe it. It'd be good to know either way though.
