  1. So the question is why people who know Honor is dead would ALSO want Jasnah dead, I suppose... but that's another thread I think
  2. Wait, what? Scaldrial has no moon? So... no tides, presumbly? How does that affect weather patterns?
  3. I'd be inclined to believe that if it weren't glowing all evil like. However, that's an interesting idea... and if the Parshendi are Voidbringers, might explain where he got it. Sounds like another thread though.
  4. Do you think the Ardentia already knows about Honor being dead? They seem to know something about Dalinar, or be interested in him for some reason... and it seems to be a somewhat favorable one, given that one ardent's comments to him during the feast. I find it hard to believe in the thousands (?) of years since Honor's death, Dalinar is the only one to experience these visions. IF he isn't, then someone else knew at somepoint that Honor is dead, and I can't imagine they kept it quiet. If they spoke up at all, then the ardents probably know about the visions, the symptoms... and might be either preparing to help Dalinar out of fear of the Everstorm, or stop him so that their power isn't threatened.
  5. It seems likely if you change the alloy of the metalmind, you probably lose access to what's inside the metal. It wouldn't be that the charge is gone, but more like if someone changes their phone number, I guess. The person is still there, but you can't access them because the route you used to do so is no longer good.
  6. Which might actually end up being a benefit if you, for example, fuse a Zane with some of Sazed's personality aspects, for example. Would that stabilize or destabilize his personality, I wonder?
  7. This brings up a secondary question. Is there an upper limit on how many spheres you can charge in one highstorm? If there isn't, does that mean that they are effectively unlimited in power? And if there is, what would that mean?
  8. Isn't there an aquatic greatshell described by Sigzil to Kaladin? The eyes of blue and red quote?
  9. Actually, that brings up a point I don't think anyone's mentioned. If the storms are dying, that means no more crem. And no more crem would have a greater impact on Roshar than no more stormlight. Without crem you wouldn't be able to grow any food at all. Could that be Odium's plan? It's a much easier way to kill a continent worth of people than sending monsters to kill them one at a time.
  10. It'd be interesting to see what would happen if a Twinborn Compounder got spiked for their Feruchemical ability and then burned the spike Allomantically.
  11. So I was re-reading the annotations for Mistborn recently. Sazed's speech about how the Lord Ruler pulled off most his tricks struck me this time for some reason. After some thought, I realized it was because of the third metal magic that stores things in the metal, namely Hemalurgy. So the question is this. If you took a Hemalurgical spike, a small one like Vin's earring, and managed to swallow it... could you burn it? What would happen? My theory, admittedly baseless, is that you would gain the power at possibly Vin-drawing-on-mists level for Allomancy... no idea what it would do for Feruchemy.
  12. To Tel: Nohadon could presumably be talking about people who own Soulcasters, independent of the nahel bond. For example, I doubt all the ardentia have truthspren, but they still Soulcast.
  13. ... Odd thought. Do we have evidence that "The Broken One" is Odium? Three Shards on Roshar. Honor is splintered, Cultivation is a no-show so far... is it possible the third Shard is the one behind the extreme conditions on Roshar? The reason I ask is that the mind of a Shard is apparently the weakest part, as evidenced in the conflict between Ruin and Preservation. If Odium discovered a way to simply break the mind of a Shardholder... wouldn't that eliminate it as a threat without creating the possibility of someone else taking up that Shard?
  14. Which probably doesn't end well for either of them, if it does happen. However they will almost definitely interact to start piecing together the KR connections.
  15. So here's an interesting question... how are spren arguing? Syl says that all spren are, essentially, the same individual. Are they all crazy? Also, I like the idea of Szeth's stone being a fabrial. That sort of indicates though that you'd be able to take his abilities away by destroying the stone.
  16. ... Anyone else fearing a possible Shallan/Kaladin romance? They aren't far apart in age...
  17. It'd be neat if Sazed is storing power in the Elendel valley. High metal content could mean that he is literally storing up power in the valley itself, which is why it's so fertile.
  18. I'd be curious as to what this would actually do. Let's assume there is reverse Compounding, using Feruchemy to give you more potent Allomantic metals. Would this give you duralanium-level powers without the flaring and loss of your metals? Or would it just give you a flared version? What, really, is the upper limit on something like a Steelpush? How about a Riot? Or a speed bubble? Random other thought: what does duralanium-enhanced gold do?
  19. ... What if it's the Dawnshard? I don't remember where that quote happens in the book, what happens in the chapter afterwards, but... crazy magic thing that has the potential to "bind all creatures, voidish or mortals?" And Shards seem to be unusable by other people without their wielder's consent... if Hoid has the Dawnshard, he could be keeping it in the Cognitive realm, and as it would be tuned to him it would be "safe as his skin".
  20. Interesting idea. Smacks a little bit of obligator intrigue, which makes me question if Brandon would do it again. Then again, the ardentia are mentioned too much to not be up to something. However, we can assume the Ghostbloods are more interested in Jasnah because of her current research... which begs the question of how they know what it entails, and WHY they are interested in it. Killing Jasnah to hide her research, at this point in the game, seems like it would ensure that it gets out. So why kill Jasnah at all, unless she's close to figuring out something the ardentia don't want her to know? Maybe the ardentia know something about how the Voidbringers became parshmen. Maybe they are actually responsible for it. Actually now that I mention it, it seems like the only group to have continuous records from the last Epoch would be either the Knights Radiant... or Vorinism.
  21. Hello all. Been away for awhile, and finally got a chance to reread every Cosmere book in a go. When I did, I noticed something odd. Hemalurgy seems to be the only magic system that does not have a genetic component. To break it down: Allomancy: Straight genetic. You can either do it or you can't. Consuming Lerasium seems to rewrite not just spiritual DNA but actual DNA, since you are able to pass it along to your children. Feruchemy: Same dice as Allomancy, but with added there is no way (currently) to gain Feruchemy besides Hemalurgy or being a Terrisperson. Awakening: Awakening requires Breath, which seems to be a genetic endowment from all people on Nalthis. People on other Shardworlds either aren't born with Breath (and since no one else seems to notice they are being watched, I'm guessing this), or their Breath is way different from the people of Nalthis. Either way, seems odd. AonDor: To be an Elantrin, it seems you have to have a specific lineage, living within a certain distance of Elantris. They comment on the fact that the priest (can't recall his name right now), is so far out of the norm for someone to be an Elantrin that it causes considerable comment. Surgebinding: This is the other one that is kinda iffy. The only Surgebinders we know for sure are Shallan, Jasnah, Szeth, and Kaladin. Dalinar, Elkohar, Shallan's father, and Tien are all possible Surgebinders. I'm kind of assuming a genetic component here... but let's assume there is for now. Now, looking at all these magic systems, I can only think of one thing Hemalurgy has that's different than them... and that's the intent of the Shard powering it. All these other magic systems are, presumbly, powered by more positive intent Shards. Devotion, Preservation, Endowment, etc etc... all relatively benign. However, Ruin is not only a destructive force, but apparently a malevolent one. It warps Ati from a fairly decent human being into the Ruin we encounter in Mistborn. Odium is apparently quite evil. Is it possible that those Shards with negative intents create magic systems that are not inborn into a populace, but have to be learned and feed off of more positive aspect Shards? This actually seems to fit in line with a more negative intent, as it leaves their own power largely untouched, whereas all these magic systems presumably lower the overall power available to a Shard that is powering them.
  22. I did say about measuring it... but if all spren are the same individual (per Syl) there is probably a way to measure one spren so that they are all bound by the same effect.
  23. This is interesting! I never thought of it before, but someone had a theory that Nohadon changed how spren operate, thus making the Nahel bond tied to the KR ideals. Is it possible that all he had to do was write something down? Measure something, write it down, and change the very nature of the Nahel bond?
  24. Granted, and until we see how they would be formed I'm willing to suspend disbelief. However... why did nothing of any of these creatures survive as folklore? Voidbringers did, somewhat, but not creatures tied directly to something that has is a huge part of everyday life? The Soulcasting essences are used regularly... if there were a negative aspect that had been harnessed by Desolations, wouldn't some kind of warning be passed down?
  25. Wait a second... I've never seen that quote before. Is it possible that the Ten Heralds and the Ten Fools are the same people? After all, the Heralds did abandon the Oathpact, thinking it would still hold... if someone knew about that, it could have entered folklore as the Ten Fools.
