  1. "Books before friends 17th Shard before the real world Release dates before birthdays I will read that which has not been read I will stay silent amongst many words I will enjoy without being upvoted"
  2. @Hood I've never seen the Barking Dog experiment before! That's super cool, I'm gonna show my professor Have you ever seen aluminium foil burned in bromine? One of my professors likes demonstrating it in his labs - the first time I saw it, it melted the bottom of the beaker it was in. Luminol + hydrogen peroxide is really cool too; a friend of mine has been working out how to take it on a science roadshow thingy we do.
  3. I played keyboard in a band at high school for a while (we weren't very good). My friends thought this was really funny:
  4. You know it!! Nah, they don't let us play with the good stuff yet, so if we make stuff go bang we're probably doing it wrong. We do manage to get our hands on dry ice to make bottle rockets every now and then though Psyc is a bit of an odd one at the best of times, but I've just spent the last few days wading through neuroscience articles for research, so I'm feeling the science.
  5. Eh, up to you. I've heard some rumours though... I wouldn't trust them, myself.
  6. Welcome! Enjoy your stay! Don't eat the cookies!
  7. The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender is a lovely title. Also Broken Soup, and The Knife of Never Letting Go, and The Night Circus, although the latter may just be due to the wonderful imagery from the book that the name always brings to mind.
  8. The newly appointed Assassin in Begonia dons her robes with reverence. "My thanks. How may I be of assistance?"
  9. I listen to pretty much anything, but I need quiet/chill stuff when I'm studying. Spotify suggested Billie Marten to me recently, whom I've been quite enjoying. Edit: @StormyQueen omg I just listened to that song, that made my evening!
  10. My high school music teacher had this stuck up in her room for a while: Also, this guy is quite funny:
  11. Defending the Shard against cookies seems a noble cause. May I be permitted acceptance? I'm quite partial to the colour indigo.
  12. *shuffles feet awkwardly* ...I don't suppose you're looking for any more members?
  13. A whole thread on maths and science? I'm getting excited! I'm doing 2nd year chemistry and psyc at university (I'll fight anyone who says psyc isn't a real science)
  14. That's how I read it too, it makes more sense. I was just reaching a bit. Interesting about the Parshendi, cheers for that
  15. Maybe that has something to do with why Pattern thinks Shallan will kill him?
  16. How do you tell the difference between a chemist and a plumber? Ask them to say unionized. Why do chemists like nitrates so much? They're cheaper than day rates. I asked the guy sitting next to me if he had any sodium hypobromite... He said NaBrO
  17. I haven't done much other than lurk on the forum thus far, but for once I'm only a few days late to the party rather than months/years... Eshonai was my immediate thought as well. A problem I see with that though - correct me if I'm wrong, but it's implied that the champion is bonded to Odium/a voidspren? Can Parshendi form a Nahel bond? I don't actually think it'll be Adolin, but I can see a certain logic behind it. It would certainly be dramatic, if a tad cliche. Besides, Adolin has far too much honour for that, imo. Moash I could believe - like an antithesis to Kaladin; what Kaladin could have been had he made his choices differently.
  18. I'm probably a tad late to the party, but never mind. Hand-wavy explanations seem to be fairly standard of a lot of super powers/fantasy powers - think the Flash, but also Quicksilver from the X-Men. The thing with Quicksilver though is he's described as processing the world faster; he sees everything in slow motion, whereas Barry Allen just has the ability to move fast. Which essentially just boils down to details and semantics. But say you applied that to a steelrunner - when tapping steel, they move through time differently, rather than just moving fast - would you be able to argue that physics may not apply to them completely normally? I don't know, it made more sense in my head, before I actually thought through it fully.
  19. What do you call a snobbish criminal going down the stairs? A condescending con descending. What's the difference between a dirty bus stop and a lobster with breast implants? One's a crusty bus station and the other's a busty crustacean.
  20. Noted. No cookies for me.
  21. Hey guys! Been lurking here for a while, so I thought I should make an account. I read the Stormlight Archives recently, at the recommendation of a teacher. Working my way through Mistborn now - started Hero of Ages a couple days ago. Got a copy of Elantris with gift money, too. I don't have too much time to read though, unfortunately, since I'm studying, so I'll continue to gradually puddle my way through the Cosmere...
