This makes me think of the Daniel Greene youtube vid and and the panel where Rothfuss recounts a story about telling Brandon at dinner to "quit writing so fast".: -

Nightblood does "leak" investiture. Leak probably isn't the correct term, it's more like consumes, the way a returned consumes 1 breath per week. It will be hungry again before too long.

TLDR: Honour's death/splintering means a spren will become a Deadeye if a broken oath ends their nahel bond I'm firmly convinced Brandon was referring to Seons during the live stream. Specifically the Seons bonded to humans taken by the Shaod post Reod prior to the restoration of Elantris. What we know: Seons are spiritually bonded to their humans similar to the nahel bond of radiant spren. These Seons appear to have lost their sense of self, identity an ability to communicate, just like Deadeye spren A singular event (the Shaod) marks a transformation in an Elantrian's connection to the Dor (their source of magic), Sub Recreance, Radiants, Surgebinding On close inspection the Aon at the center of the these Zombie Seons displays similar characteristics to fallen Elantrians Honour wasn't around to council the Radiants at the time of the Recreance (Stormfather tells Dalinar in OB) The Recreance occured shortly after the capture of Ba-Ado-Mishram There were no Deadeyes prior to the Recreance (WOB and WOB) What I think we can reasonably conclude: When Radiants brake their bond to a spren their spirit web undergoes a transformation on the same scale/similar to the Shaod (maybe in reverse? losing connection to Honour/Cultivation's power instead of gaining access to the Dor) Prior to the Recreance when a Radiant broke their bond, the Spren wasn't killed, they just returned to the Cognitive realm, similar to if the Knight had died When the Knights and their Spren decided on the Recreance as the only way forward, they couldn't have predicted the creation of Deadeyes As with the Reod for the Shaod, another singular event distorted or corrupted the transition process by which a radiant spren transitioned back to the cognitive after intentionally braking their nahel bond Outstanding Questions and my theories: Q - What was the Rosharan Reod that means that an intentional breaking of a nahel bond will create a deadeye? A - While the WOB's very strongly point to the Recreance being the exact time that deadeyes first occurred and where even possible, I think this is deliberate misdirection from Brandon. While it is unclear when exactly Honour was splinted I think it was before the capture of BAM. The capture of BAM is closely tied to the final decision by 9 orders to undertake the Recreance. When the Reod fundamentally changed the geography of Arelon, Elantrian's connection to the Dor was disrupted. Perhaps prior to being unmade BAM was the spren of Roshar itself, but even if that were true, why would she still easy the transition of radiant spren back to the cognitive after being unmade? It must have been that Honour was actively (or directly powering some process) doing something to facilitate the breaking of nahel bonds. With Honour dead the nahel bond isn't broken cleanly and the transition of spren back to the cognitive no longer goes smoothly and gets stuck as deadeyes. Q - Did the Radiants in the Recreance suffer ill effects like their spren did? It needn't have been immediate, but as Elantrians not just their Seons had the Shaod disrupted by the Reod, perhaps the Radiants had issues like their deadeyes? A - While I like this idea, and think it should have been likely considering the Elantrian blueprint. Also given that long living and memoried Spren culture know exactly what happened their Recreance casualties, it makes sense that humans have forgotten. Maybe the legands of the Fallen Radiants is more than just about them stopping the fight considering the parshmen were nutralized. Maybe the "Fallen" moniker came from the horrible side effects. Alas, as Shallan is a living example of a Radiant with a deadeye, it seems like she hasn't suffered any supernatural trauma, so I guess the Radiants were fine.

Has to be R'Re pronounced RiRi like Rihanna....

Well the idea would be that Brandon creates the outline, the ghost writer tires to emulate Brandon's style, and Brandon does the revisions and polishing to achieve quality

Anyone know how ghost writing works? You know some athlete or movie star gets someone to write their autobiography for them? Can Brandon use ghost writers to farm out some of the grunt writing =)

I agree with your sentiment, but you have to have faith in Brandon. He needs a break from the Cosmere, so that's what this will be. We honestly can't complain at all, the rate of cosmere is prolific and the up front communication we receive is a joy! I love the Cosmere, but the annual State of the Sanderson is what makes Brandon my favourite author. What I noticed is that it seems like Elantris2 and NightBlood will have to be pushed into the mix with the second half of Stormlight, not in between book 5 and 6 as we had hoped. If I was to guess the absolute soonest we can expect these would be one between book 7 and 8, and the other between 8 and 9. I believe we'll be due for a cosmere break between book 6 and 7 of Stormlight. Otherwise it would be SA5 -> 3x Mistborn Era 3 (with maybe a YA mixed in) -> SA6 -> Cosmere Sequel -> SA7. That would be Spring of 2022 to roughly 2030 of straight Cosmere, which is highly unlikely.

Does anyone know when the artwork will be available to view for those of us who bought the audiobook?

Way of Kings Leatherbound Kickstarter is Tomorrow, and Another Lost Metal Tidbit

Just watched the kickstarter video (8 hrs after I placed my order =) . I am concerned, is Brandon okay? He was very animated with his right hand, but seemed to keep his left hand in his pocket the whole time. Was this just an (non gender biased) easter egg reference to hiding his safe hand? Is he left handed and it has fallen off from all the signing? I'm hoping for safe hand, -

Thanks @Mist and @Chaos, I thought as much, but is nice to hear it from others too. I am torn, I'm not usually one to wait for things, but the personalizations are nice..... -

Does anyone know more about numbered editions in the top tier. Since it's limited to 975 backers I'm assuming 1-25 are reserved for Brandon's family and other VIP's. But what does "Signed & Numbered (random)" mean? Could I potentially get Book #82917? I sign-on right as the kick starter opens will I get a lower number? or is this where the "randomness" kicks in? Also does anyone know if random quotes are ever coming back to the other leather bounds? are they just on hold during this busy period in the lead up to RoW and tWoK leather? -
Regarding the Oathpact all we know for sure is that Ishar came up with an idea that granted him and his friends immortality with the chance of torture. There's a lot we don't know about many of the Heralds. Maybe Pailiah is a known slow poke, maybe Kalak really was a coward, maybe Battar sucks at hiding. Maybe Ishar always broke immediately after getting caught so he was never really tortured. We know that at first there were long gaps between desolations, but maybe Ishar just avoided capture in the beginning. Also I think you're being very generous calling this a decent theory. =)
-
TLDR: Ishar has always been nuts and Nale is right he survived with his mind just as it has always been. For some reason Nale and Ash both think that Ishar is the only one of them that has not gone insane. Nale even tells Szeth at the end of OB that "Only Ishar survived <the torture> with his mind intact". Everyone assumes the Heralds are just misguided and blindly trusting one of their leading thinkers and scholars. But what if they are not wrong? What if they've been right all along and Ishar has survived with mind intact? What if Ishar has always been a megalomaniacal psychopathic bastard?! It was his idea to ditch Taln. It was his idea to put rules on the Radiants, but maybe it was out of jealousy of their growing power displacing him as a deity. With the destruction of Ashyn they knew very well the dangers of surgebinding. What took them several Desolations to realize precautions were required, if that was in fact the reasoning for formalizing the Orders. Look at the endpage art of him Any takers on this nonsense? =) Just trying to shake things up with a different angle.

I always assumed she *COULD* breathe in stormlight just didn't because she never learned how, and just fell back on the food. Probably she started doing it unconsciously when she was younger and just did it now because she is so accustom to it. Turns out we have a WOB that she can not breathe in stormlight at all: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/32/#e8073

Sorry this is so delayed, I don't really check this part of the forum, and sorry if this is no longer interesting to you. I believe your problem is that the line your interpreter is complaining about is in the class scope, not inside any of the defined functions. This code gets run when the .py file (module) is loaded/launched. At that point there is no instance of the programGUI class and therefore nothing for self to point at and in fact no such thing as self has been defined. I'm not 100% on this as I'm mainly a C++ guy, but I'm fairly certain this is how the python interpreter works.
